That Sad Moment When Your Day Is Interrupted

Summary:

Nagisa and Karma are hanging out when a stranger rudely decides to stalk them. In their defence, officer, the dude was way too persistent.

Day #11 of Fluffy July
Prompt: Slushie | “Try it”

Notes:

Did I put nonsense tags because I couldn't figure out appropriate tags for this? Yes.

Do I regret it? No.

Also guys, I write my fics in Google docs or sometimes on paper and then put it on a draft on ao3. I then save that draft so that I can post it on the day. I am making my drafts at 10:47 rn.

Wouldn't be a problem except I am determined to destroy my eyesight so I am sitting in the dark with only the dim light of my computer screen and I cannot see the keys of my Chromebook. Finding hashtags is so unreasonably hard like this I swear.

Also I read too many books made in America because I had to google the Aussie spelling for 'defence' sooo.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Nagisa paid for the drink, grasping it in both hands and enjoying the cold seeping out from it. He smiled at Karma, who was standing by looking vaguely uncomfortable.

Nagisa offered the slushie, “You should totally try this, Karma!”

“No thanks,” Karma said. He still looked uncomfortable, and while Nagisa had at first thought it was something to do with the environment or all of the people, he was clued into the fact that something was wrong as he noticed Karma’s clenched fists.

Karma rarely did that. Especially in public. It was known as a sign of aggression, and usually with clenched fists came a murderous aura, which Class 3-E had long told him made everybody other than them uncomfortable.

And they wanted to hang out mostly in peace. Thank you very much.

Karma had obliged with a grumble, promising not to make anybody uncomfortable for no reason.

So there had to be a reason for it now.

Nagisa wasn’t concerned that Karma had been the first to notice something was wrong, they were always on high alert, and that meant they were usually much more observant out in public.

What Nagisa was concerned about, however, was that even with Karma essentially telling him something was off, he still couldn’t find anything suspicious at first glance.

He absentmindedly stirred his slushie, sometimes it froze up near the top and that made it a pain to drink.

He quickly glanced around the place they were in again, trying to find whatever had put aKarma on guard. Because if there was a threat here, there was no telling what their motives were. The rest of 3-E could be in danger.

Finally he spotted it. A man, looking fairly ordinary and inconspicuous to the untrained eye. They were wearing a forest green hoodie and black, polished sneakers. Their hair was black, possibly just a really dark shade of brown.

Their pants were just trousers. Trousers with many pockets, one of the pockets containing a gun.

It was hard to notice, especially if the man was still, but he had moved a little, and Nagisa had found that telltale flash of silver.

He would know, he had studied a lot of weapons to try and kill Koro-sensei. He had even held a gun himself.

Every so often the man would look up and glance at them before swiftly looking away.

It seemed that both parties were watching each other.

He met Karma’s eyes, and they gave a slight smirk of approval before they started their conversation.

“So, are you going to order anything else, Nagisa?”

(Are we going to do anything about this man?)

“Maybe some fries, a little ketchup?”

(Just do the basic thing, lose him, spill a little blood if needed.)

Karma nodded, and their conversation was over. Nagisa called the waiter and ordered the fries. It was really quite good so kudos to the restaurant, before they both paid and left.

The man followed them.

Granted, he was fairly subtle about it. He could see why it took him so long to figure out what was going on. Not to mention that they had changed their attire somewhere between Karma and Nagisa leaving and them coming out of the restaurant.

But they weren’t subtle enough.

Karma pulled out a shopping list. Just randomly, like almost out of thin air.

“Karma, wha-”

Karma whispered back. “If we are going to have to deal with this on the one day you’re not busy, I am killing two birds with one stone.”

Nagisa obliged, he did agree that he had been rather busy lately, so he followed his friend as they dipped in and out of stores. Karma had a lot of things on his list, and of course most of them couldn’t be found in the same store. That would be too easy.

He could tell Karma was rather annoyed that their little hangout had to be interrupted by a rando with a gun.

The complicated list did serve a secondary purpose, however, and Nagisa could tell when he looked out of the corner of his eye that their little stalker was starting to forego being subtle in exchange for being fast.

Nagisa was honestly just surprised that they had kept up with them for this long. Karma had long legs and Nagisa was a fast walker.

They got everything they needed and the man came out seconds after they had left the mall they were in.

Karma rolled his eyes at the man’s determination, but Nagisa could tell from the grin that he had on his face that Karma was going to enjoy what was going to happen next.

Nagisa didn’t really feel like fighting today, so as they walked into a random alley, officially letting the man have an opportunity (and potentially revealing to him that they knew he was there), he stepped behind Karma with a smile.

“I’ll leave this to you.”

Karma smiled, but he had a half-crazed look in his eye, “Of course, Nagi, I’ve been needing to let out some steam on a live target anyway.”

He took another sip of his drink as Karma proceeded to completely batter the dude. At some point they tried to take out their gun, but Karma just disarmed them with little flair and tossed it backwards to Nagisa, who caught it and turned the safety on.

Then he stashed it away in his bag.

It was almost sad how easily Karma defeated the guy. It wasn’t even a fair match at this point.

When some blood came out of the guy’s nose, spraying a little as the guy snorted Nagisa furrowed his brow in disgust. This was why he had tried to lose the dude, now his clothes were going to get dirty.

He took another sip of his slushie, relieved that it had melted a little.

When Karma had finished letting out all of his boredom onto the man, he took a step back.

“Did you get any information,” Nagisa asked. He had zoned out at the third scream of terror and the 7th cry for help that was quickly muffled by Karma.

“Yeah, just a person who was trying to stake us out to find the rest of our class. Even the weakest person in the class could probably beat him, honestly. I don’t know how he was expecting to defeat all of us, even if he did have friends.”

“Yeah, I watched the first part of your ‘battle’. It was almost sad.”

“I’m still annoyed that he interrupted today though,” Karma stated, running a hand through his crimson hair, “This guy was just not worth it.”

“It’s alright Karma, maybe another time. Want some of my slushie?”

“Sure.”

Notes:

Omake:

The random dude that was following them: *Actually an expert at disguise and subtlety, an expert in his craft and reasonably good at martial arts.*

Also Karma: *Defeats the dude within like three seconds.*

Nagisa: *Standing off to the side* “Do you know how hard it is to get an off day away from my mother?”
