"You're going to regret this," he says quietly. "You'll regret ever finding this place."
"Maybe." Palm takes a step back to the shore, towards his waiting boots. "But I'm still coming back."
He pulls on his boots quickly, not taking his eyes off the man. The man doesn't move. He simply watches with narrowed eyes and a downturned mouth that betrays nothing.
Palm turns to leave, but a sudden thought gives him pause. "What's your name?"
The man's mouth opens, but no sound comes out. He huffs and offers Palm a shrug.
"You can't tell me."
The man shakes his head. "It's part of the," he gestures to the lake helplessly, "thing."
Palm grins slightly despite himself. The man's frustration is... cute, actually. Not that he'd say it aloud. He doesn't think the man would appreciate the sentiment.
"But my friends call me Swan."
