You haven’t eaten Pancakes?” More Famous Last Words Have Never Been Spoken

Summary:

Izuku finds out Eri has never tried a pancake before and thus makes it his mission to make some for her. Obviously everything goes wrong from there.

Day #10 of Fluffy July
Prompt: Eating Pancakes Together | “I adore your hands"

Notes:

Guys. There is a tag, an official one. For pancakes.

I can die happy.

I didn't use it though. I guess it's because I already had a few?? Anyway, you can kinda tell that I wrote the this one and the last one on the same day. I hope you enjoy :) Tell me if I need anymore tags.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Izuku was in charge of taking care of Eri that day, and he took to the job like a fish to water. He was responsible and he made sure to explain to Eri what he was doing so she was never caught off guard, and thus, scared.

Naturally, this meant that he was one of the first ones the Yamazawa family called when they needed somebody to help out with her.

It was on one of the many days where he was made to babysit Eri when something happened. Everything in the universe moved slightly to the left. The world ended, something that should not have happened occurred.

Izuku found out that in all of the years Eri had lived, she had not tried a single pancake.

What was this atrocity? Even if someone didn’t like pancakes, they had usually made that opinion after they had tried one.

This was against the very laws of the universe. Curse you Overhaul and all you stand for. How dare you uptight prick deny Eri of ever having a pancake.

How could Mr Aizawa have gone on this long without ever making Eri try one? How could he have done this?

And henceforth began the great battering. The world will look upon this day with fear in their eyes and misery in their hearts.

_________

It all started on a day like any other. Izuku was in the kitchen, humming calmly to himself as they gently folded Eri’s clothes, helping out with the laundry even without being asked.

It was then the unmistakable question, the one that set forth the series of events occurred. It would have happened eventually, as inevitable as the sun rising, but even then people wondered for generations after if they could’ve prevented this.

Izuku asked what Eri’s opinion on pancakes was.

And she replied, with her innocent, sweet smile, her large red eyes peering up curiously at her older brother. “What’s a pancake?”

Izuku stood stock still. “What?”

Eri shrunk in on herself a little, “Sorry. I’m sorry, I won’t ask again.”

Izuku stooped down and gently calmed Eri down. “I’m sorry Eri, I didn’t mean to scare you, I’m just. You know when we explained to you about how sometimes adults get angry at things they view as unjust?”

Eri nodded her head smiling a bit. “Yeah, like about how Overhaul treated me!” She exclaimed. Izuku was happy that she was able to talk about Overhaul without panicking now.

“Well Eri, I wasn’t mad at you, I just found it unjust that you had never tried a pancake. Because I love pancakes.”

Eri appeared happier at the reassurance and Izuku sighed in relief. Then the next question came. “Can I try a pancake?”

Look, usually this was no issue. Just run to the store, get pancake mix, and come back. Easy fix.

Unfortunately, there was a nationwide deficiency of pancake mix.

(Convenient right?)

But Izuku wasn’t about to disappoint his younger sister, of course he wouldn’t. In fact, he could make it himself.

“Of course Eri,” he said, internally panicking, “What flavour?”

“Hmmm, apple.”

“Okay Eri, apple it is. I have to go outside to buy the ingredients for it. Could you stay with Shinso for a bit.”

“Yes!”

Izuku rang up Shinso, and upon receiving an affirmative, set off on his quest to make pancakes.

Izuku looked at the recipe in his hand. He knew milk was in Aizawa’s fridge so he didn’t need that.

Unfortunately for him, the couple had literally nothing else, Izuku wondered how they survived this long.

He ran through what he needed, crossing out the milk. Flour, baking powder, eggs, melted butter, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and fresh apples.

Let’s see if he could find them.

He went to the store first, and, as one does, only defeated about 3 or so villains on the way. He was on a time limit and couldn’t leave Eri behind for long, so he did admit he was doing unconventional things but…

Time was of the essence.

So after whacking a villain over the head with a sack of flour, and accidentally boiling one or two eggs when he faced a villain who could control fire, he left.

He looked through his list again, the corner of it slightly singed but otherwise fine.

Sugar, vanilla, and apples were the only things left.

It was here that he faced a problem.

Apparently, the MLA had bought out all of the fresh apples, and had purchased all of the sugar in a 40 kilometre radius.

Herein lies the problem.

Izuku did not know of any stores outside of that radius, and that increased the risk of coming across an unsavoury one. That just wouldn’t do.

He found the vanilla with ease, of course, it just wasn’t in that supermarket. But now Izuku had a decision to make.

He could either risk going into an unsafe store and risk buying unsafe apples and sugar. But it would be safer.

Or he could get the apples and sugar from the stores he trusted, liberating them from the meta liberation army, who the heroes had gathered an elite task force to hopefully eliminate.

There was really only one option here.

____

“Wha-”

“There’s a kid-”

“A teen-”

Finally the thing arrived at Re-destro’s office. Looking no worse for wear. The thing had glowing green eyes and a dark hoodie. It looked around, Re-destro could only shiver.

“Where are the apples and sugar?”

____

So Izuku got the rest of the ingredients he needed.

“Eri, I’m home,” he said, and got to work. He had only taken over a mafia base on the way back and had arrived home with little distraction after that.

He quickly got to work preparing all of the ingredients, making sure to measure everything out so that it was just right.

Shinso helpfully tried a bit of batter, giving Izuku a thumbs up.

As a connoisseur of pancakes, and a great enjoyer of one, I approve greatly. Unfortunately, to fully get my opinion I’m going to need, like, three more of these, just for testing.

Izuku obliged, but that’s not relevant.

When he finally served it to Eri, hastily wiping a smidge of red from his face when he realised it was there, Eri smiled her stunning smile and ate it happily. She even drew a picture of the two eating pancakes together and proclaimed apple pancakes as the best in the world.

All was right.

“Breaking news: The Meta Liberation Army, a top Yakuza gang, and 5 of the most wanted individuals on the HPSC’s list were taken down today. The reasons for this were unknown. If anybody has any information about this mysterious person, please come to the HPSC so that we can give them the award they deserve.

And also arrest them for vigilantism.”

Wow, Izuku wondered who would be brave enough to do that. Certainly not him. Sure he had raided the MLA and a few villains had bumped into him on his way to the supermarket, but it wasn’t that big of a deal.

Wait.

Omake:

Aizawa: *arrives home*

Aizawa: *Reaches inside a half-open cabinet and silently pulls out pancake mix. They had been planning to make Eri pancakes.*

Izuku: *Looks down sheepishly* “Oops.”
