Against The Wind

Summary:

The cold always finds a way in.

Luckily, Agi always knows how to keep it out.

Notes:

I'm not the kind of person who starts shipping a newly introduced character with whoever comes to mind, but all the fanart on twitter did not help at all.........
still, I'm happy to have written the first Teddy/Agi fic either way

I NEED AGI TO BE ON ENGLAND'S TEAM!! AGI HAS TO COME BACK!! I NEED TO SEE HIM AGAIN 😭😭
or at least let Teddy end up on Manshine City too... ueueueueu...

This ended up being shorter than I expected because, like I said, TEDDY WAS LITERALLY JUST INTRODUCED, and all we know is that he considers himself a competent player. Whatever, it was still nice to write this...

Whatever this is.

Work Text:

The noise of the stadium faded behind them the moment they stepped through the main gates. The lights still burned at their backs, washing the concrete in a pale white glow.

The distant murmur of players and staff gradually disappeared as they made their way toward the sidewalk.

The cold air hit them immediately.

A gust swept down the street, lifting dry leaves and sending them dancing around their feet.

The trees swayed with a soft creak, and the wind slipped through every opening it could find, tugging at their jackets and tousling a few loose strands of Teddy's hair.

Agi, walking a couple of steps behind him, glanced up at the treetops before coming to a stop.

“It’s pretty windy today...” Teddy followed his gaze for only a moment.

“Mhm.” To him, it seemed like an unimportant detail.

The dark-skinned man then turned his attention back to his teammate.

Knight’s jacket was only halfway zipped, leaving his neck completely exposed to the freezing air. The wind kept slipping through the opening, yet he didn’t seem to pay it the slightest bit of attention.

Without saying a word, Agi closed the distance between them.

Teddy had barely turned his head when he felt fingers grasp the zipper of his jacket.

“...What are you doing?”

“You’ll get sick.” With a slow, careful motion, he pulled the zipper all the way up, covering his neck.

Then he adjusted the collar with the tips of his fingers, making sure it sat properly before pulling his hand away.

“There.” Teddy looked down at his jacket before meeting his gaze again.

“You didn’t have to.”

“I did. The wind is strong. Getting sick would be a mistake for everyone.” Another gust swept past, sending a few strands of Teddy’s hair into the air, while Agi’s braid swayed sharply with it.

“Mhm. Cheers.” He thanked him, absentmindedly fixing his hair.

Agi simply resumed walking.

“You don't have to thank me. Just try not to go out with your jacket unzipped when it's this cold.”

Knight stood still for a moment before catching up, absentmindedly bringing a hand to the collar of his jacket.

It still seemed to hold the warmth Agi's fingers had left behind.

“Are you taking the tram?” He asked.

“Ah, yeah,” Teddy Replied absentmindedly.

“Me too.”

And there was nothing else to say.

They simply kept walking in the same direction, with the whistle of the wind filling the silence between them.

At that hour, the streets were nearly empty; only the distant hum of passing cars broke the quiet.

When the tram stop came into view a few meters ahead, Teddy absentmindedly reached for the zipper of his jacket again.

It was cold from the air.

Even so, he could have sworn the warmth of Agi's fingers had lingered there just a little longer.

He didn't say anything about it.

He simply adjusted the collar of his jacket a little more before continuing to walk beside him.
