I’m Outta Time

Summary:

“You’re late.” There it was. Ro immediately dropped to the chair next to him. “Hi baby.” He giggled through his words, tilting his head slightly to lean over Mapicc’s shoulder. He scowled, but he didn’t push him away.

“I said you’re late.” Ro hummed quietly, nuzzling his head further to his shoulder. “You know, most people greet their boyfriend before attacking them.”

Or— Five times Ro was running late, and One time Mapicc was the one who was running late

Chapter Text

Mapicc would like to make it known that he loved his boyfriend, Ro. This was very important information. As much as he loved him, Ro’s habit of being late was starting to become a problem.

Ro was the type of person who’d be late to his own funeral. It sounded dramatic, sure, but if anyone could pull that off, it would be the one and only Ro.

Today, Mapicc was at the library. It was surprisingly crowded for a Tuesday afternoon, but what was more surprising was he was even there. Project deadlines really had a funny way to bring out people from their hiding places, which also included himself.

Then again, he remembered why he was here in the first place. His boyfriend, Ro, had invited him to work on it together. He  wasn’t complaining, schoolwork was always a little more bearable whenever Ro was around.

The only problem was that said boyfriend seemed to be running late, once again.

Mapicc glanced at the empty chair beside him, then glanced back at his laptop. He looked at the time, Ro was officially ten minutes late. He wasn’t entirely surprised, he was always late. If one day Ro decided to show up early, Mapicc would probably assume he’d been replaced by a clone.

Mapicc checked his phone. Usually when Ro was late, he would at least text him beforehand. Even when it wasn’t that particularly useful.

Whether it was a “Omw soon,” or a “Almost there, trust” Trust what exactly? Mapicc wasn’t entirely sure.

Mapicc exhaled loudly through his nose, leaning back in his chair. Where was he at exactly? He was already half done with the project. At this rate, he would already be done by the time Ro had arrived. Admittedly, that wouldn’t be the first time that ever happened.

Mapicc absentmindedly fidgeted with his mouse. “Bro.” He muttered under his breath. “Why isn’t bro here yet?” He glanced back at the chair. The empty chair gave no response. How rude, though he couldn’t care less.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the campus, Ro was currently speed-walking his way through the hallways. His laptop was neatly tucked under one of his arms. His eyes flickered to his phone. Fifteen minutes had already passed, how great. A sigh escaped him, he’d promised Mapicc that he would be early today.

Looks like it wasn’t happening. Ro shoved his phone back in his pocket and picked up his pace, he almost tripped over his steps while doing that. He ran a finger through his hair, tugging at his hair slightly.

By the time the library came into view, Ro was already mentally preparing himself for whatever comment Mapicc was about to make this time. He couldn’t blame him, if he was in his shoes he would be really pissed off too.

The library doors slid open quietly. The place was absolutely packed, but that didn’t stop Ro from spotting him almost immediately. Mapicc was sitting in the same table they always worked at, honestly speaking he felt like they had already claimed that table for some reason.

A small smile tugged at the corner of Ro’s lips. There he was.

Mapicc hadn’t noticed him yet, he still focused on his laptop. His brows were furrowed, and he looked like he wanted to shoot laser eyes on the screen at this point.

Ro had made his way over, bumping between tables and students. The moment he finally got close enough, Mapicc looked up. Their eyes met for a few moments. Ro smiled gently, but Mapicc narrowed his eyes slightly.

Mapicc finally looked away from his laptop. “And most people arrive on time.” A grin spread across Ro’s face. “Wow.” He gasped dramatically. “You’re just basically admitting you hate me.” Mapicc looked back to his laptop, his hands wandering back to the keyboard. “Maybe I am.” He could practically feel Ro’s offended stare from behind him.

Mapicc didn’t have to look to know that Ro was making some dramatic expression by now. A quiet gasp came from behind him. Then another, then a third. Mapicc continued typing, not paying attention to Ro in the slightest.

It was clear that Ro was waiting for some kind of reaction. However, Mapicc had already spent enough time around his boyfriend to know that he was fishing for attention. Which was in fact not going to work on him.

A few seconds passed. He let out another offended noise and dropped his forehead onto his shoulder. Mapicc’s hand paused briefly on his keyboard. Not because he was surprised, this was what usually would happen whenever Ro decided he wasn’t gaining enough attention.

He quietly sighed through his nose. “Ro.” A soft hum answered him, muffled slightly against his shoulder. Mapicc glanced sideways. Ro wasn’t moving. He didn’t seem interested in doing so anytime soon.

Mapicc exhaled quietly through his nose.“…Do your homework, dumbass.” There was a pause. Then Ro made a small offended sound once again, like that was the most disrespectful thing he had ever heard in his life. He still didn’t move.

Finally, he shifted just enough his laptop closer. It was a slow, reluctant process. He still didn’t move from Mapicc’s shoulder. Ro didn’t say anything else. He just kept typing, slower at first, then steadily, like he had finally settled into it.

Still leaning against Mapicc’s shoulder. Still acting like it was the most natural thing in the world. Mapicc glanced at him once, briefly, before returning to his own screen. A few seconds passed. Then a few more. The library around them didn’t change—quiet voices, soft page turns, the distant tapping of keyboards.

Ro shifted slightly, adjusting his position without looking up from his work. Mapicc didn’t comment on it. He just kept typing, and Ro stayed. Neither of them moved away.
