“You like 'em?” he asks, wiggling his eyebrows, “I wanted us to match.”

And Mel nods, her heart threatening to beat out of her chest, because Frank Langdon has purple laces on his skates.

(or the ice dance partners slow burn that no one asked for)

His blood settled into a quieter hum as he closed the distance. He’d trained his whole life for this. He would be the one to bring safety to his village. He would be the one to bring glory back to the Langdon name. He was born for this.

But... why wasn’t the beast attacking?

    Summary

Frank Langdon has spent the last couple years adjusting to his new normal: keeping his head down at work, being a present father, navigating co-parenting, and making sure his sobriety sticks this time around. Those are his priorities; dating doesn’t even break the top ten. Or, at least that’s what Frank thinks before she walks into the ED:

    Mel King.

    Global superstar.

“Hmpf,” Robby says, after the first run-through on Monday morning when Frank has felt like a fucking pervert for running running his hands down Mel’s soft side, over and over again, because the choreography requires it. It didn’t really help that he couldn’t sleep last night, feeling itchy and hot under the covers.

He’d tried the dancer’s version of counting sheep, blocking the ballet in his mind, going through all his steps. (His favorite for that right now is the ballroom scene where he first meets Juliet, because the blocking of the sheer number of dancers is so involved, it helps to shut up his brain.)

He was just waiting in the wings, yam-pam-pam, Prokofiev’s score playing in his mind, watching Juliet and Paris dance at the ball. Juliet is polite, but bored. Yolanda always plays the bored part really well.

But then, thinking of how Juliet needs to slips out of Paris' hands on the beat and turn towards Romeo, it was suddenly Mel's face that looked at him expectantly, a soft flush on her cheeks.

    Yikes.

Or: Royal ballet principal Yolanda Garcia gets injured and Frank Langdon needs a new partner. Enter Mel King, a recent transfer from Pittsburgh Ballet.
