Vampire Hunters

Summary:

Most mistakes are negligible in the grand scheme of things, but some can land us in big trouble.

Anya makes the mistake of getting caught feeding in the dark. Now there is a group of students hellbent on removing the vampire.

Notes:

And now the secret third member of the Vampire!anya fic shows their face >:)

Also happy SxF Saturday everyone!

Thank you to Hannah for the beta and organizing our ideas into this series

Work Text:

Anya knew she shouldn't be sneaking around on the Eden property so late. It was maybe one AM, she didn't know. She was hungry and desperate; she had gone to Eden assuming Damian was in his dorm and could give her some blood, but just her luck, Damian wasn't there. So, plan B it was.

Anya gracefully jumped over the gate to the Eden cattle enclosure and scanned the area for prey. Looking around, she determined that if she tried the cows or horses, they could easily overpower her if they woke. She wasn't confident in her unnatural strength, mainly because she was hungry, and she was strongest when not starving. The pigs or sheep would be the best option, as the chickens wouldn't have enough blood. She opted for the sheep because it would be fluffy like a pillow.

"Sorry, little guy," she whispered.

Having chosen a target, Anya positioned herself to best have her meal, then she dug in, biting down hard on the sheep's jugular. The animal yelped, but Anya was quick to bash its head in with her fist to put it back to sleep; she couldn't have anyone hearing her. Warm blood gushed from the veins and into Anya's mouth and all over her face and clothing. She relished in the feeling—it wasn't as good as, say, Damian's—still, it was heaven when she was so hungry.

She wasn't even five minutes before she heard a gasp from behind her. Anya's head snapped around to see a student standing frozen, horrified. Telepathy told her that the poor girl came to investigate the sheep's yelp. It also told Anya exactly what she looked like in the eyes of the student. Two green orbs in the dark, a humanoid figure covered in blood, a lamb sucked dry, scary stuff.

The situation was similar to how Damian found out, but Anya didn't know this girl; she didn't know if she'd tell others. She made a decision, ran into the woods, and so she bolted past the girl, surely giving her a heart attack.

The next day, Anya arrived to find a crowd of students had gathered in the courtyard. Anya approached to find Becky standing just outside the crowd.

"What's this all about?" Anya asked.

"Apparently, someone was attacked by the farm," Becky explained, sounding uninterested, "right now they're listening to Connie declaring that she'll be the detective."

"I see." Anya smiled awkwardly, remembering the night before.

Suddenly, Anya felt a tap on her shoulder from behind, "Come see me by the building."

"Sorry, Becky, I need to go do something…"

"Going to see your boyfriend?"

"He isn't-" Anya stammered, "I'm leaving."

Damian, of course. Anya didn't even need to see him or read his mind; she knew exactly what he'd want to say. Alas, she went over towards where he wanted to see her. Damian leaned against the wall, arms crossed.

"Seriously, Anya," he sighed, "you're better than this."

"In my defense, you weren't in your dorm," Anya frowned.

"You couldn't get the blood in the fridge?" the scion raised an eyebrow.

"Your window was locked; I had to improvise."

"So you attacked a student?"

"No," Anya responded, insulted that he'd believe the rumors, "I drank from a lamb, but I was caught, so I ran."

Damian frowned, "You are so… look, we need to make sure this doesn't get pinned on you."

Just then, Connie popped up, "Hey, Anya! Damian…"

"What did I do?!" Damian exclaimed.

"You know what you did…" Connie glared at him. Then she turned back to Anya, "Anyway, I'm not sure if you heard, but I am investigating the attack from last night."

"Okay," Anya raised an eyebrow.

"You are an incredible detective in your own regard, and your insight is invaluable," Connie went on, "I would like you as my right hand on my task force."

"We can use this to sabotage the operation," Damian thought, "on second thought it's too risk-"

"I'll join," Anya interrupted his thoughts, "you know I love a good adventure."

