Work Text:
They were both horrible people. In different ways, but at the end of the day, they were two halves of the same, rotten soul. The Doctor was cruel in a different way than she was. The Doctor saved people, yes, but she still had her fair share of blood on her hands. Genocides committed. The sea of blood and guilt was so vast and deep that she should have drowned in it by now, hands grasping at the surface of the water as if it were a lifeboat. But the Doctor soldiered on, because she could convince herself that if she put just enough positive into the world, it could counteract the negative.
The Master killed. Often indiscriminately. Her genocides and the blood dripping down her arms were far greater than the Doctor’s. But she never pretended to be a hero. A pacifist saving the people. If the Doctor’s sins could fill a planet, hers could fill the universe, plunging it into darkness and snuffing out all stars and life.
That is why they were perfect for each other. Two halves of one deeply fucked up soul, locking and fitting together like a puzzle. One would always forgive the other for their numerous sins, and they would curl up in bed together like they hadn’t spent several regenerations trying to kill each other, only to end up back in love again. Like magnetic fields, pushing and pulling.
A deep well of anger bubbled beneath both their surfaces, smoldering in their hearts like magma beneath the Earth’s crust. Usually, it would erupt and cause mass destruction, but when they were together, when their lips met like tectonic plates grating against each other, the anger became passion.
At the end of the day, no matter what either had done, they would curl up in bed together and kiss. Like they needed to purge their sins in the holy water of each other’s bodies. The Doctor would curl up into her side, sleeping soundly without a care in the world. She smelled like a thousand distant burning stars, tinged with the ashes of war and the scent of stars long gone supernova. She inhaled. Two halves of a broken whole, fitting together.
