Dear Diary...

Summary:

Sayeru had a secret diary where he wrote about his unrequited pining for his liege, White Star.

But like other "Notice me, senpai" tropes, this one was also doomed to be a case of "Senpai will never notice you". Because that senpai was chasing another kouhai from a rival school.

Notes:

A submission for an event.

Nothing personal against any character.

Work Text:

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

My Liege is cute when we tease him about love.

Because of that cursed oath, he has never had a love interest.

He completely lacks any experience in the matter.

But it does not matter.
Dorph and I can guide him.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

Dorph remarked today that I am already old.
He told me to move on and start a family of my own.

To have children like his arrogant and immature offspring?

Look at Edrich, his second son.
He is such a spoiled brat!

Who would want that?

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

I have no desire to build a family or have children.

But.

But if it were a child with the Liege...

If I could have a child with my Liege...

Just to imagine that, I—

No.
I do not even dare to imagine it.
Not even in my wildest dreams.

My Liege is too good for me.
I am not worthy of him.

But...

I still want him.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

That crazy Mage, Redika, will not shut up about the red-haired hero from the Roan Kingdom's Plaza Terror incident.

He keeps saying how gorgeous the man is. He talks about how his blood boils with excitement at the sight of the man's red hair and red blood, and what he wants to do to that man once he is captured.

What a lunatic.

My ears almost bled hearing all that rubbish coming from his mouth.

I glanced at my Liege, expecting to see a scowl or the usual look of irritation on his face.

But he actually looked... interested?

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

There is a mysterious white-haired priest in the Whipper Kingdom who keeps thwarting our plans. People are even saying he is a holy being sent by the gods.

Who is he?
Where does he come from?

Hmph.
Whoever you are, we will annihilate you for hindering our Liege.

No one stands in my Liege's way.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

Dorph told me to look elsewhere for a love interest.

He recommended Duke Fredo, saying the man has the looks, is wealthy, and is a widower with a well-behaved son. He even suggested that if I married him, I would still be family with our Liege.

Who would want to marry that freaky Vampire?!

I would rather remain single until the day I die!

...

Nobody can ever replace my beloved Liege in my heart...

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

Today, I finally met Cale Henituse for the first time.

The very same Cale Henituse who has constantly terrorised our people, and the bastard who always causes our plans to fail.

He is someone...

Well, I suppose I can admit he is good-looking.
But he is certainly not as handsome as my Liege.

He possesses the same gorgeous red hair as my Liege. I cannot help but wonder why. He and the Liege's current body could not possibly be related, could they?

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

That Cale Henituse.
Everyone wants to protect him.

I had heard rumours about it before, but today I witnessed it with my own eyes. Everyone, indeed, is completely devoted to protecting him. They are all willing to throw their lives away for his sake, just as we are for our Liege.

The Ancient Gold Dragon, a creature that never gave a damn about humans before, cast a shield just to protect him.

That Northern Guardian Knight traitor, Clopeh Sekka, god, he is a total lunatic, looked at Cale Henituse as if he were a god or something.

The Sun God Saint was enchanted by my power. His hands were shaking the moment he saw my light.

Ha! Of course this light power is pure.
This pure light can make the hearts of even the followers of light run wild.

The Saint would probably have run straight to my side, had Cale Henituse not stopped him. He really knows how to ruin the fun, doesn't he?

Cale Henituse, did you see this?

Did you see this pure light power?

I will show you the true might of my strength!

Heh, as expected, that old Ancient Dragon managed to figure out that this is an Ancient Power.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

Cale Henituse seemed to know about the ancient times. I questioned him, but he refused to answer. He merely looked up at the sky, and then shifted his gaze to Dorph.

He definitely knows about it.
But how?

He even knew that Dorph had hidden me inside the darkness.

"It is too late, even if you have figured out our plan now. You are trapped."

That was what I wanted to say to him.
But in the end, they still managed to escape.

Cale Henituse, you will not get away next time!

Date XX, Year XX

Cale Henituse.
Cale Barrow.

How ironic that my Liege shares the same first name as his arch-nemesis.