"Great!" Connie smiled, "I got a pass from Henderson, so if you'll follow me, we'll head over there."

With that, Connie led Anya away, leaving Damian to worry. Anya was brought to a group of her friends, all wearing official laminated badges.

"Anya, welcome to the Strange Occurrences Investigation Task Force." Connie smiled, then she turned to clip the badge to Anya.

On the SOITF—which was a terrible acronym, by the way—were Arnold, Tertius, and George.

"George, why are you here?" Anya asked, "I would have expected you to be… doing anything else?"

"Henderson promised us all Stella if we could solve the case in ten days," he explained.

"That's right!" Connie smirked, "There are stellas on the line, so let's get moving."

Connie led the way as the group made their way to the farm. As they walked, they got to talking about what the beast could be.

"I would be willing to bet it was a wolf," Arnold reasoned, "it makes the most logical sense."

"But isn't there dogs for that purpose?" George asked.

Anya didn't remember seeing any dogs that night; if there were dogs, she'd have been caught much faster.

"You are all forgetting that the creature was described to be humanoid," Connie interjected, "and if it were supernatural, the dogs would not have noticed it."

"And what kind of creature are you suspecting?" Tertius asked.

Connie subtly hinted at her open bag, full of vials of water and garlic, "I think we might have a bona fide vampire."

"We can't be sure just yet," Anya interjected.

"You're right, we need to check the crime scene."

At last, they arrived at the farm. Before them was the body of a lamb, long dead from blood loss. Two punctures were located on the jugular of the poor thing. Connie crouched down to observe the entry holes.

"Looks like I was right," Connie chuckled, "this is exciting."

"So we know it's a vampire. Now what?" George raised his mono-brow.

"We figure out just who this vampire is," Connie answered.

"And?"

"And we vanquish them…"

Anya gulped. She wasn't ready to be vanquished! She still had so much to live for. She never even got to kiss Damian as a way to shut him up!

"It would be safe to assume that the culprit is a student or staff member," Arnold figured, "if they were not a student, they'd likely have chosen to feast on a pet or easier prey, thus it was convenient for them to attack the lamb."

"That's still over two thousand students," Anya pointed out.

"But this occurred at night, meaning that the vampire likely sleeps here, so they are either dorm staff or a dorm student," Arnold added.

"We can ask the witness if she saw how tall the vampire was," Tertius pitched in, "this way we can figure out if it was a student or a teacher."

"The witness also stated that the vampire's eyes were green," Connie continued, "so, that definitely makes the search smaller."

"So how will we smoke em out?" George asked.

"Anya will use her super insight to decide if a person is lying, then we will ask them questions," Connie figured.

"That would take too long," Arnold objected, "we're still dealing with over a hundred people, and Forger is still human, she's bound to make a mistake."

Not really human, but Anya wasn't going to correct them. Wasn't it Sun Tzu who said not to interrupt your enemy while they make a mistake? Anya couldn't remember…

"What do you suggest?" Connie argued.

"Holy water can't be diluted," Arnold explained, "just pour some into the water supply."

"Vampires don't drink water, dumbass, they drink blood!"

"They'd have to drink water to blend into the population."

"Do we really need to kill the Vampire?" Anya asked.

"Well, of course," Tertius answered, "if we don't kill it, it may hurt a fair maiden such as yourself."

"But what if the vampire is a fair maiden?" Anya argued back.

Tertius didn't have a good comeback for that, so he kinda just shut up.

"Think of it less as us killing the vampire and more like putting it out of its misery," Connie reasoned. Then she changed tune, "The good news is that it's going for animals right now, if the vampire gets a taste of human blood, we'd be in a lot more danger."

Sure, human blood was a lot better than anything else Anya could find, but it wasn't that good. She couldn't help but feel that Connie was blowing it out of proportion.

"I'll ask around for witness testimony, I'll also open our task force HQ," Connie explained, "Arnold, you go and collect samples from the bite marks."

