The sleepover had been Julia's idea, one that MK went along with just because. While they had hung out at each other's houses, neither of them had spent the night with one another, and Julia decided to put an end to that by inviting her girlfriend over for a sleepover while her parents were away.
"It'll be fun, I promise," she had claimed, batting her eyelashes at MK, who had rolled her eyes but agreed.
So, MK had told her parents that she was spending the night at Julia's, and her mom dropped her off after they had dinner and told her to behave herself. As if. MK was always good.
Julia greets her at the door with a hand on her hip, her usual jean shorts and white tank top switched out for a matching set of pink pajamas. They look cute, and are most likely PR from a brand of some kind. "What took you so long? It's nearly dark."
"Had dinner with my parents," MK answers, her backpack thrown over her shoulder. She'd thrown on a pair of sweats and an oversized graphic tee she'd somehow managed to steal from Hot Topic a while back.
"Seriously? I ordered Pad Thai," Julia says, crossing her arms over her chest. "And I bought those chips you like, even though they smell."
MK grins, tilting her head up as she looks at her pouty girlfriend. "I could go for Pad Thai. And sour cream and onion chips aren't that bad, you're just a baby."
Julia rolls her eyes but drags MK inside anyways, and the shorter girl kicks off her beat up sneakers, putting them beside Julia's own clean white ones. She lets the blonde lead her through the house, to a dining room where Pad Thai is waiting on the table, as well as a laptop.
MK takes control of the device, easily logging into Julia's Netflix account and scrolling through some options, settling on Stranger Things, mostly because Julia reminded her about the new season. It was a decent enough show, especially to watch while they ate.
They sit down, MK pressing play and turning show onto full screen. She then leans back, taking a bite of her Pad Thai and humming at the taste. "I'm surprised you remembered my order. We haven't had this since that double date with Bowie and Raj."
"Please don't remind me of that," Julia mutters, swallowing her bite of Paid Thai. The date would have been fine, if Wayne hadn't tagged along. Having a fifth wheel wasn't as fun as everybody made it out to be, especially when he was the loudest fifth wheel ever.
Luckily, Bowie had also seemed unamused, and kindly told Raj to leave Wayne at home, as if he were a pet. Somehow, Raj listened—probably so he could keep the peace between the four of them—because on their last double date, the blond guy was nowhere to be found.
Thank God. The four had gotten bubble tea, so Julia could post about it on her Instagram, and she just knows Wayne would have made a joke about balls that would have ruined her day.
"Tough subject?" MK quips, the tiniest smirk on her lips. She takes another bite of her food before turning back to the screen.
"You have no idea," Julia mumbles under her breath, also turning to watch the show. She still isn't quite sure how a show about a whole bunch of nerdy shit got to be so popular, but she watched it anyways, just to give her something else to post about. Fake it till you make it.
They finish eating their food before the first episode finishes, but they decide to wait it out, only to watch as the cheerleader gets brutally killed at the end. The two girls turn to look at each other, eyes slightly widened, and Julia grimaces.
"Okay, that was seriously fucked up."
"You think?!"
They bicker back and forth for a few minutes, until Julia decides it's the perfect time for them to go upstairs and try on some facemasks she was sent by a beauty brand. She leads MK upstairs by the wrist, her laptop held in her other hand, and the shorter girl lets herself be led with a few complaints.
Sitting on Julia's bed, MK watches as the blonde sorts through boxes upon boxes of PR, searching for the face masks. "You're so lucky," she tells her girlfriend, stretching out her legs and looking at the taller girl, who is still searching. "You get all this free shit and for what?"
"It's called influencing. You should try it sometime," Julia fires back, leaving MK to grumble to herself. She finally finds the facemasks, and plops down on the bed beside her girlfriend, reading the labels of the masks. "The green tea one might be good for you, but you'd probably like the strawberry smell more."
In the end, she puts the strawberry facemask over MK, and puts on her own cucumber one. MK shivers from the sudden coolness, giving Julia a sideways glance. "These feel weird."
Julia rolls her eyes, taking her phone out to snap a selfie of the two of them. "They're supposed to feel weird. They're facemasks. Have you seriously never used one?"
"Nope. Me and my bar of soap for life!" MK proclaims, laying down on her back. She laughs at the "ew!" Julia lets out, not letting it get to her. Her skin was clear without having to use a gazillion products. The bar of soap was her ol' reliable.
Julia reclines against some pillows, scrolling through her phone while letting the facemasks do their job. Every now and then she'll show MK a video or a post, rolling her eyes or laughing, depending on what it's about.
"Seriously, Chase is getting desperate! Like, dude, she doesn't like you," MK says when Julia shows her a post of his, which is a picture of a big bouquet of flowers and a disgruntled Emma. "She should've gotten a restraining order against him months ago."
"Bowie told her that too," Julia replies, fighting the urge to leave a hate comment. Instead, she scrolls past, looking through more posts. "It's just embarrassing for him. Plus, I think Emma likes Zee now."
MK raises an eyebrow, sitting up and barely stopping the facemask from sliding down. "Seriously? Zee? Well, you can't say she has a type."
They talk about the rest of their acquittances some more (friends is too strong of a word for most of them), until Julia announces its time to take off the masks. They do so, and MK realizes they look the same. When she tells her girlfriend such, she's rewarded with a flick to her forehead.
"You use a bar of soap for skincare. How is it supposed to save you from that?" Julia asks, before turning her phone screen on and opening the camera app. "Huh. It actually didn't do anything."
"I literally said that!"
They decide to watch another episode of Stranger Things, and halfway through the episode, MK finds herself nodding off, head against Julia's shoulder. The blonde doesn't seem bothered by it, eyes focused on the screen, and so MK lets herself drift off into sleep, tucked against her girlfriend's side.
A few minutes later, Julia nearly jolts at the icy cold foot touching her calf, and she decides to lay MK down so she can stand up. Once she finishes laying the smaller girl down and making sure she's tucked in, she heads over to her dresser, finding a pair of pink fuzzy socks.
It's not too hard to slide them onto MK's feet, the girl somehow not waking up, which Julia is thankful for. She pauses the episode, sitting her laptop down on her desk before climbing back into her bed, sliding under the covers. MK leans into her touch, much to her amusement, and Julia also finds herself falling asleep, dreaming of scented facemasks and a familiar grin.
