Trent was absolutely lighting up, eyes bright and grin wide, hands waving almost frantically, just—radiating joy, unthinking and unrestrained, and Ted can’t help but grin back. Trent—oft-reticent and quiet Trent—beaming like that, like the sun, is just such a rare and wonderful sight it fills Ted’s heart right up with something bright and warm and fizzy.
And then Trent excitedly throws himself forward into Ted’s arms and hugs him, just this tight, happy embrace, and Ted laughs and hugs back half on instinct, catches his weight and holds him.
And then—Trent pulls back just enough to grin at him with those bright, sparkling eyes, crinkled at the corners, so overjoyed his whole face is transformed, his whole everything glowing, and then he leans in, quick-as-you-please, and presses a swift, sweet kiss right to Ted’s lips.
It’s quick, happy, unthinking, and then when Trent pulls back, he seems to realize what he’s just done. Still wrapped up in Ted’s arms, smile dropping into something embarrassed, a pink flush climbing up his cheeks.
“Uh,” Trent manages, still half-smiling but now stilled with that shock-embarrassment-uncertainty, and Ted can’t help but just stare dumbly, mute, eyes just a little hooded, because—
Happiness is a good look on Trent. And even in a quick, excited peck of lips, he’s a good kisser.
Or maybe Ted’s just biased.
Trent untangles himself, gives Ted an embarrassed smile, but not as panicky or shut-down-cold as he would have only a year ago, like there’s some implicit understanding—like Ted’s agreed to forget it ever happened without saying a word. Like it was just an excited impulse and not an electric jumpstart on Ted’s heart.
He slips away before Ted can kiss him again, and Ted stares dumbly after him like a man in love.