"Why me?" Arnold asked.

"Because you disagreed with me," she smiled, "and if the vampire left DNA behind, we'll be golden."

"A DNA test will take weeks," Arnold argued.

"Well, at least we'll know who it is or know what vampire spit is made from," Connie figured, walking away.

That evening, Anya decided to hang out in Damian's dorm. Of course, that wasn't allowed, but Anya had a system. She had several hiding spots in Damian's dorm. She didn't have to worry about security cameras because they couldn't see her on camera. She wished she could have reality manipulation or psychic manipulation in case someone saw her, or maybe the power to become a bat, like vampires had in media. She never tried, but she didn't even know where to start with something like that.

Anyway, the vampire gracefully scaled the building to the third floor, where Damian's room was, then she opened the window and plopped herself onto his bed, not caring that he was in the middle of changing.

"Nice of you to leave the window unlocked this time," Anya joked, causing Damian to jump.

"Jesus, Forger!" He exclaimed, trying to cover himself. He was wearing nothing but boxers. "You've got to knock first."

"I figured you'd hear me come in." Anya shrugged.

"Well, I didn't," Damian shot back, "now turn around until I'm changed."

"Aw, but I wanna see," Anya whined.

"No."

"Fine," Anya rolled her eyes, turning around. I'll just read his mind

"Get out of my head, Forger…"

Damn it

At last, Damian was done and allowed Anya to hang out freely. The girl was positively excited to do anything; she got like that at night. Damian opened his mini fridge and pulled out a bag of O+ he had kept since the blood drive he and Anya organized.

"For you," he tossed her the bag and a straw so that she didn't make a mess.

"No biting today?" she frowned.

"I have homework due tomorrow," Damian explained, "someone made me procrastinate."

"Whoever that was must be truly a villain," Anya joked, "how was your day?"

"Filled with anxiety, how about you?" Damian asked.

"It seems like the task force is focusing on dorm students, so I am in the clear for now," Anya responded, poking the straw into the bag and then sucking on it, "yummy!"

"What do they plan to do with you if they catch you?" Damian questioned further.

"I think they’ll kill me," Anya thought back, "I have trouble remembering things that happened in the day, ya know."

"Anya!" Damian exclaimed.

"What?"

"This is serious! They plan on killing you," Damian attempted to present the danger Anya was in.

"But they won't because I am pointing them in the wrong direction," she explained.

"That still leads them to killing someone," Damian argued, "steak to the heart will kill anyone, not just vampires."

Steak to the heart failed to kill Anya when the scientists tried that, but Damian had a point.

"I'll stall them then; they only have nine more school days before they have to go back to class," Anya explained.

"It's still risky; we need a backup plan," Damian determined. "I can't let you die."

"Why, afraid you'll miss me?" Anya joked.

"Afraid I'd lose my mind… I need her…"

Hearing his thoughts, Anya got serious, "I'll figure something out…"

"Good," Damian sighed in relief.

They sat in silence for a moment as Anya sipped her blood drink before she broke the silence.

"I know you care about me," Anya smiled softly, "It's sweet… I'm sorry I make it so hard, though."

"That's just the Anya charm, right?" Damian smirked.

Anya let out a sweet giggle, the kinda giggle that only came from someone in love, "Sure is!"

They enjoyed each other's company for a little while longer before Anya determined it was time for her to go.

"Whelp, it's been fun, but I gotta rest some time," Anya frowned. She hated the fact that she had to sleep at night.

"Sounds good, see you tomorrow." Damian waved as Anya hopped from the window, silently disappearing into the night.

The next day, Anya arrived on campus swiftly, flanked by Becky, who matched Anya's pace with Anya to talk to her.

"Hey, Anya, I missed you yesterday," Becky joked, "where were ya?"

"Oh, hey, Becks," Anya smiled, "Connie put me on her task force."

