They were equals. That was what Velvette had signed under. Therefore, nothing Vox told her to do was an order. It was a suggestion. One she could decide on her own whether to follow or not.
And she was used to him giving her orders. He did it to everyone. It was simply the unspoken rule she could “disobey”. Because he couldn’t order her. Not really.
This amount of insult he kept piling up should have had her mouthing back. Except it hadn’t worked the last time she had. He pushed it aside.
Somehow the words slipped from her mouth.