I once teased my Liege about their shared name, but in truth, I absolutely hate that they have anything in common.

Ever since Cale Henituse appeared, my Liege has had eyes only for him. Whenever our people mention the bastard, my Liege scorns, but then he secretly smiles. It is as if we are talking about his secret crush or something.

I was not always on the front lines fighting the enemies, but I watched everything that happened via the recordings.

I know exactly how excited my Liege becomes whenever Cale Henituse appears.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

At first, I merely wanted to test Cale Henituse.

Now, I have a genuine, burning urge to tear him apart.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

I do not want to think this.
It is truly ridiculous, but I can no longer ignore it.

Is there any Ancient Power in this world that possesses the ability to bewitch people?

Does Cale Henituse hold that kind of power?

Is that why my Liege is so star-struck whenever he sees him?

Did Cale Henituse really use a power like that to bewitch my Liege?

If that is the truth, I cannot let this continue.

I must save my Liege!

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

My Liege... is pining after that Cale Henituse.

Something in me stirs with deep hatred whenever I see him like that.

I want my Liege to look at me, and me alone!

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

If it is not the Roan Commander, it is that Vampire brat.

Lately, if my Liege is not paying attention to Cale Henituse, he is focusing on Duke Fredo's son, Naru Von Ejellan.

Although that Naru looks like a mere child, he is actually well over a hundred years old. He is only younger than me by a few years. He is definitely not a child. He might look cute and obedient, but my instincts tell me he is just as sly as his father.

My Liege absolutely must be wary of him.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

Today, we went to visit that sly Duke Fredo, who suddenly fell ill and unconscious after an encounter with Cale Henituse.

I thought he was incredibly strong. Even my Liege remarked that Fredo was the strongest among everyone in the Endable Kingdom. Who would have thought he would fall so easily after fighting Cale Henituse?

When we arrived at Duke Fredo's room, his son was already inside, crying quite pitifully. Somehow, I did not buy it for a second.

But what I despise most is how my Liege looked affected by those tears. His expression softened as he reached out to pat the brat, coaxing him to stop crying. It did not look like an act to me.

And then—

And then my Liege asked Naru to hug him!

A hug?

I actually had to check my bear ears to make sure I had heard correctly.

My Liege opened his arms wide to embrace the brat.

My Lord, why were you hugging him?
He did not need your warmth!
He is a hundred and fifty-three years old!

Duke Fredo, is this how you raise your son?!
Did you teach him to seduce our Liege?!
How shameless!

I do not know why, but when I saw my Liege hold that brat, my heart felt incredibly painful.

I am right here, my Liege...
Please do not go around hugging other people...

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

My Liege is baking cookies for that Vampire brat.

If I did not know any better, I would think that Naru is the secret love child of my Liege and Duke Fredo. Even with his father out of the picture, he is still completely hogging my Liege's attention.

How can I get rid of him?

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

"As long as Cale Henituse exists, our Liege will never look at you."

Dorph said those words to me again today.

I hate that he is right.

I hate that Cale Henituse is taking every shred of my Liege's attention now.

I hate Cale Henituse.
I want him dead.

Notice me, Barrow...

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

I had a strange dream yesterday.
It was a deeply unsettling one.

In that dream, my Liege had finally won the war and become the absolute ruler of this world. The Roan Kingdom had been reduced to our captive territory, and everyone who had ever dared to oppose us was severely punished.

Every domain was required to offer sacrifices to him.

There were single prayer rooms constructed specifically for those who had hindered my Liege, forcing them to offer up nothing but their own despair as a form of eternal punishment.

That bastard Choi Han always emerged from his chamber in tears, drowning in his own misery. It served him right for refusing to obey my Liege.

But when it came to Cale Henituse...

My Liege always reserved a specific private room for Cale Henituse the night before the day of sacrifice. He would enter that room and spend the entire night locked inside with him... performing actions that I utterly refuse to acknowledge or name. The next morning, my Liege would emerge looking thoroughly satisfied, remaining in an exceptionally good mood for the rest of the day.

My Liege would smile at Cale Henituse every single time their eyes met during the public ceremony.

Why on earth would he do that?