"And not me? I'm insulted," Becky melodramatically swooned.

"You hate creepy stuff like this; they think it's a vampire," Anya figured.

"No thanks, the only people that can suck my blood are hot ones," Becky laughed, "good luck with that."

Then Tertius flanked Anya on her left, the opposite side of Becky.

"Lady Anastasia, I have been instructed to take you to the task force headquarters," Tertius bowed, "please do follow me." Upon seeing Becky, he bowed once more, "Good morrow, Lady Rebecca"

"Well, sounds like they need me, I'll see ya later, Becky," Anya smiled.

"See you," Becky smiled back.

Tertius led Anya into a room connected to the library. In the room, the rest of the SOITF sat at a meeting table as Connie stood in front of what looked to be a murder board covered by a tarp.

"Good to see ya, Anya. Sit down," Connie pointed to a chair, then she unveiled her murder board.

It was extensive, detailed, and everything was cataloged. In the center, number one suspect: Becky Blackbell.

"That can't be," Arnold exclaimed.

"You're right, her name is actually Rebecca," Tertius agreed.

"No, Becky can't be the vampire because we know the vampire had green eyes," Arnold pointed out.

"Perhaps, but it's equally possible that our witness was crazy," Connie argued.

Arnold facepalmed, "And what evidence do you have against Becky?"

"Seven years ago, I saw vampire bite marks on her neck," Connie reasoned, "even if she isn't the vampire, she definitely is a vampire."

"Is there any other evidence we gathered?" Anya asked.

"Oh yes," Connie smiled, "the Vampire is about a hundred fifty-two centimeters tall, that's what the witness described."

"Well, Becky is five foot four," Anya pointed out.

Everyone in the room looked at Anya as if she were speaking another language.

The pinkette sighed, "I think that's about a hundred sixty centimeters."

"A hundred sixty-two actually," Arnold corrected.

Anya frowned at him. If he's so smart, he can do the damn conversion himself. Then turned back to Connie, "Once again, that's another detail out of place."

"Becky's also a commuter," Arnold argued.

"As I said," Connie responded, now more defensive, "she may not be the vampire, but she is one. I would bet she was the one to turn our vampire."

Technically, the other way around, but then again, Anya couldn't turn anyone.

"We should interrogate her," Connie figured, "Tertius will get her."

"I would suggest that we should split up and pursue other possibilities," Arnold pitched in, "Becky may be just a red herring, especially since nobody can back up your claim."

"And what will you do?" Connie asked.

"Forger and I will ask around the dorm students," he offered, "if anyone snuck out, they might have seen."

"Doubtful, vampires are sneaky," Connie argued.

"Clearly not sneaky enough, lest we wouldn't be here," Arnold crossed his arms.

"Fine, you and Anya go; we'll meet back here at seventeen-hundred hours."

With that, the group split up. Connie and Tertius went to interrogate Becky. Anya was sure she would be upset with her later, but there wasn't much she could do. At the same time, Anya and Arnold split up to question Dorm students, Arnold to the boys, and Anya to the girls.

By five in the evening, the two teams regrouped in the Task Force HQ, all exhausted.

"So how did everyone do?" Connie asked.

"The girls said that they didn't see anything," Anya answered.

"The boys wouldn't talk to me," Arnold admitted.

"And of course we got nothing out of Blackbell," Connie sighed.

"I hated torturing a fair lady like her," Tertius cried.

"Weirdly enough, sunlight didn't affect her," Connie noted, "neither did holy water, which means she likely isn't a vampire."

"So back to square one, I see," Arnold sighed.

"You forgot about me," a voice peeped from the other end of the table.

Everyone looked to see George sitting patiently.

"One of the boys told me that Desmond has a fridge of blood and bite marks," he explained.

Connie's eyes lit up, "If that isn't suspicious, I don't know what is!"

"They also mentioned he keeps his window unlocked," the boy added.

