the mortifying ordeal of being known

Summary:

What a strange concept.

Connection.

They had never felt it. Never been understood. And no one had even cared enough to try.

Until… you.

Sometimes, they couldn’t take it. How could you look at them, right in their optics, and say they were lovely? How could you look at them with a smile, a real, genuine one? Not the shudder of disgust that seemed to be the default while looking in their direction. How could you ask their opinion? They are not people, yet you treat them like they are. Why can’t they get enough of it?

It’s mortifying, almost. Yet… they can’t seem to let go of how sweet it feels, now that you’ve given it to them.

"If we want the rewards of being loved we have to submit to the mortifying ordeal of being known" Aka: dca x reader slowburn where you end up knowing them so intricately, that they do not need to say a word. Knowing that when Sun’s hands fidget subtly he is nervous, even if his faceplate doesn’t show it. Being able to gauge Moon’s mood by simply knowing that if he grows a little too still, something is wrong. Knowing how they’re feeling by the subtle ways their body shows it, just like they do for you.

Chapter 1: prologue

Chapter Text

What a strange concept.

Connection.

They understood it, at least on a surface level, the same way you are able to read the definition and understand the words. But never the feeling.

How could they? When they had been treated like objects, property. That is what they are, Property of Fazco.

They are not popular, not even with the children. They are not like Glamrock Freddy, who lights up a room with his presence. Or like Roxanne Wolf, whose cool aura attracts attention from a mile away. They do attract attention, but not the same kind. Sun is annoying, controlling. Moon is creepy, unsettling. At least that is what people say. They are not sure what they are doing wrong.

~~~
The world is a very harsh place.
Things like care have grown, somewhat scarce. Especially for people of the working class. The ones who tend to fade to the background.
You never expected to be cared for.
At least not so intimately, your last encounter with it being back in your childhood days. But you are an adult now, everyone expects you to get by with ease. And for the most part, you do. You aren’t some helpless thing, but…
Doesn’t it feel so nice to be cared for?
And to care in return?
What a sweet feeling, to have someone learn your cues so well that you don’t even need to say a word. That Sun can tell when your shoulders slump and your head is a little too lowered, so he places a hand on your shoulder and says a joke to get your attention.
To any outsider it may look like he is being his usual ‘cheerful’ self (the one that he reserves for the Daycare and the kids he cares for there), but there’s a subtle way in which his thumb rubs along your shoulder and you know he is asking if you’re okay, without saying it.
That Moon places a plate of food in front of you because you ‘looked tired’ (even though he’d rather you just sleep at that moment). But it was because he hadn’t seen you eat that day and could tell by the way you would sometimes clutch at your stomach that you were hungry.
That they know your favorite things, even though you only mentioned it once or twice. That someone cares enough to listen so closely to what you have to say.
What a sweet feeling, knowing them just as intricately. Knowing that when Sun’s hands fidget subtly he is nervous, even if his faceplate doesn’t show it. In being able to gauge Moon’s mood by simply knowing that if he grows a little too still, something is wrong. Knowing how they’re feeling by the subtle ways their body shows it, just like they do for you.
But how could you not notice them? It almost pains you, how no one had bothered to understand them when all they had to do was simply stop and listen.
It becomes quite simple to know someone, when you’ve come to understand the pages that make up the book of their soul so intricately.
You do not care if they are made of metal, if to outsiders, they are Property of Fazbear Entertainment. To you, they are simply Sun and Moon. Sun who jumps in place when excited about something, Moon who loves playing up the dramatics to make you laugh.
