Work Text:
Before the Great Flood, there was land without end.
There was space for everyone, and room to grow. There were great farms and greater forests, a wild that could not be tamed.
Before the Great Flood, there was a sickness.
As the water began to rise, in the space between the land and the sea, sprawling marshes festered. Insects spread and carried fever with them. Fever and death.
Before the Great Flood, there was hope.
Hope that the gods would save them. That a Hero would come. That the Kingdom would not fall.
It was a fool's hope.
It drowned.
