The Consequences of Accepting Fate

Summary:

Fate... Is it truly cruel?
Is it Truly kind?
Is it truly chaotic?
Is it truly peaceful?

Is it truly...all?

Was our end already determined before our beginning?
Or do we just convince our selves as such?

Well... Elder Faerie never knew.
Yet, the time has come that he has no choice but to ponder.

Was accepting duty truly the right choice?
Was he doomed to be just another dough rotting beneath silver roots? Was that his purpose?

Was it all for...nothing?

Chapter 1: A Faerie's Lament

Chapter Text

It always seemed unquestionable.

Fate.
Cruel.
Yet kind.
Excruciating.
Yet gentle.
Predetermined.
Yet unknowable.
No use in fighting it.
The string that ties us all together.
The threads that decided how our story would end before we came to be.
Before the ingredients in our dough were even gathered. We owe fate everything we have.
We owe fate all our gratitude and hatred.
We owe fate all our sweet melodies and out of tune instruments.
We owe fate every alliance and rivalry.
We owe fate every moment of peace and war We owe fate for all of the tears shed.
Whether they be shed in joy or sorrow.

Fate- is there no escape? Is there no way to break free from one's supposed ‘destiny’?
Does… fate even exist… or is it just us attempting to cope with the world around us-
to gaslight ourselves into believing this is always how it was meant to be.

That the story could never have ended better. That it's not our fault it ends like this. That it's not our fault that every time, the story ends with the same, lingering silvery regrets.

That life was always destined to be a waste of time.