"Which implies that he sneaks out at night," Arnold realized.

"Who would have thought that George would be our MVP?" Connie smiled, "Good job, George."

George lit up at the compliment.

"Sorry, Anya, we gotta kill your boyfriend now," Connie sighed.

"Wait, no!" Anya objected, realizing they were being serious, "The witness said the vampire was five foot, Sy-on boy is five seven."

"Well, it was dark out," Arnold reasoned.

"But he has gold eyes! The vampire has green eyes!" Anya argued.

"Vampires can shape shift," Connie rationalized.

"No," Anya wined, "you can't kill him."

"Sorry, Anya, it has to be done," Connie comforted her.

Anya then realized that almost everyone in this room had a reason to want Damian dead; they were experiencing confirmation bias. But then she remembered that nobody can be killed by sunlight, garlic, or holy water, so he'd be fine… right?

"Can we at least wait until tomorrow?" Anya asked.

"Sure," Connie figured, "we need time to prep. Meeting adjourned."

With that, the team dispersed, but before leaving, Arnold approached Anya.

"You better not warn him we're coming," he whispered, "trust me, it's for the best."

Anya shivered.

Anya figured she wouldn't be able to sleep with all of this on her mind, so she decided to retreat to her safe space. She approached the boy's dorm behind where a particularly climbable section of the wall sat. At this time of night, the sun began to set, creating a wonderful gradient in the sky. The roof of the boys' dorm was slanted severely; luckily, Anya had great balance.

The roof had multiple vents from a newly installed system of climate control system. Anya carefully removed the grate to the ventilation shaft and lowered herself in. Anya was inhumanly flexible and loved tight spaces, so the vents were perfect for her. She crawled all the way to Damian's room, then, after making sure the room was empty, she dropped down from above.

After jumping down, she rolled under Damian's bed, where she had set up a little nook for herself. Under the bed, there was a pillow, a soft mat for her to rest on, and a blanket. She loved this little space; it was comfortable and smelled like Damian, and because Damian didn't know about this spot yet, she could listen to him freely.

Ever since he learned of her telepathy, his thoughts became so guarded; here, he was open and honest. She could listen to his real thoughts and feelings. Hell, she could even hear him talk to his friends.

Generally, it was a nice place to be and unwind, and because her parents mostly trusted her, she could afford to hang out there. She just told Mama that she'd be at Damian's place, which wasn't a lie.

Damian soon entered the room, unaware that Anya was under the bed. What she didn't realize was that he was followed in by Ewen and Emile, so she'd have to be extra quiet.

"Look, Bossman, as far as I know, they think you're the vampire everyone is talking about," Ewen spoke.

"Arnold said their goal was to kill you," Emile added.

"It's fine, I have a gal on the inside," Damian waved them off.

"Forger is great and all, but you'll need to win her over," Ewen reasoned.

"I bet Connie already offered her peanuts," Ewen chimed in.

"Anya won't change sides because it's in her best interest to support me," Damian figured, "besides, they plan to kill a vampire, and I am not a vampire, so I'll be fine."

"But-"

"I need to get ready for bed," Damian sighed, "you two should as well, don't worry."

Rich is coming from Sy-on

When Anya heard the door click, she knew she was now alone with her. She waited until he was in his bathroom in order to show herself. She rolled out from under the bed and then plopped herself on top. She waited patiently for Damian to get out of the bathroom…

Or at least she would have… if Damian hadn't decided to take a shower. Anya, with her unreal hearing, could easily make out the sound of the shower turning on, then shortly after Damian's terrible belting.

Someone ought to tell him he can't hit those notes…

Anya leaned up against the bathroom door; he was definitely in the shower.

Now she could wait for him, be respectful, and all. But she was hungry, and it would be funny. Except then her clothing would be messed up; fortunately, she kept a change of clothing under his bed in the event she got covered in blood…

She opened the bathroom door slowly and entered the steamy bathroom.

