Work Text:
The time after the Law War was peaceful to say the least. Everyone had gone to do their own things with their own sets of people. It was great to not hear that god awful goat horn that Wemmbu began to grown accustomed to.
He didn't exactly know what the others had been doing since the ending of Law as he hasn't talked to them since but he's confident they're all doing perfectly fine. Since the war, Wemmbu and Egg were no longer on the run anymore, no longer criminals. They had the time to actually settle down and build a proper base which they hadn't done in a while actually. Minute had offered to let them stay in the End but Wemmbu declined. He surprisingly liked the idea of building his own home. Plus, he doubted Egg wanted to stay in the End anyway with him being stuck there for so long.
So there he was, outside and standing before the entrance of the huge tree house. He could've settled on a nice house but a tree house was cooler. Carried more aura as Egg would say.
"Dude, I don't know how to make the opening even- It just looks lopsided!"
Wemmbu exclaims, hands placed on his hips as he squints at the architecture.
"Dude don't stress it, it's literally just a tree"
Egg replies, fishing at a small pond Wemmbu had set up a few days earlier. The angel sat on the wooden deck, swaying his legs back and forth as he casts his rod out. Wemmbu quietly scoffs, rolling his eyes a tad. Egg doesn’t understand the needing for things to be even- But to be fair, Egg’s never really been much of a builder so.
The demon-hybrid continues to stand there, tilting his head as he tries to figure out the issue to the entryway.
Suddenly, Wemmbu hears the distinct sound of an elytra soaring through the sky and he immediately pulls his mace out on pure instinct. He turns around, ready to fight, ready to defend Egg-
“Woah- Calm down Wemmbu.”
A voice cuts through and the man looks over to see none other than Minutetech. He blinks, once then twice before laughing as he un-wields his mace.
“Geez Minute, you had me thinking you were so op or something.”
He jokes as the older man chuckles, waving his hand around.
“No, no- I apologize, I should’ve made my presence more known.”
“No dude, it’s fine-”
“How’d you even find us?”
Egg asks, perking up to look at the other. Minute stares at Egg, gesturing a bit in confusion.
“Y-you gave me coords?”
“Oh, yeah I did do that.”
He murmurs and Wemmbu cackles hysterically, running a hand through his hair. Minute laughs along with him, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Why don’t you ever remember anything??”
Wemmbu exclaims, still grinning.
“Dude, I don’t know! I have terrible memory!”
He shouts, stifling a laugh. Minute sighs, shaking his head but the small smile on his lips is still present.
“What are you guys doing anyway?”
He asks, stepping closer to Wemmbu as he stares at the entrance, analyzing the arch. Wemmbu watches his face slowly contort with confusion as he quickly pushes him away.
“Ignore it- I'm trying to fix it"
He says, embarrassed as he looks away. Minute blinks only to chuckle softly.
"It looks great Wemmbu, seriously. You've done all of this by yourself?”
He asks, clearly impressed. Wemmbu nods eagerly before crossing his arms.
“Well yeah because this asshole won't help"
He points out, Egg gasps, taken back as he shoots Wemmbu a glare.
"Correction, you didn't LET me help.”
“Yeah because I asked you to do one thing and you fucked it up instantly!”
“How was I supposed to know you wanted stripped oak and not regular???"
"Because I SPECIFICALLY said strip the damn oak-!”
“Woah, okay let's calm down, no need to get all antsy."
Minute states, trying to ease the other two. It works because at the end of the day, Wemmbu and Egg could never hate each other. Wemmbu sighs dramatically before waltzing over to Egg, leaning on the others head.
"Not my fault he can't build.”
He murmurs, Egg scoffs lightly but doesn't push Wemmbu away. It's all playfulness anyway.
“You've been fishing?"
Minute questions, looking over the two as they perk up,carrying the same expression that Minute can't help but smile at.
"Yeah, you wanna join?”
Egg offers, opening the nearby barrel and pulling out a secondary fishing rod and gesturing it to the other. Minute pauses, staring at the item before shrugging.
"You know what, why not.”
He says, settling down next to the angel before adjusting the rod in his grasp.
“Oh great we have two fishers now."
Wemmbu whines, huffing as he pushes off of Egg and heads back to the house.
“You can fish too.."
Egg coos only to snicker when Wemmbu groans loudly at the thought.
“Absolutely not!"
He shouts, Minute lets out a snort, rolling his eyes.
"He seriously doesn't like fishing..”
He murmurs, Egg chuckles a bit before nodding.
"It's so calming yet he refuses to.”
He adds, his eyes momentarily falling to Wemmbu who continues to fix the entry.
"Right.. It's interesting to see Wemmbu so..immersed in building.”
He mutters, more to himself and less to Egg but the man hears regardless.
"I know, it's nice seeming him find a new hobby. He usually has difficulty finding a continuous activity to occupy himself with"
Egg explains, shrugging a bit as he pulls his rod back, catching an enchanted book. Minute's eyes stay fixated on him, thinking for a moment before speaking up.
“What do you mean?"
Egg's wings flutter slightly, his head wings stretching out a tad before cooping back in.
“Well, Wemmbu needs something to keep him distracted. He needs whatever he's doing to be new, not the same repetitive thing. Almost like a challenge. If it's too easy or too cyclic then he loses interest in it. Building has become his new thing because he can do whatever he wants with it. It's endless which is what piques his interest.”
Egg explains as if it's the most basic knowledge on Unstable. Minute listens carefully, noting each and every word that Egg utters out. He can't help but find it admirable how much Egg knows about Wemmbu. Each time the three of them hangout, it leads to Minute learning something new about the demon hybrid.
And that's another thing. Egg and Wemmbu are both best friends yet they're complete opposite when it comes to their species. And yet despite that, they still remain close friends.
