    “They pet my hair again, and then firmly grab it, forcing my face to look up to them. I let out a sharp sound in response, and they repeat themselves. ‘Puppies don’t talk. What does puppy say?’

    I give a short, yipping bark, and feel my face heat up in embarrassment.

    ‘Good boy,’ they let go of my hair with a smile, and step past me to sit in the chair I had already pulled out for them. ‘Come now,’ they wave me over to the seat next to them. ‘Sit.’ I can hear the firm, commanding tone in their voice, and it cuts off the protest in my head. I wasn’t expecting to actually wear the collar right now, but with it locked on me, I don’t have much of a choice.”
