Can't ignore it forever.

Summary:

Ron from "Accounting" has some skeletons in his closet, and you can only ignore the smell of rot pouring out of it for so long.

(How do skeletons rot? I dunno it sounded cooler in my head)

Notes:

Ok so i wasnt drunk writing the first 2 chapters but i most certainly am not sober.

Chapter Text

Ron span around in his chair, in his assigned cubicle, the sounds of printers running and carts being pushed around was all he could hear, just like every other day here. He glanced over to a list of "chores he needed to do" that he received from his boss.

  1. Find their fears.
  2. Figure out what makes them happy.
  3. Report any suspicious behavior.

Ron from "Accounting".

That's what the badge he got from the hospital said on it. He stared at it for a while, something about it was captivating to him. Maybe it was the irony of it all.

"Accounting." Ron scoffed, maybe in another life that's all he was. It was all he wanted to be, a simple accountant, making money, living a nice and calm life off somewhere. But it all went wrong.

He saw some documents he wasn't meant to see, dug a bit to deep into what some companies were funding and found out something rather... Interesting about the anomalies.

He had no choice. It was either he shut his mouth or become an example. Maybe if he just minded his own business he would've been perfectly fine.

But he didn't. And now he knew far to much for his own good, and was nothing but a tool for those higher than him to start more experiments.

Like their newest one. Intern.

They wanted Ron to go over and figure out as much about them as possible, why? He had no clue. But he knew no good would come from it, nothing good came from it the other times.

And just like the other times this should be easy, simple even, figure out what makes them tic, make small talk, find out their fears, then report it back and move on.

But for some reason, it was different. Something with the Intern was different, it's already been 12 shifts and he hasn't made any progress. If anything he's helped the Intern more than anything.

He ran a hand through his hair, "what's wrong with me..."

He was being weird, he shouldn't even be overthinking it this much, but he was, and he couldn't stop.

All he could think about was Intern's seemingly innocent smile every time they checked him in, whenever he'd treat him he didn't do it with even a hint of malicious intent. Everyone else he went for had atleast something off about them, but Intern wasn't like them. They were just... Normal.

Ron let his head fall onto his keyboard, ruining the doc he was meant to be looking over, but in hus current state he couldn't care any less.

He grit his teeth as his eyes started watering, everyone in that hospital had no idea what was truly going on in there, and he was the only person that could warn them, and yet he was powerless. Unless he wanted to die or even worse, become a experiment.

He felt a tear run down his cheek, he couldn't even stop himself from crying, he could feel his own nails digging into his skin as he tightened his hands into fists. What could he really do?

"Damn it..." He muttered, his voice now slightly wavering. But then he heard someone behind him. He quickly whipped around in his chair, but he didn't see anything.

Except for a rat tail quickly slipping out of the cubicle.

He shot up out of his chair, peaking over the wall but not spotting anything. The rat was already gone.

He went to check what the rat took, shuffling through the papers for a while before finally finding what was missing, it was an old document, not to important and heavily redacted thankfully. If it was something important...

He shook the thought out of his head, glancing over at the clock and realizing it was about time he headed back to the hospital. He needed to come around every shift to get the information as quickly as possible.

He sat in his car, checking his face in the mirror, his fur was ever so slightly dampened by the tear, but would need to pay quite a bit of attention to notice it.

He sighed, no matter what, he'd like to live. Even if it came at the expense of the Intern.
