Work Text:
The moon hung up in the center of the dark sky, stars twinkling around it. A peaceful breeze was in the air, blowing through the trees. It was midnight, the apartment streets mellow and empty due to the time. No one in sight.
Yet, crouched down on top of a tall building in the distance, there was a pair of golden eyes scanning one apartment from a distance. The lights were still off in the window of the apartment room he was watching. Pulling his phone from his pocket, he saw his unread messages, followed by a low frustrated growl.
He knows she’s busy often since she’s a hunter, yet he can’t help but miss her. They haven’t seen each other in days and he was hoping to see her again tonight.
With another huff, he shoved his phone back into the pockets of his pants. Without thinking twice, he jumped into the top of the building beside him.
He ran and jumped from building to building, feeling the wind against his burgundy hair until he reached her apartment. With a final landing, he made it to the balcony.
Upon seeing the sliding doors slightly open, a winning smirk appeared on his lips in satisfaction. He opened the door and walked in confidently. Despite it being dark, he made his way swiftly over to where the light switch was. He’s been invited over many times to have every inch of her apartment memorized.
There was no harm in waiting inside for her. He took a seat comfortably on her couch. But as the minutes passed, he became antsy. He clicked his tongue and rested his left leg over his right one. His foot started bouncing impatiently. What was taking her long?
He began missing her more. He missed everything. Her smile. Her warmth. Her scent.
He frowned at that. He hasn’t breathed in her scent in a long time.
Eyes glancing over to the pillows beside him, an idea came to his head. He grabbed it, brought it to his face and breathed in satisfaction, immediately relaxing a bit. Her scent lingered on the pillows.
He couldn’t help but rub his face over it, taking in every trace of scent on it.
Finally approaching at the door of her apartment, the hunter gave a sigh of relief as she opened the door, happy to be in the comfort of her home. As she entered and turned around to lock the door, she froze in place when she heard movement behind her.
One arm was occupied carrying a bag of groceries. Swiftly, she reached to her side and grabbed her gun. Quickly turning around, she pulled the trigger.
Before she could blink, Valko raised his hand up from the couch, stopping the bullet right in front of his face.
He sent her a teasing smirk. “Nice aim.”
He clenched his hand into a fist and she watched the bullet break into pieces in the air, falling to the floor.
She released a relieved yet frustrated sigh, placing her gun back to her side. “Valko, you can’t just come into my apartment like this uninvited—” Her anger disappeared into a confused expression upon seeing her pillow in his hands, fingers clutching on tight to it. “What are you doing with my pillow?” she asked as she placed her bag of groceries on the island in her kitchen.
“Nothing.”
A small giggle left her lips at his response, not believing him. She could hear him move behind her, her back facing him. She began taking the groceries out of the bag and onto the table, hearing his footsteps approach her.
Then she felt his arms wrap around her, placing his face into her neck before taking a deep breath in. “I just missed you.”
A chuckle left her once more. “I missed you too.”
She could feel him smile against her neck. Then he lifted his head up slightly to rest his chin on her shoulder. “Why didn’t you answer my texts?”
Reaching into her pocket, she presented her phone to him. “It died. I got off work late and decided to stop by the store for some groceries and ingredients. I was planning on baking something.”
“Baking? Right now?” he whined, nuzzling his face into her shoulder. “We should be cuddling instead.”
She couldn’t help but smile at his reaction. “That definitely sounds great but I’m in the mood for some cupcakes to lift my mood. I had a rough mission today.”
That instantly made his head snap up to her. “What happened? Are you ok?”
“I’m fine. Some missions are harder than others. I want to relax and enjoy some homemade cupcakes. But we can cuddle after.” She teasingly booped his nose. “Now let me put the groceries away and get started.”
“I got it.” Valko removed his grasp and grabbed some groceries off the table. He placed them into the fridge, stating, “And I can help out with the baking.”
“I’m glad to have you as a sous chef. And I’m even making your favorite flavor.” She reached into the bag and pulled out some chocolate, displaying it to him.
He gave a smile as he shut the fridge. “You know me so well.”
Once she changed into some comfortable clothing, they chattered away and laughed as they got to baking. With a bowl in his arm and whisk in his hand, Valko started mixing the batter.
At the corner of his eye, he saw her observing him. Upon that, he purposely flexed his arm as he continued mixing. But it didn’t go unnoticed by her.
She giggled. “Are you flexing your arm?”
“Of course not,” he teasingly responded back, leaving the whisk in the bowl to bring his arm out to flex it more. “They’re always like this. You can feel them again if you’d like.”
She chucked once more and shook her head. Valko never fails to bring a smile to her face.
Once they poured the batter into the cupcake pans and placed them into the oven, she found herself being lifted off the ground and gently placed on the counter.
Valko’s mischievous glint in his eyes returned. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, gently running her fingers through his hair. Placing his hands by her hips, he leaned in to place kisses on her neck. While also giving some licks and gentle nibbles. And of course, he had the extra motive to leave more of his scent on her by continuing to rub his face all over her neck and chest. His wolf ears and tails suddenly appeared.
With a smile, she cupped his face in her hands to guide his face to hers. She leaned in to pepper kisses all over his face. He couldn’t stop the warm grin that spread across his lips. His tail swished excitedly behind him. Her touch felt like heaven.
When the cupcakes were done, they placed on the chocolate frosting and enjoyed themselves. After taking another bite of her cupcake, she brought her hand up to her mouth to hold in her laugh upon seeing some frosting on Valko’s nose when he took another bite.
“What?” His eyes gazed at her cluelessly.
She reached out to remove the frosting with her thumb. But before she could pull away, he held onto her hand. Eyes not leaving hers, he guided her hand to his mouth, licking the frosting off her thumb.
“Tastes better like this.”
Surprised by what he did, she pulled her hand away. “Valko!”
“What? Couldn’t help myself.” He licked his lips, showing off his fangs.
After finishing their midnight snack, Valko declared in excitement, “Time to cuddle.”
He lifted her up and guided her to the couch. Laying her down, he wrapped his arms around her and rested his head on her chest. With a smile, she returned the gesture and wrapped her arms comfortably around him. His body felt warm and safe against hers.
Without even realizing, they both drifted off to sleep, never breaking their embrace.
