mdzs pride ficlets

Summary:

Ficlets I didn't manage to expand on that I still wanted to include for pride.

Work Text:

Quiet Guy & Loud Friend (Lan Wangji & Nie Huaisang)

Nie Huaisang bursts into the library with a stack of romance novels and zero shame.

"Hanguang-Jun! I need your expert opinion. Is this cover accurate or is the artist being dramatic?"

Lan Wangji doesn't look up. "It's accurate."

Nie Huaisang gasps. "You didn't even look!"

"I know the artist."

"WHAT."

Nie Huaisang drops into the chair across from him, fanning himself. "You have connections? You? The guy who once told me to 'read quieter'?"

Lan Wangji finally looks up, and there's the faintest ghost of a smile. "I have many connections. I simply choose not to share them."

Nie Huaisang gapes. Then he cackles. "I knew it. I knew there was a chaos gremlin in there."

"Don't tell Wei Wuxian."

"Your secret's safe. For a price."

"Name it."

"Fan recommendations."

Lan Wangji pulls out a list. "Already prepared."

Sports AU

The court is electric. Wei Wuxian darts past two defenders, ball in hand, and Lan Wangji is already at the hoop, waiting.

Wei Wuxian passes without looking. Lan Wangji catches, pivots, scores.

The buzzer blares. They win.

Wei Wuxian tackles him in the middle of the court, sweaty and grinning. "That was insane! Your pass, you-"

"Your pass," Lan Wangji corrects, breathless. "You knew I'd be there."

"Of course I did. I always know where you are."

The stadium is roaring. Jiang Cheng is yelling at them to get a room. Wei Wuxian doesn't care. He's still wrapped around Lan Wangji, their foreheads touching.

"Same time next week?" Wei Wuxian whispers.

Lan Wangji's hand finds his back. "Every week."

Adopting a Kid Together (A-Yuan)

A-Yuan is small. Too small. He clings to Wei Wuxian's robe like it's the only anchor in a stormy sea.

"Are you my baba now?" he whispers.

Wei Wuxian's heart cracks open. He looks at Lan Wangji, who kneels beside them, impossibly gentle.

"Yes," Lan Wangji says. "Both of us."

A-Yuan's eyes go wide. "Two?"

"Two," Wei Wuxian confirms, voice thick. "You get two babas. That's double the bedtime stories. Double the hugs."

A-Yuan considers this. Then he launches himself at Lan Wangji, who catches him effortlessly, and Wei Wuxian watches his husband hold their son for the first time.

"Double the love," Lan Wangji murmurs, and Wei Wuxian cries.

Pride Parade (Modern AU)

Wei Wuxian is covered in glitter. It's in his hair, on his cheeks, somehow inside his shirt. He's holding a rainbow flag the size of a small car and screaming along to the music blasting from the parade float.

Lan Wangji walks beside him, holding a smaller flag, his expression serene.

"You could look happier," Wei Wuxian shouts over the noise.

"I am happy."

"You're smiling?"

Lan Wangji's lips twitch. "Yes."

Wei Wuxian stops. Stares. Then he drops the flag and kisses him right there, in the middle of the street, while the parade swirls around them and someone throws confetti and a thousand strangers cheer.

When they break apart, Lan Wangji's cheeks are pink.

"Now you look happy," Wei Wuxian grins.

"Shameless," Lan Wangji says, but he's holding Wei Wuxian's hand like he'll never let go.

Cross-Dressing / Gender Exploration (Nie Huaisang & Luo Qingyang)

Nie Huaisang stands in front of the mirror. The dress is deep red, silk, flowing. It's beautiful.

He's beautiful.

Luo Qingyang adjusts his sleeve with meticulous care. "The embroidery should be here. To draw the eye."

"Luo-guniang, you're a genius."

"I know." She fluffs the fabric, then steps back. "How do you feel?"

Nie Huaisang turns, watching the dress move. He's never worn anything like this in public. Never been seen.

"I feel," he says slowly, "like myself."

Luo Qingyang's eyes go soft. She hands him a fan. "Then let's go show everyone."

He takes it. Her hands are steady. For the first time, everything feels right.

Queer Elders (If Lan Qiren had a secret old flame and I think it would be hilarious if I wrote this out)

Lan Qiren receives a letter. It's written on faded paper, addressed in a hand he hasn't seen in forty years.

I am still alive. I am still waiting. Are you?

He reads it three times. Then he folds it carefully, places it in his sleeve, and walks to the training grounds where his nephew's husband is teaching a junior to whistle.

"You," he says to Wei Wuxian. "I need help."

Wei Wuxian falls off his sword.

"You- what- you need me?"

Lan Qiren's jaw tightens. "Don't make me repeat it."

But Wei Wuxian is already grinning, already pulling out paper and brush. "Tell me everything. Who's the lucky person?"

Lan Qiren looks away, his ears red. "No one. It's no one."

Wei Wuxian pats his shoulder. "Sure, Uncle. Sure."

Kink and Boundaries/Consent (WangXian)

Wei Wuxian's breath catches. "Lan Zhan-"

"Too much?"

"I don't," His hands shake. "I don't know."

Lan Wangji stops immediately. He pulls back, cups Wei Wuxian's face, searches his eyes.

"Safe word," he says quietly. "Use it."

"Didn't need to," Wei Wuxian whispers. "You stopped."

"I will always stop." Lan Wangji's thumb traces his cheek. "Your comfort matters. More than anything."

Wei Wuxian laughs, shaky and wet. "You're too good to me."

"Impossible." Lan Wangji kisses his forehead. "We stop. We talk. Then we continue, if you want. If not, we hold each other."

"Hold me," Wei Wuxian says. "Please."

Lan Wangji wraps around him, solid and safe, and Wei Wuxian breathes him in.

Neurodivergence Acceptance (The ears thing is canonical to the manhua, I believe)

The banquet is too loud. Too bright. Too much.

Lan Wangji sits rigid, his hands pressed flat against his knees. He's counted the ceiling tiles. He's named every flower in the centerpiece. He's still drowning.

Then Wei Wuxian's hand finds his. Warm. Familiar.

"Hey," Wei Wuxian murmurs, covering Lan Wangji's ears with his hands. "Look at me."

Lan Wangji obeys.

"Match my breathing. In. Out. I've got you."

The noise fades. Lan Wangji's chest unclenches.

"Sorry," he says.

"Never apologize." Wei Wuxian squeezes his hand. "You're not broken. You're just you. And you're my favorite person."

Lan Wangji's eyes sting. "Wei Ying..."

"Later. We'll leave early. I'll make you tea. We'll sit in the quiet."

Lan Wangji nods, and slowly, he breathes.
