Sleepwalking Into My Heart

Summary:

Briar sleepwalks.

Cerise has a bed.

Somehow, these two facts become Cerise and Cedar's business.

Or: the one where Briar keeps ending up in Cerise's room, Cerise keeps pretending she minds, and Cedar watches the whole thing on one sleepy night.

Work Text:

So, Cerise honestly had no idea how this happened.

Just one second ago she and her roommate/BFFA Cedar Wood were sleeping peacefully, then the next thing you know their door gets knocked on suspecting it was a prank only for it to be Briar Beauty who had somehow sleep walked all the way to their dorm and is now lying face first in Cerise’s bed…

Cerise stood in her room, arms crossed, staring at Briar curled up peacefully in her bed like she had always belonged there.
Cedar stood beside her, equally unsure what to do. Both of them just stared at the sleeping princess who was lying messily and lightly snoring into Cerise’s pillow.

Cerise sighed heavily, "...I honestly don’t know what to do. Should we wake her up or…?"
Cedar tilted her head, watching Briar’s completely undisturbed sleep

"...Maybe we should let her sleep here. I’d hate to wake her up." she said.
Cerise pinched the bridge of her nose, "...Where am I gonna sleep?" she asked.

A slow, knowing smile crept onto Cedar’s face.
Cerise turned slightly. "...No."
Cedar leaned a little closer, voice rising with innocent mischief.
"You could sleep with—"
"CEDAR."
Cedar immediately raised her hands.
"I didn’t even finish the sentence!" she said laughing
"You didn’t need to!" hissed Cerise, her cheeks slightly flushed.
Briar, still asleep, mumbled softly, "...cozy..."
Cerise froze for half a second, "...She’s not helping." she sighed tiredly
Cedar tried very hard not to laugh.
"She kinda is, though." snickered Cedar.
Cerise sighed again, defeated, and looked at her bed. Briar had rolled over slightly, still completely comfortable.
"...This is my life now." muttered Cerise.
Cedar nodded seriously, "Yes. Yes it is." she said with amusement
A beat.
Then Cedar added, "...You could still sleep on the floor." she said it with a tint of playfulness
Cerise slowly turned her head, unamused, "...You’re enjoying this too much." she grumbled.
Cedar smiled sweetly, "Just a little."

***

Cerise had dramatically claimed the floor like a fallen warrior, wrapped tightly in a blanket as if she had officially accepted defeat.
Cedar sat on her bed, watching her with a concerned expression.

"...You know I was joking, right? If you want, you can share the bed with me." she offered kindly.
Cerise gave a tired little smile from her blanket cocoon, "...Nah, I’m good." she said.

Cedar narrowed her eyes slightly, "...Are you sure?"

"I’ve accepted my fate." said Cerise

Cedar didn’t look convinced, but she didn’t push it.
"...Okay. If you change your mind—"
"I won’t."
Cedar lay down, still glancing over once before turning off her lamp, only silence settled in the room.
As well as Briar’s soft, steady breathing filled the space.

***

The room was dark.

Quiet.

Cerise was halfway asleep on the floor when—A rustle. Soft footsteps. Briar, barely conscious, had sat up in bed.
"...mm..." she murmured groggily, blinking slowly.

Cerise barely had time to open her eyes, Briar blinked slowly, looking down at her.
"...Cerise..." she murmured groggily

Cerise froze instantly, "...yeah?"

‘She’s awake??’ pondered Cerise, panicked.

Without another word, Briar reached down—grabbed Cerise by the arm—

“Wha-! BRIAR??” stammered Cerise.

Then Briar dragged her into the bed like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Cerise landed beside her in a startled heap.
"...!"

Briar immediately curled back into sleep, satisfied.

"...warm..." murmured Briar softly,

And just like that, she was gone again.

Cerise lay completely still, face red, blanket half over her.
Briar pressed comfortably against her side like a heater that had claimed its owner.

Cerise stared at the ceiling blushing hard

“What…?” said Cerise, weakly.

Cerise then heard a snicker from the other side of the room…

“S-She *snort” s-she just-” snickered Cedar, covering her mouth.

“Cedar, don’t you dare finish that sentence!” hissed Cerise in embarrassment.

Briar on the other hand just snuggled closer and Cerise almost resisted the urge to explode right then and there and Cedar being unhelpful just laughed at Cerise’s misery.
Cerise didn’t have the energy to even be angry, she was too busy malfunctioning internally.
