Chapter Text

You know. I wasn't expecting to still be alive. I don't remember why- it's a bit fuzzy and it's only growing hazier. But from what I can recall before I lose all memory of it, I was stabbed by someone and then fell off a cliff. I can still feel the sensation of the air flying past me.

But-

"She's waking up, doctor-"

I'm not too sure. I can't remember who it was that stabbed me.

"I'm not sure who-"

Yet, despite it, something is telling me that I know the person who did it.

"-she come from?"

I shot awake, breathing uneven as I took a glance around the room, my brain immediately checking for exits. As I scanned the room, I saw a group of teenagers approach me. I couldn't hear them properly over the ringing but a slimmer guy with brown hair put his hand on my shoulder, seemingly attempting to try and stop me from spiralling.

If I'm here then-

"Where's my sister-?" I immediately asked, coming to my senses. If I was here then Meadow would have to be here, right-?

Right?

"Who's your sister?" The boy asked, eyebrows furrowing.

"Meadow. She has blonde curly hair, purple eyes- don't ask, I'm not sure either- and a bunch of scars all over her, and she acts very detached half of the time-" I say, starting to ramble.

"Who-?" The guy said, "nobody name Meadow has stopped by or been admitted to the hospital. Let alone someone with purple eyes of all things."

"What- no. You're joking," I shot back, breathing unevening further.

No. No. She has to be here. She wouldn't just leave me somewhere unfamiliar, right?

"W-who are you..?" I finally questioned, staring at all of them.

A girl with wavy brown hair nudged the boy, "I told you that'd be one of the first phrases out of her mouth," she smirked, "I'm Hayley. Hayley Woods," she introduced them gestured to the boy who, for some reason, STILL HAS HIS DAMN HAND ON MY SHOULDER, "and that's Leo Cruz."

"I'm the head of Ravens at the Greenhouse," Leo bragged with a smirk. I'm assuming he thought I actually knew what he was talking about-

"Uh- what-?" I quietly asked, confusion in my tone.

"You don't know what the Greenhouse is?" Another guy answered with a questioning tone. He had dark skin and black hair, "Hi. I'm Daniel."

"Uh, nice to meet you. Also no, I don't know what the hell the Greenhouse is," I responded, giving a small wave, "so-" I leaned back, "are any of you going to tell me where the Green house is?"

Then a man with greying hair walked in.

"I believe I have an answer to that. I'm Mr Osmond of the Greenhouse Academy. The Greenhouse is a boarding school where we teach the future generation to be leaders that help shape the world for the better," Mr Osmond explained, "and you, my dear, have a special case. Daniel, Hayley, Leo, would you three mind stepping outside for a second?"

Daniel nodded and left, Hayley and Leo following behind. A huge pit in my stomach formed. I didn't trust this guy at all.

"Now, I apologize for my students. They can be..overwhelming at times but they mean well. Now, what's your name?" Mr Osmond stated.

Oh, right, I hadn't had the opportunity to introduce myself!

"I'm..." I started, trailing off, I couldn't rack my brain to remember. Then it clicked.

My name is Jayden.

"Jayden...my name is Jayden Evers," I quietly answered.

"Okay, Jayden. I have an offer for you. Do you have anywhere to stay?" Mr Osmond asked, noting how nobody came in to check on me once I got admitted into the hospital.

"I..no." I responded honestly. I didn't know where I was, where Meadow had gone, or really where any of them were.

"Okay. Well, would you like to get enrolled in the Greenhouse?" Mr Osmond offered with a warm smile, "we could help you regain your memory, while giving you a place to stay. Besides, I believe you make a great addition because of your wings."

"What-?" I immediately asked. He knows about my wings- shit. No. Dammit. Something is telling me this won't end well..

But given that I had nowhere to go-

"Sure.." I said, accepting the offer, forcing my wings to stay hidden, despite getting acknowledged. But when I tried sitting up further, I winced from a sharp pain in my stomach. Right. I still have a very new injury.

Or- at least I think it's new.

"Hey, uh, sir-? How long have I been out for?" I finally questioned, hoping it hadn't been long.

"A few days, almost a week," he replied gently.

"Okay, now that that's out of the way, how do you know about my wings-?" I asked. People outside of Hermitcraft knowing about my wings is a compromise to my safety.

Despite everything going on, I was hoping to find Meadow soon.

"Right, that. Don't worry, not many others know about them. You crash landed onto Greenhouse Academy campus, bleeding from your stomach, you're lucky we found you. Out there were only a few students, like the trio you had just met, two others, and me. They're the only ones who know and have been sworn to secrecy," Mr Osmond explained.

Wait..

Why was I bleeding from my stomach..?

Because you were stabbed, idiot.

"Uh..okay then.." I replied quietly, "how long until I can get discharged?"

"Tomorrow, I believe," Mr Osmond responded. Then he turned to leave, but at the door he said, "Ms Evers, please try to get some rest."

The next morning, Hayley came in with a girl who had blonde hair and blue eyes. Her name was Brooke Osmond. Mr Osmond's kid. Next to her was a girl with tanned skin, brown hair with golden highlights, and brown eyes. She was introduced to be a girl named Sophie.

The girls were pretty nice, helping me pack and everything.

Brooke tried to make small talk as they walked with me.

"So," she began, her tone curious, "where are you from?"

"Oh, me? I'm not to sure. It's all still blurry," I answered with a nervous chuckle. It was a lie. But how do I explain what Hermitcraft is without sounding insane-??

"Oh, sorry, I forgot you have temporary amnesia-" Brooke started apologetically, making Sophie chuckle a little under her breath.

"No, no, you're fine," I cut in, waving my hand dismissively.

We continued walking but stopped so we could get discharged. The drive to the Greenhouse was awkward.

Sure. Yes. I was social. But also, that's because the people I normally talk to are the other hermits. Not strangers.

We continued to sit in silence as we arrived at the school. Hayley helped me out with a smile. Mr Osmond was there to greet us.

"Welcome to the Greenhouse, Ms Jayden Evers," he stated with a warm smile.
