The interrogation room.

Work Text:

Intern tried leaning back in their chair, but their their handcuffs were bounded to thee interrogation table, they were stuck to it. They were going through any normal shift, as they did any other day, before Officer Duckman suddenly came in and arrested them. Something about "pilfering" and "aiding a serial killer". They groaned loudly, seeing if they could grab thee attention of someone outside of the room, but no reply. The room was grimy and was awfully moist, they could feel a layer of sweat already coating their fur. would be nice to wipe it off if they weren't all tied up.

"if your gonna lock me in here can you at least turn on the AC?"

No reply.

Intern struggled against the handcuff's that bounded their wrists for a bit before they finally gave up. Maybe giving Barney the scalpel wasn't a great idea, how were they supposed to know that was a crime?  Aren't hospitals supposed to help people? In a way they were just helping Barney out, maybe they would give their lawyer that story, if they could afford one. But if they were lucky, they wouldn't need a lawyer, surely they could talk this out and he could get out of this with just a warning and go back to working at the hospital. That's if they weren't fired already.

After what felt like an eternity of sitting around in and doing nothing, they heard the metallic door finally swing open as Officer Duckman entered the interrogation room.

"God it's hot in here."

"Yeah and you just left me here, it's sweltering in here."

Officer Duckman took the chair in front of them, "not to sure what that word means but I'll just cut to the chase.. your being charged with an AKS violation."

Intern just rolled their eyes, "whatever that means."

"Up to 10 years of prison or a $100,000 dollar charge, plus a felony on your record."

If it could stretch far enough, Intern's jaw would've hit the floor, 10 years for a little scalpel? "Does that mean Dr Harlow pressed charges?"

"An AKS violation is put into effect whether or not the owner of the hospital presses charges"

"Fuck."

"But don't fret yet," Officer Duckmans tone suddenly took a softer pitch, "We can help you lower this to a minimum of 1 year with a chance of parole. No fines."

"1 year's a pretty long time."

"Wanna take your chances and risk getting all 10 of those years?"

Intern winced at the thought of sitting in any sort of prison for 10 years, they were far to scrawny to be able to handle that, and anomalies were known for lurking in them. They wouldn't last a week.

"Fine. What do I need to do."

Officer Duckman's beak curled into a smirk, "we need any information you can give us on this man right here." He pushed a photo across the table. As the Intern looked at it they felt a chill slither down their spine.

It was Barney.

"Why?" Intern glanced up at Officer Duckman, trying to look as relaxed as possible.

"He's a deranged serial killer that we've been hunting for a while now, if you can provide us any information on him it would be a great help."

Intern glanced back at the photo, then to Officer Duckman. They really didn't have much of a reason to vouch for him, besides he was the reason they were in this mess to begin with. But at the same time, Intern felt loyal to him, if not for that second coffee machine they would've lost their sanity plenty of times before. Maybe it was time to return the favor.

"Do you have any other copies of this paper?" Intern asked, a plan slowly forming in their head.

"I'm not to sure why that matters..."

They looked from the paper to Officer Duckman one more time, before reaching as far as they could and snatching the paper. They smiled a bit before they shoved it into their mouth and swallowed it.

The room was dead silent for a few seconds. mostly because Officer Duckman was far to astonished to even pronounce a word. His bill hung open as he stared at Intern, his eyes wide and unblinking before he finally managed to sputter out some words: "W-What the fuck."

Suddenly Officer Duckman shot up from his chair, Intern flinched, but he didn't lay a hand on them.

"What's wrong with you?"

"Tasted like coffee."

Officer Duckman couldn't do much but stare back, completely bamboozled by what just happened, his superior was going to chew him out for this and it was all Intern's fault.

"Well now you have a charge for obstruction of justice to!" He scoffed, storming out of the interrogation room, "Don't worry, I'll make sure you feel every one of those years." He snarled before eh slammed the door shut, leaving the Intern alone. They could feel a worm of regret wiggling up his gut now,(that was a really odd phrase.) maybe this wasn't the greatest idea, but they were getting that federal charge regardless. Besides, it's not like they could go back to working at the hospital after all this anyways.

They let their head fall back, staring up at the roof, waiting for Officer Duckamn to come and take him to a cell.

Officer Duckman walked into the room, although he seemed very disappointed.

"Hey. your free to go."

"What?" Intern's ears perked up and Officer Duckman clicked a key into their handcuffs and clicked them off. They were free.

"How?" They glanced down at their free wrists, they thought the last time they would feel their wrists free from those handcuffs would be in a prison cell.

"Some guy paid your bail."

"Wha- y'know what, whatever,." Intern rushed past the officer and out of the interrogation room, dropping to their knees as they felt the AC hit their face, sweet and utter relief. After spending three hours in that interrogation room, the cheap AC of thee prison felt like a ice cold water on a hot summer day.

They glanced up and spotted Secret Agent eyeing the Intern with a judging gaze. The Intern froze as they realized they were on their knees in front of him. They immediately hopped back onto their two feet, "you paid my bail?"

"Yes."

"Why? I barely talk to you?"

"The hospital needs all the staff it can get," Secret Agent sighed, "now come on, lets get back before I change my mind and tell them to throw you back in there."

Intern wanted to question it much more, it didn't really make sense as to why they would bail them out if just getting a new Intern would be much cheaper than that, but to be honest, they couldn't care any less, they were just glad to be free from that Interrogation room. And to not be going to jail.