No.

Perhaps my Liege was doing all of that purely to torture Cale Henituse?

He did not actually possess any feelings for the man!

Yes, yes.
That is the only logical explanation.

There is absolutely no way my Liege would ever fall for him. Not even in a dream.

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

I have a feeling that this upcoming war will be exceptionally difficult.

If we emerge victorious, then all is well.
That is exactly what I am hoping for.

But if we do not...

Will I at least get the chance to be by my Liege's side for one last time?

Date XX, Year XX

Dear diary,

This... might well be my last entry.

If this truly is the end...

My Liege.

I...

I want you to know that you are the only one in my heart.

I am entirely willing to follow you once again into the next life.

My heart is forever with you.

Yours forever,
– Sayeru

Rasheel closed the book he had been reading. His eyes filled with sheer mockery.

It was a diary he had picked up while raiding the enemy's base. From the pathetic contents scrawled across the pages, it clearly belonged to the Bear King, Sayeru.

"What a load of rubbish," Rasheel muttered, cursing the book. "This damn bear couldn't even hold a candle to my Cale. He really didn't know the difference between heaven and earth!"

He did not even realise that he had just naturally addressed the human as "my Cale", rather than "our Cale".

Behind him stood Mayor Obante and two other Dark Elves. They stood stiff with fear in the presence of the Dragon. They had accompanied Rasheel to raid this location.

Yet–
Deep down, seeing the diary in the Dragon's hands and hearing him unconsciously stake his claim on Cale Henituse triggered a vivid memory in Obante.

Some time ago, Obante had visited Rasheel's lair to check on it at the Dragon's command. During that visit, he had stumbled upon a diary hidden away in the lair. A scene exactly like the one unfolding before him now.

That diary, obviously, belonged to Rasheel himself.

Although he knew better than to touch the diary, or even worse, read it, for the Dragon would definitely kill him if he ever found out, a twist of fate had somehow led to Obante reading Dragon Rasheel's private journal.

And the contents of that diary...

Today's bullshit!

The Elementals will not stop talking about Cale Henituse this, Cale Henituse that! They keep praising him as a hero, a saviour, a darling, a sweetheart, and whatever else! It's making my ears hurt!

Who is this Cale Henituse, anyway?

Is he really that great?

Whatever the case, he has completely disturbed this great Dragon's sleep!

I am going to make him pay for this.

I'll go out and see for myself just how grand this human truly is!

Listen up, damn paper!

Today, I met that human, Cale Henituse, for the first time.

Huh, he actually has Dragons around him. Dragons! And not just one! One of them is even an Ancient Dragon.

Dragons never bow to a mere human!

Hmph. But I suppose he's not bad.

Appearance-wise, well, he's my type—

Obante stopped his train of thought abruptly.

He felt that remembering any further would bring immediate danger to his life. If the Dragon ever discovered what he was recalling at this very moment, that he had dared to read his private diary, he would be completely done for.

Still–
He could not deny the charm that the Roan Kingdom's Supreme Commander possessed. He could see that even his own great-grandson, Alberu, had a soft spot for Cale Henituse.

...But a Dragon and a human?

Is a relationship like that even possible?

The Mayor quickly decided that it was none of his business to pry into.

Obante watched in silence as Rasheel reduced the Bear King's diary to ashes. The flames consumed the pages while the Dragon continued to curse both its existence and its deceased owner.

If only Sayeru had known the truth...

The gorgeous red-haired man that Redika could not stop raving about, the one that made Sayeru's ears almost bleed with frustration?

That was Cale Henituse.

The mysterious white-haired priest in the Whipper Kingdom, whom the locals revered as a holy being sent by the gods?

That was Cale Henituse in disguise.

And that clingy Vampire brat, Naru Von Ejellan, whom his beloved Liege liked to hug, pamper, and bake cookies for? The one who had broken Sayeru's heart just by occupying the White Star's arms?

That, too, was Cale Henituse.

Every single person who had successfully stolen his Liege's attention right from under his nose was the exact same man.

Notes:

For some reasons, I kept misspelling Sayeru's name as "Sayuri".