“You're a good friend, y'know Egg?”
The angel visibly perks up, his wings stretching out as it wraps over Minute's figure. His eyes widen a bit before softening as he leans into the embrace. Very little does Egg ever do this so he will be taking full advantage of this.
“Mm, I know."
He replies with too much confidence as Minute laughs.
"Dalright-”
“Dude, you say that way too much!"
Egg exclaims, making Minute raise a brow.
"What? No I don't-”
“No, you literally do! So much so everyone says it because of you”
Minute does a double take, looking at Egg with pure, utter confusion.
“Really?"
He questions, Egg nods instantly in response.
"Yes dude! You're like a mama bird, whatever you say, other birds repeat.”
Minute snorts at the analogy, unable to contain his laughter as he buries his face into his hands.
“Dude, oh my god, he's literally the biggest bird-!"
Wemmbu chirps as he giggles from afar
“He is! Dude, the Law Fight?? People who barely interacted with this guy just started saying dalright like helloo??"
Egg shouts, grinning widely. Minute can't help but continue to laugh, surprised by the concept. Has he really never noticed??
The laughter soon dies down thankfully because Minute’s ribs were starting to hurt.
The air runs quiet- but not tense nor discomforting in any sort of way. It’s peaceful.
The sun peeks through the leaves, leaving patches of sun rays that reflect gently against the water.
The heat radiates off of Egg’s wings, seeping into his feathers. He basks in it, letting out a small contented sigh. He hasn’t realized how much he’s missed this peace until now. It’s great, not having to fight, run or just be constantly in a fight or flight state.
It was nice just getting to relax and fish..

“OH MY FUCKING GOD I GIVE UP!”
Wemmbu’s voice cuts through, interrupting the once quiet atmosphere as Egg sighs. A few seconds pass and he can hear the distant footsteps growing closer. It’s not long before Wemmbu sits on his other side, curling up at his side. Egg chuckles, wrapping his other wing around the other, bringing him into an embrace.
“Still can’t figure out the doorway?”
Minute asks, Wemmbu huffs, grumbling something incomprehensible to them. It takes awhile for things to relax once again but it happens. Egg continues to fish, Minute fixates on the pond whilst Wemmbu swings his feet. And as much as Wemmbu itches to do something- To get up, build, fight, anything- He instead stays seated. He simply sits there, letting his mind wander and pick up things he’s never noticed before.
Like the bracelets tied around Egg’s wrist, worn out yet still looking just as pretty when Wemmbu first made it. Or the way Minute’s long ears flick at any small sound.
It’s nice, Wemmbu thinks to himself. It’s nice not having to fight and be so bloodthirsty. He knows Egg’s tired of it, he knows Minute hates the idea of it. And in all honestly, Wemmbu’s sort of done with it. With the amount of bloodshed he’s experienced and inflicted the last couple months- It’s been draining. Not that he doesn’t like fighting- No never, He’ll always love fighting, especially with Flame. He keeps it interesting, plus Wemmbu likes fucking around with him by saying some snarky comment.
The point is that, Wemmbu enjoys fighting but he’s slowly starting to realize that his life doesn’t need to be centralized by it. Not like how Flame has his life.
And he’s okay with that.
And he knows that Minute and Egg enjoy that idea as well.

His stomach however unfortunately ruins the mood as it growls loudly, causing him to whine.
“I’m hungry..”
He mutters, resting his head on Egg’s shoulder.
“I asked if you were hungry when I made food earlier..”
Egg coos out, Wemmbu hums before letting out a sigh.
“I know..”
“I can make you guys food? It’s getting late anyway and I haven’t eaten.”
Minute offers, gaze shifting to the sun casting below the hills. Both Egg and Wemmbu gasp loudly, perking up at the thought.
“Oh my god, yes please”
“Please Minute, I’ve missed your food so bad. I can’t keep eating gapples-”
“Dalright bro-”
“And there he goes!”
Egg exclaims, laughing along with Wemmbu as they hold onto each other. Minute scoffs, rolling his eyes playfully as he gets up, beginning to head towards the tree house. Wemmbu watches him walk off before turning to Egg and grabbing his torso.
“W-wait-! Do not, I just took a-!!”
His words are instantly cut off as Wemmbu throws him into the cold water, cackling as Egg resurfaces, glaring at the other.
“Shower.”
He finishes, voice monotone and evidently annoyed. Wemmbu however, throws his head back, clinging onto his stomach as he laughs like there’s no tomorrow, his dimples becoming more present. Egg stares at his best friend, taking in his happiness that he hasn’t seen in a while. He can’t help but smile back, watching him laugh before grabbing his ankles. Wemmbu’s eyes widen and just before he can process the situation does Egg swiftly pull him through the water. The man gasps loudly, flailing his arms around as he peeks his head over the water.
“You’re such an ass!”
He yells, still grinning as Egg glances off, looking as innocent as possible. Suddenly a splash of water hits his face and he hisses, his head wings curling up as Wemmbu continues to wave his hands around, getting water everywhere. Egg obviously copies the same thing, swinging his arms too as water gets on the two of them, drenching their clothing.
Eventually they tire themselves out, stopping only to laugh with each other.
“Make sure to dry yourselves before dinner”
Minute calls out from inside, the two best friends eye each other before rolling their eyes.
“Okay Dad”
They sing out in unison, snickering.
“Dalright.”
The two let out a holler, tears prickling their eyes as they laugh.
“Oh my god, whys it so funny now” that you pointed it out-"
“I don’t know because he says it so much!!”
.
.
.
.
“Also Wemmbu, you put the staircase wrong that’s why the entrance looks weird.”
.
.
.
“ARE YOU SERIOUS!?”
“Strongest player by the way-”
“Shut up Egg”