Bad move, Sy-on. Always lock your door.

Anya crept towards the shower, then readied her fangs- time to feast…

Then she thought about it. They aren't even dating, and she's too young to see his… thing… no… she'd just have to wait on his bed until he was done. Anya pouted. Why on earth did she have to be responsible?

Once she heard the shower turn off, she hid behind the door so that she could attack immediately.

Wait… what if he isn't wearing anything? What if I attack him, and the towel he might be wearing comes off? SHIIIIIIIII

Quickly, Anya opted to jump for cover under the bed; if she was right, she didn't want to be around while he changed; besides, she needed to talk to him, and sucking his blood would put him to sleep. She was a red mess.

Anya waited under the bed until she was 90% sure he was dressed. Then she slipped out from under his bed and crawled up onto the bed where he was lying reading a book.

"Good evening," he said, setting down the book.

"Don't 'good evening' me!" The vampire blushed, "I've been here for half an hour, and you had the audacity to shower!"

"Well, thank you for not attacking me while I was nude-"

"PLEASE-" she then sighed, "don't make me think about… that."

"I bet you were thinking about it," Damian smirked.

"Shut up." Anya crossed her arms.

"And people call me the tsundere," the scion murmured.

Anya groaned, "just… You know Connie is coming after you."

"Let her try," Damian laughed, "holy water doesn't really affect me."

"Okay," Anya narrowed her eyes at him, "don't die, I'll never forgive you if you do."

"I won't," Damian smiled.

"Okay, I'm gonna feed now," Anya readied her fangs, "goodnight."

"Night."

Anya then crawled up to Damian's side of the bed and sank her fangs into his neck. He was out in minutes; still, she had to stick around for at least fifteen minutes to get her two liters of blood. Once she was done, she licked up his wounds so they could clot faster.

She looked up to the vent, then back at Damian.

"Goodnight, Sy-on Boy, I love you," She winked before leaping up into the vents.

It would be super embarrassing if he were awake, but telepathy had made her sure that he wasn't.

In the morning, Anya came to school, tired as always. Was she on her third coke? Anya loved western sodas from across the ocean because they were packed with caffeine with much less effort than it took to make tea every morning. Of course, she never got the same sensations from drinking it as a normal person would, but she still liked it a lot. And WISE was happy to smuggle it in for Twilight's daughter.

Anya made her way to the task force headquarters, only to find it abandoned with a sticky note that read "gone for vampire poaching."

"Great," Anya sighed, "now I have to go find where they're doing it."

They probably didn't trust Anya enough to tell her anything about the plan. Anya cursed her luck and then ran off to figure out what she'd do.

Damian woke up tied to a chair and gagged. Before him stood several cloaked figures; he reasoned they were with the task force, so Connie, Tertius, Arnold, George, and… Anya were missing. That brought some relief to him, knowing that Anya was far away from this. Next to the figures was a table, he couldn't see what was on it but he figured it was vampire killing equipment.

"Nice of you to join us," Arnold joked.

Damian glared at them as if to say, "UN GAG ME!!!"

Arnold obliged, un gaging him. Everyone else in the room looked at him like he was crazy.

"What, we can't have witty banter if he can't talk."

"Yeah, well, now he can scream to give away our location," Connie argued.

"Oh, trust me, you're doing that just fine right now," Arnold shot back.

Connie had a look in her eyes that made it seem as if Damian was not in the most danger.

"Anyone care to explain why you tied me up?" Damian asked.

"Surely you can figure it out, vampire," Arnold spat.

"Ya know what, sure kill me, if that's what it takes to stop hearing his annoying voice," Damian joked.

Arnold turned red with anger, "I… will… prepare to suffer the most painful death a vampire can take!"

Arnold approached the table, picking up a vial of holy water.

Damian laughed, trying to egg on Arnold as much as he could. If he could sew chaos into their ranks, he would, "trust me, few things could hurt as much as having to listen to you."

