Chapter Text
“Can I come in, Sweetheart? I’ve got you a hot chocolate.” Pepper asked, knocking lightly on her son’s bedroom door and coming in once she heard a ‘yeah’ in agreement.
“Hey, mum,” Peter began, looking up from his monitors, “thank you so much.” He continues, taking the warm drink from his mother’s hands and taking a sip of the chocolatey goodness, letting out sounds of enjoyment as he tastes it.
“No worries. How’s your homework going, almost done?” She responds, her smile as warm as the hot chocolate, “Maybe once you’re done, you can go out on patrol for a few hours, you’ve not been able to for a few days, might be nice?”
Peter seems to perk up at this suggestion, quickly putting down the mug of warmth and rushing to finish the last bits of his chemistry work. It’s true he hadn’t been able to go on patrol this week, now it’s Wednesday and he’s bursting to go out.
Pepper must have known this would motivate Peter to finish his work, as she just simply smiled when he made the quick movement to return his fingers to the keyboard.
“Oh, by the way, your dad wants to show you something in the labs before you go out on patrol.” Pepper adds before leaving the room and closing the door.
——
“Pete! I’ve got something to show you, come here.” Tony said, urging his son closer to his workstation.
Peter walked over before looking at what his father was looking at, astonished by what it was.
“Is that a new suit?”
“Yep.”
“For me?”
“Yeah, Underoos.”
“Holy shit.” He mumbled, bewildered. “Dad, this is so cool! It matches your suit.”
“Yep, I think ‘Iron Spider’ goes well with it. What do you think?” Tony suggested, choosing to ignore the swear. Captain America would have a heart attack if he heard Peter use those words; he’d have probably reprimanded the young Stark by saying “language” as he tends to.
“I think it works perfectly. Can I try it on?” He requested, running his hand over the suit’s arm, feeling the cool of the metal on his skin.
“Go for it, kid.” Tony allowed, ruffling his hand through his child’s hair.
Within seconds, Peter has the suit encased on his body. It fit like it was supposed to be his skin. Dark blue and red remained as the main colour pallet. However, this suit had strips of gold plated within it, outlining the blue on red. In the centre of the suit, a spider is outlined with gold, symbolising that it is Spider-Man. With it, on the table, lies gold versions of Peter’s web shooters.
It looked incredible.
“Looks great, Pete. Go on, try it with the mask.” Tony urges, holding the mask up in his hand for Peter to take.
“It fits perfectly, dad. This is so cool, thank you.” Peter smiles, hugging his dad, “can I use it during patrol tonight?”
“Sure thing, kiddo. Karen is already installed in it, as are all the things you may need. Just make sure to be careful and be back for dinner at 6.”
——
Being out and swinging around felt like freedom to Peter. Being out and swinging around in his new suit felt like joy in itself to Peter. He loves his normal suit, but this new one was something else.
It had everything he needed and more. A heater, fan, a built-in pocket for his Stark phone (which automatically charged his phone when it was inside the pocket), the ability to see people’s identification via facial scans, and so much more.
It’s safe to say Tony went all out with this one, and Peter was so thankful for it.
——
“Dad, that suit is insane.” Peter enthusiastically announced as he left his bedroom, wearing his pjs, and moving towards the dining table where both his parents sat.
“Did it have the right amount of flexibility for you to be able to move about as needed?” Tony questioned, handing Peter the glass bowl of spaghetti before attending to his plate of it.
“Yep, it was amazing. Best suit yet, that’s for sure. The pocket was genius work, too. Not that that’s surprising, I mean, you are a genius after all.” Peter rambled on as he loaded his plate of the sauce covered pasta.
Tony smiled in response while Pepper softly laughed at her son’s rambling. After, everyone stayed silent for a few moments while people dug into their meal.
“So, Peter…” Pepper began, bringing the attention of the two Stark men. Peter’s spider sensors began to warn him, “I just wanted to tell you before you found out in school tomorrow. Your school, Midtown School of Science and Technology, is scheduled to come here on a school trip next week.”
Shit, Peter thought to himself. This was going to be dreadful. Flash was going to be unbearable about this.
“Oh.” Was all Peter could manage to say, thinking about all of the dreadful things which may happen.
“I’m sorry, Pete. I can try and get it cancelled or you can stay home on that day—I mean you’d just be here all day either way. I get you probably don’t want to tour your own home with your class.” Pepper talked on, much like her son does when he’s trying to make someone feel better.
The thought of Pepper cancelling the tour made Peter feel ecstatic, but then also horrendous. So many people in his class would kill to tour Stark Tower, including his best friend, Ned. He couldn’t ruin this for them all, even if it was going to be bad for himself. Besides, him not being there would just add fuel to the fire (the fire being Flash’s bullying and calling Peter a liar about his Stark internship).
(Technically he is a liar, he doesn’t exactly have a Stark internship. He is a Stark, his mother and father own the company, but of course he can’t exactly say that. So to the employees that he frequently works with and helps out, he is an intern to Tony Stark and Pepper Potts, their personal intern—Peter Parker).
“It’s fine, mum. Don’t cancel it, that wouldn’t be fair for my class. Ned would kill me if he found out, too. I’d be happy to tag along for it, but preferably staying as under the radar as I can.” Peter responds, trying to keep his voice as stable as possible.
It’ll be fine… probably.
——
“Peter! Can you believe this? A tour of Stark Industries! Stark Tower!” Ned loudly shouted, his arms outstretched to shake Peter in his excitement.
“Ned, you’ve been there before with me. You go there basically every other week.”
“Still! This’ll be amazing.”
Peter was the antithesis of Ned, he looked as though someone had just killed his whole family. He looked like he was dreading his entire future existence.
