Work Text:

The flower was silent. The “mysterious wind” Flowery was so fond of, whistled through the sunset-lit corridor and washed the world with a golden glow. Teenager shaped, and a bright, passionate red, the flower stared them down with a serene, confident look on their face, and a long stick grasped in their hand. Their hair, a dark red dyed brown in the golden light wavered gently.
Susie had been disorientated by the sudden appearance, especially since she had thought the gang had met all 7 flowers from Asgore’s shop, but the human shape the flower-darkner… guys took was unmistakeable. She glanced back at Kris to double check and was immediately distracted by the horrified look on their face. Kris is pretty damn emotive, she’s always thought, no matter how little they truly. Emote. But she’s gotten real good at reading them, and yet all that experience is unnecessary in the face of the true unadulterated terror that has taken control of their expression.

“Kris?” she says worriedly, a friendly hand reaching out for their shoulder as they continue to stare at the red flower. Their head whips to a slight angle to peer back at her, before jerkily returning back to the flower, one hand spasming at their side and another slowly and unsteadily rising to their chest. A clawed and straining hand hovers over their chest, vibrating with the stress of strained muscles.

“Kris!” She repeats, thoroughly freaked out. She turns to the side completely, ignoring the flower ahead of them who has noticed Kris’s distress and seems ready to step forward, but whose concentrated visage give nothing more away. Her hair whips around as she barks over her should “Ralsei, a little help here?” and her stomach drops as she realizes his face is similarly disturbed and already staring she and Kris down. Susie’s hands find Kris’s shoulders as they begin to curl forward, holding them steady as they convulse as if a cough was moving through their frame. The hand above their chest meets the fabric of their shirt and pulls and relaxes in rhythmic pulses.

Ralsei seems to see it coming before Susie does, and the magic green glow of healing envelops the both of them just as Kris coughs up a spatter of dark red blood, barely missing Susie. They don’t look any better.
“Kris what the fuck is happening,” Susie guides Kris to the floor and follows them down on her knees. Steps reach her ear and she pulls Kris to her chest protectively as the red flower approaches her side silently. The flower reaches out with a rag, and hands it over to Susie. She doesn’t really have the emotional bandwidth to compute whatever is going on with this new flower and takes the rag with a nod and roughly shoves the rag to Kris’s chin to staunch blood. Kris has yet to respond in any intelligible way and Susie has to fight every instinct to shake them as she has done many times before. The flower kneels at the two’s side and pulls a… whole cinnamon bun from their pocket. Shaped like an animal, perhaps.

Susie has been familiar with Kris’s bigger on the inside pockets but has found the phenomenon to be strictly limited to them and is a little thrown by just how strange this Dark World’s flowers have been. Susie once again takes the offering, beggars can’t be choosers, and the flower has a trust-inspiring concerned look on their face. Susie waves the presumably magic healing food under Kris’s nose. They nibble lightly. Whatever has happened, is still not under control.

A low keening noise builds as Kris leans forward into Susie helplessly. Their shaking has increased in viciousness and Susie kind of feels like crying. The red flower reaches over, as if to put a comforting hand on Kris’s back, interrupted by a nuclear bomb’s worth of red light erupting from the point of contact. Susie’s vision whites out.

When her eyes come to the ever present sun has finally completely set. Night has come to the eternally sun lit dark world. Yet, the hall is still illuminated with a bright glow. Kris is limp by her side, crumpled on the floor. Ralsei is similarly knocked out. Only Susie is awake enough to see the source of the glow. Twice her height, and cloaked a flowing cloth, an ethereal red spirit with Too Damn Many sets of wings flutters around the red flower as their hand whitens around the stick.

“Frisk!!!” It gushes. “I am so damn happy to see you!”
