Chapter Text
Mel’s last day as a resident in the emergency department of PTMC was fast approaching. Soon, she’d start her fellowship in Emergency Pediatrics.
She got the email sitting on the couch with Frank beside her, gasping and tapping his arm as excitement overtook her, “Look,” she exclaimed, tilting her phone towards him.
She watched as his blue eyes scanned the words, his expression filling quickly with excitement and pride, “You got in?” he breathed, his eyes meeting hers.
Mel nodded quickly, “I got in,” she whispered. There was barely a second between the words leaving her mouth, and his lips finding hers.
As she walked into the locker room, her head held high and a smile on her face, her eyes landed on Frank.
“What are you doing here?”
“Well it’s nice to see you too,” Frank laughed, his arms snaking around her shoulders, “I came to get you,” he answered, placing a kiss to her forehead, letting go so she could open her locker.
She entered her code, and Frank stepped back slightly as she pulled it open.
Pop!
Confetti of all different colors floated through the air as Frank softly laughed behind her.
“Frank,” she cooed as she reached inside and pulled out a note, “you didn’t have to do this.”
“Oh, but I did,” he told her, his arms wrapping around her waist from behind, pressing a lingering kiss to the crook of her neck, “you are going to be the best emergency pediatrician this hospital has ever seen. You deserve to be celebrated.”
Mel turned around in his arms, their bodies flush as she stood up on her toes, placing a kiss to the corner of his mouth.
“Well let’s get home then,” she smirked, “so we can celebrate properly.”
Mel grabbed her things from her locker and together they made their way to Frank’s car.
When she pulled down the sun visor to assess the damage of the day, another cascade of confetti fell into her lap.
Frank’s head tipped back in laughter as Mel brushed the rainbow confetti off of her pants, “There’s a lot more where that came from.”
“Please tell me you didn’t put confetti in your pants” Mel groaned,
She looked over as Frank shrugged, his lips pulling to one side.
“No promises.”