“What’s up, Penis Parker? Don’t want to be proven wrong?” Flash Thompson teased, “oh, I can’t wait to see your face when you get proven to be a liar! Tony Stark will probably kick you out himself and ban you from ever entering the Stark Tower forever.”
“Does it ever get tiring, Flash?” MJ asks in an unbothered voice, looking up from her art book after likely sketching Peter’s doomed expression.
“What?”
“Always having to talk. Surely it gets exhausting. Maybe you should take a break from it for a while, do yourself and us a favour.” She responded, turning back to her book.
That shut up Flash as quickly as it always does, clearly making him embarrassed as other people in the classroom snicker.
“Whatever. Just you wait, Parker.”
“Carrying on.” Mr Harrington interrupted with a cough, “everyone will need to have their parents or guardians sign this permission slip and NDA. Please ensure to read through the NDA thoroughly, as you will need to follow those rules and also sign it. Please collect one from me before leaving, you will need it signed and in by tomorrow for the field trip on Monday. Everyone must be on their best behaviour, this is Stark Industries, a lot of you may want to work here in the future. You need to make good impressions.”
Once Mr Harrington stopped talking, everyone stood up grabbing a slip and beginning to leave.
“Peter, a word, please.” The teacher shouted out as people left, causing a snicker to leave Flash’s mouth and MJ to flash him a death stare.
“Give me a minute, I’ll be out soon.” Peter said to MJ and Ned, who nodded then walked out.
“Peter, you’re a good kid, smart. You have a bright future ahead of you…”
“But?” Peter asked, assuming he knew where this was going.
“But you simply cannot continue this lie about your Stark internship. It is common knowledge that Stark Industries does not allow High School students to be interns. We cannot have you going there and saying it out loud where you might be heard and have it shine a bad light on Midtown. Please, end this lie.” Mr Harrington sharply criticised.
“Understood, sir.” Peter replied, fighting his hardest to not roll his eyes. “Is that all?”
“Yes. Have a good afternoon, Peter. I hope you will make the right choice. Your future is too bright to be ruined by some silly lie.”
So Peter walked out, a permission slip and a few-page NDA tightly wrapped in his grip. Of course Mr Harrington thought Peter was lying. Most people did, thanks to Flash’s relentless bullying.
“What was that all about?” Ned asked worryingly as he walked towards his friend.
“He doesn’t think my internship is real.”
“What! That’s ridiculous. Didn’t you give the school proof of it?”
“Yep. It’s whatever, it’ll be proven on the trip, probably.” Peter sighed, saying goodbye to his friends and walking down the street to the area he is normally picked up.
“Hey, Happy.” Peter says, getting into a black SUV with dark tinted windows. Throwing his bag to the seat beside him and putting his seatbelt on before slumping his head back.
“Hey, kid. Rough day?” He replies, looking at Peter in his rear view mirror.
“Yep. Got a trip next Monday and I’m dreading it.”
“A trip? Surely that’ll be fun? Where’s it to?” Happy tried to reason, his voice sounding a little bored.
“Stark Tower.”
“Oh.” Happy replied, a little smile growing on his face.
“It’s not funny!” Peter angrily said, pink spreading on the back of his neck.
“It’s a little funny. You’re going on a school trip to your own home. Tony must love that. Do your parents know?”
“Yep. Mum told me last night at dinner, dad did find it funny. In fact, he found it so funny that he was laughing about it for a solid five minutes before finally needing to catch his breath. I was not amused.” Peter retold the events of last night with a large sigh following the end of his sentence.
Much like his father, Happy just laughed about it. It was slightly funny, to be honest. Dreadful, but funny. He was going to tour his own home, the place he was one day going to own.
——
“Hey, dad, can you sign my permission slip and NDA?” Peter asked, reaching in his school bag and bringing out the sheets of paper he received earlier, handing it with a sigh of dread and exaggerated misery.
“Yep,” he replies, taking the paper from Peter, “oh, I don’t know. Stark Tower? Isn’t that pretty dangerous… I don’t know if you’ll be safe going there. I mean, the avengers may be there, what if something bad happens?” Tony teased, not allowing this moment to go by him.
Peter just rolled his eyes before he paused on Tony’s sentence.
“The avengers may be there?”
“Perhaps? Who knows, they don’t exactly let us know when they will come.” Tony shrugged, signing the permission slip and NDA, not even bothering to read either.
Even more dread filled Peter, he hadn’t even thought about the possibility of the avengers coming. They don’t know about the field trip, why on Earth would they just coincidentally come?
“Well, hopefully if they do they won't try to embarrass me.” Peter says before taking the sheets of paper, signing the NDA, and slipping them back into his bag.
——
To say Peter was struggling to sleep would be an understatement. Tomorrow he has the field trip where he has to be dropped off to school by Happy and then take a bus right back. How joyful and efficient.
Every possible problem that could possibly happen entered Peter’s head, causing his anxiety to rise more and more. His father’s words swirled in his head, ‘the avengers may be there’, he could not get the idea out of his head. They would absolutely try their best to embarrass him, hell, they’d probably have bets going to see who can embarrass him the most if they knew what was going on.
“Karen, where is my mum and dad?” He asked, his face resting against his pillow looking towards the roof.
Stark Tower has three different AIs that run Stark Tower. J.O.C.A.S.T.A does not run anything, but is the AI accessible to low-ranking employees for asking things such as questions. F.R.I.D.A.Y runs pretty much anything and everything, and is only accessible by higher-ranking employees. Then there’s Karen, which is mainly just Peter’s, but can be used by Pepper and Tony as well. Most people don’t know about Karen.
“They are both in their bedroom asleep. Should I wake them for you?” Karen reported.
“No, no! It’s okay. Thank you, Karen.” Peter said with urgency. He didn’t need to wake up his parents. He just needed to get over it and sleep.
