Work Text:

Parrot sat by the bed, with the candle still glowing beside his drawer, lost in thoughts before a voice cut through.

A strangely familiar voice,

a voice he hadn't heard for a while,

a voice...

...He didn't wish to hear again.

After everything.

But at the same time

A voice he wished to hear again

Even after everything.

He slowly looked up,

And saw him.

His best friend.

Former best friend.

Which he has killed.

"Parrot."

The word hung in the air.

Making Parrot freeze before finally looking up at their face.

But weirdly enough

He couldn't see their face at all.

Was it because he forgot what they looked like?

He was pretty sure that he didn't forget...

Then how come he can't see his best friend face?...

...

What color were his eyes again?...

...

Purple?

Black?

White?

Or blue?...

...

Why can't he remember?

He remembers everything

Then why can't he remembers how do their face looks like anymore?

Why can he remembers how his others friends looked like and not his best friend's one?...

Why can't he?

Why?

Why?.

Why?..

WHY?...

...

"Parrot. You should rest, it's already late"

The voice rang in his ears

That made parrot snap out

and before he could say anything, the person in front of him spoke first.

"You should take it easy upon yourself, you are already working hard enough."

He blinked a few times

And lowered his head

"I can't... I'm not even trying my best if the people still hates me, █████."

The figure didn't move

But parrot continued

"I don't understand what I'm doing wrong! I tried everything... And the people still hates me no matter what I do!"

The figure didn't say anything, just stood there staring at Parrot.

The silence stretched uncomfortably

As Parrot brought his knees up his chest and hugging them.

Then the avian asked

"do you think I'm a great king, █████?..."

Parrot asked while looking at █████' face, waiting for their answer.

"Of course you are, Parrot."

The figure continues

"They're just too blind to see that you're a great king."

Parrot stared before feeling wetness on his cheeks

When did he start tearing up?

Doesn't matter.

"Then... How can I make it visible, █████?..."

The figure didn't answer

...

Then they finally spoke

"You'll have to figure it out yourself, Parrot."

The figure moved closer

"You should never give up. You never did. Why now? After all this effort, why give up now?"

Parrot buried his face in his arms

"I just don't know if this is the best for the server, for all of us..."

Parrot sniffled before continuing

"It just feels wrong, it feels so wrong that I just don't know what to do anymore..."

...

"...everything I do just feels wrong, █████..."

...

"You're strong, Parrot. I know that cause I knew you. And the Parrot I knew would never say this..."

...

"..you should just trust what your guts tell you to do."

Then, Parrot looked up from his arms

But by then

█████ already has disappeared.

Silly him

Why did he think he would see them again once he lifted his head?

How silly of him to think of that...

...and to wish his best friend never died in the first place

To wish that he never had to kill them in the first place

To wish he never make them worried like this

To wish he looked back once

To wish he...

...

...Tried to understand what █████ felt everytime he did something reckless

...

But in every universe they'll always end up dead.

No matter what.

This was always their fate.

Always has been.

And never will change.
