Snowed In

Summary:

A massive snowstorm has hit Morioh, and Okuyasu has no idea what to do with his sudden day off from work since Tonio's will be closed. Thank goodness his boyfriend is here to keep him company in the warmth of their apartment.

Notes:

For today’s prompt, I chose “seasonal”. I wanted to imagine the sweet boys after years together, living in that state of partnership that’s comfortably secure and lazy (they even got a kitty!). Although it’s very briefly mentioned that indeed this adult couple does have sex, it’s very much a safe for work fluff piece. I might do more little vignettes in this universe… it’s very relaxing to write.

Anyways, here goes it!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Okuyasu was always the first to wake up, despite 9 AM not being a particularly early time to start getting ready for the day. This was a given, since Josuke was so prone to sleeping in that he’d have to be dragged out of bed even when he had something to do. As he was always careful to do, Okuyasu got out of bed as quietly as he could so as not to wake his boyfriend, stretched, and went to the kitchen for a cup of milk tea.

The morning was pretty standard until the phone rang.

“Hello?” Okuyasu prepared for it to be a wrong number but found himself jolted when it was Tonio on the other end.

“Okuyasu, ciao! I wanted to tell you not to come in today, although I am sure you’ve figured out we wouldn’t be open today.”

“Huh? How would I know that already?” Okuyasu searched for any possible reason Tonio’s would be closed, came up with nothing, then cursed himself for being so stupid.

“The blizzard, Okuyasu! You, planning on going outside in that! Ma, che sei grullo?”

“Uhh…” Okuyasu had no idea what that Italian could possibly mean, and therefore ignored it. “There was a storm?”

“There is a storm. And it won’t be stopping for hours. Look outside, mio polpetto!” Okuyasu protested when he learned that Tonio had been calling him ‘my meatball’ in Italian, but it had grown on him to the point that he smiled a bit when hearing the nickname this morning.

“Okay Tonio. I guess I’ll be comin’ in tomorrow, then?”

“We’ll see how the weather is then, Okuyasu. Ciao!”

Once Tonio hung up, Okuyasu returned to the bedroom to get a peek out the window. He lifted the blinds, careful to stay out of sight since he was only in his briefs, which he always slept in. The city was bathed in blindingly bright snow, and it just kept falling. He could barely make out the buildings on the other side of the empty street through the curtain of constantly-falling flurries. This really was some blizzard.

Josuke stirred in bed, his dark hair a tangle against the pillow. “Mmm, what was all that, Oku?”

As Okuyasu sat on the edge of the bed, their cat Mochi emerged from beneath and rubbed her little grey head against his bare calves. “There’s a big snowstorm. Real big. Tonio said I don’t have t’come in today.”

“Ooh, so we both have today off?” Josuke lazily rolled over to Okuyasu’s spot on the bed, tangling the sheets he was under in the process. Upon reaching his boyfriend, Josuke nuzzled affectionately against Okuyasu’s bare side. “Come back to bed then.”

“Well, I had t’get groceries today too…”

“It’s too shitty out for that. Come onnn, sleep is good. Bring Mochi too.”

“Okay babe, I guess.” After Josuke rolled over to make room, Okuyasu set down a purring Mochi onto the bed and clambered under the covers. After years of taking care of his dad and being left to essentially finish raising himself since Keicho died, Okuyasu wasn’t used to days off. In fact, he felt a tinge of guilt over getting back into bed at all.

Josuke, on the other hand, didn’t seem to notice. As Mochi curled up into a ball near the foot of the mattress, Okuyasu’s boyfriend was already cuddling up to his side. The two young men, both only in their underwear underneath the warm, comforting pile of blankets, became a tangle of legs and arms and broad chests. Eventually, Okuyasu found comfort in resting his head on the crook of Josuke’s arm and fell asleep much more quickly than he’d anticipated.

Okuyasu was awoken at noon by his boyfriend, wearing sweats but with his hair up in a pomp despite knowing he wouldn’t leave home, shaking his shoulder. “Babe, where are the cup noodles? I know we have some.”

“Mmph.” Okuyasu rubbed at his sleepy eyes, a bit surprised that for once Josuke was the one waking him up. “Wit’ the cups. We ran outta room in the pantry, remember?”

“Oh yeah, duh. Thanks man.” As Josuke plodded into the other room, Okuyasu got a look at the clock and knew it’d be best to join him out of bed.

After putting on some pajama pants and a ratty old t-shirt he’d had since high school, Okuyasu joined Josuke, who was pouring boiling water from a kettle into two Styrofoam cups of cheap ramen. “I know I’m not supposed to, but I love this shit. Making you one too… figured you’d get up.”

Josuke’s sweet smile as he offered up the steaming noodles three minutes later left Okuyasu melting. Years together and Josuke could still manage to do that to him.

“Whaddya wanna do now?” Okuyasu asked through a mouthful of mushy, overcooked ramen.

“What do I want to do? I want to do nothing.” Josuke grinned resolutely. “I’ll be on the couch if you’re up to watch a movie, babe.”

They turned on an old Christmas special, which they watched with Okuyasu’s head on Josuke’s wide chest. As the credits rolled, neither had the energy to even reach for the remote; Josuke didn’t move out of laziness, but Okuyasu didn’t move because he had begun to zone out.

“What’s up? You’re in outer space.” Josuke noted while playing with Okuyasu’s slightly greasy, unwashed hair. Not that either of them minded… they were far past caring about appearances around each other.

“I was jus’ thinkin’… what if I was at the old house during this storm? What if dad was?” Okuyasu recalled his last residence in vivid detail: the boarded windows, the lack of insulation or electricity, the creaking floors. Winter was hell in that place, but today would’ve been unbearable.

Josuke drove his thoughts back to the present. “You’re not at that house. You’re here in our only-kinda-shitty apartment.”

“I’m jus’ lucky I met you, then.”

Expecting the romantic sentiment to be reciprocated, Okuyasu scowled at Josuke’s response of “Yeah you fuckin’ were! I’m amazing.”

“Oh, fuck off!” Okuyasu yelled with a playful punch to his lover’s shoulder.

“He wants a fight then, huh?” Josuke’s eyes gleamed with determination and laughter as he grabbed at Okuyasu’s hands.

The two of them play-wrestled until the static of the television became too much to bear. Then they returned to their bedroom, made love slowly and lazily, then fell asleep together for a third time since last night. Okuyasu couldn’t have asked for a better day off.
