Work Text:

“I’m a beta.” Ongsa had blinked, eyes wide as the warm, easy scent of apricot blooms and mandarin oranges intensified. It was clear to him that the true alpha was pleased that he hadn’t run from him like before, and as much as it confused him he didn’t understand how the alpha seemed to want him more?

“Exactly.” Nakhin grinned like he understood something that Ongsa didn’t. What was he supposed to do with that information?

He guessed it wasn’t really information but just the alpha’s opinion. Ongsa was standing behind the counter, wiping it down like he hadn’t done that ten minutes ago. The only customer was the said true alpha as he sat sipping his latte slowly as Ongsa had been the one to make it for him. Ongsa tried to not blush at being caught several times looking at him. The smirk on his lips getting impossibly deeper after each one. Ongsa really shouldn’t be hard on himself. Nkahin Devathirirat was more than easy on the eyes with his height, pale skin, and dark eyes.

“You can do more than stare, sweetheart.” Nakhin chuckled as Ongsa felt himself flush a deeper shade of red. Who said that to a stranger? Besides, why did he feel comforted by his sudden affection? He’d never felt this sense of calm with a potential partner, not even his ex - who he’d broken up with two years ago. There’d been constant butterflies in his chest swarming which should have been a sign.

Rude. Ongsa huffed before stilling, seeing who his new customer was. Well in his doomed case, two. Cole and Kant. If he had a scent it would have soured instantly. There was no way he was going to serve his ex and the asshole’s best friend. “Leave.” He managed to get out smoothly as a delicate omega stepped in. The very definition of everything that Cole had told him he lacked. A clear bite mark high and proud on the omega’s neck.

“That’s no way to act for paying customers besides my Ter here wants one of your famous cookie crumble cupcakes.” Cole toothily grinned.

No you narcissistic prick, you found out where I finally opened my cafe and came here to make me serve your omega. Ongsa inwardly fussed, rolling his eyes. “I won’t serve any of you anything. Get out of my cafe and don’t come back.”

“I told you he’d be petty like this., Cole.” Kant scoffed, “All because you dumped him and it’s been…what two years? Such a petty person.”

Across the room, Nakhin lowered his cup to observe. He hadn’t missed where his normally sweet beta raised his hackles. It was clearly a defence against the once that’d followed. From the conversation he learned that the one named Cole was Ongsa’s ex. An ex that clearly was a piece of work. Well he had no intentions of letting his future mate have to deal with such people.

“He didn’t stutter when told you lot to leave.” Nahkin spoke up, his voice deeper as he tapped into his true alpha drawl. He sat down his cup as their heads swiveled in his direction. He waved his hand, that he had rested over the back of the chair beside him so that his two discrete guards didn’t come into the cafe.

“And who are you?” Cole glared at him, clearly not understanding the differences between them. They were both alpha’s but that’s were the baht stopped. “Stay out of our bus-”

“You’ve been told to leave. I implore you to do it before the opportunity to freely do it is stripped from you.” Nakhin interrupted him. He allowed some of his true alpha pheromones to seep from him. A wonderful curl of delight settled in his chest as both alphas eyes widened. Cole’s grip on his mate tightened as he tugged him towards the door.

“Who wants to eat at this dump anyway?” Cole huffed as the other two joined him. The door heavily clanking shut.

“I could have handled that.” Ongsa sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“Of course you could sweetheart, but why should you have to when I am here?” Nakhin easily gave, releasing soothing pheromones. His mate was a beta so it didn’t help like it would a fellow alpha or omega who was more susceptible to pheromones. Nakhin got up, approaching the bar. “And I want to be, in anyway that I can,”

He really should watch his words. Ongsa thought, because what if he got too used to him then the alpha realized he wasn’t worthy? They were strangers. How could he be so sure that Ongsa was the one for him? He didn’t get it but couldn’t help but want to open his heart just to see if he could really be the one.