Arnold threw the vial in anger at Damian, but it failed to shatter on impact. The glass stuck the scion in the head, causing the chair to fall over.

"Ow!" he exclaimed, "bitch!"

George, desperate to help, picked up the vial of holy water and dumped it on Damian's face. Of course, nothing happened. Damian's only pain came from the vile striking him in the forehead.

"Damn, nothing," Connie sighed, "perhaps he isn't the vampire."

"No," Arnold assured, "let's try our other options, I'm sure he just has some way of cloaking the effects."

Tertius set the chair back to upright while Arnold prepared some garlic to put an end to this.

"Let's see how you like the taste of garlic," he said, smiling.

Arnold attempted alone to pry open Damian's mouth and force the garlic in. Of course, Damian proceeded to bite down on Arnold's hand, causing him to reel back in pain. Except, Damian didn't let go, so as Arnold fell back in pain, the chair and Damian went with. It took the entire task force to get the chair back upright and to get Damian to let go. Arnold's hand was drenched in blood.

"You should get that checked out," Damian smirked, "untreated bites can be deadly."

"Well, that didn't work," Tertius sighed, "should we call it?"

Connie thought, "Yeah, we probably should… we should wait until we get the blood work."

"God no!" Arnold argued, "That thing bit me! You saw how strong he was, he is the vampire, he isn't any denying it."

Arnold took the crucifix-shaped stake in hand and approached Damian. That was when the scion realized something really important: a stake to the heart would most certainly kill anyone, even if they were not a vampire. Suddenly, he wasn't smirking.

Arnold raised the steak above his head. This was it, this was how he died, and worse, Arnold would have the final blow!

Damian closed his eyes…

When he opened his eyes, Anya was standing in front of him, her arms out protecting him.

"Oh my god!" Connie's scream pierced the silence.

Anya let out a shallow chuckle, "damn Arnold… I thought you'd have had a stronger stab."

The steak was halfway plunged into Anya's chest, and blood was already seeping into her clothing.

"Anya!" Damian cried out.

Anya collapsed to her knees, the steak just missing her heart. He really did go for it, though, to be fair, Arnold always hated Damian. Anya slid over a knife to Damian so he could cut himself out of his chair.

Once he was free, he picked up Anya and ran as fast as he could. When he arrived at his dorm, he laid down a towel and then lay her on the bed.

"Alright, if I were you, I'd get some gloves on first," Anya instructed, "trust me…"

Damian remembered how corrosive her blood was. He quickly affixed gloves and then awaited further instructions.

"Alright, pull out the steak, then apply pressure," she continued.

Damian carefully removed the steak, then grabbed something acid-proof to stop her bleeding. He waited for her to slowly get better, at least well enough to have a proper conversation.

"So they totally know now," Damian sighed, defeated.

"I disagree," Anya rasped, "they love me too much, they'll be so relieved that I survived, they'll forget about the whole thing."

"Wasn't it you who told me not to die?" Damian joked.

"Shut up," Anya smiled.

Damian assumed Anya didn't want to be taken to a hospital because her blood was a biohazard, but he was fine with her staying in his room.

"By the way, my blood probably ate through my clothing, so if you could go out and buy me clothing, that would be great," Anya requested, "you can put me under the bed while you're out, nobody will notice."

"You sure?"

"Why not? I love dark places," Anya chucked dryly.

A few days later, the investigation came to an end, and Anya went back to school, fully healed. The Task Force profusely apologized, and they all agreed not to talk about it with anyone. Connie was just happy to see that Anya was unharmed.

Still, a thought burned in the back of her mind. Anya had to be a vampire, not because she survived the steaking, but because she was in love with Damian, who most definitely was a vampire. He would have turned her a while ago. Still, she could live with a vampire friend.

"Connie, neither Sy-on nor I are vampires," Anya deadpanned.

"Well, it's possible," she argued.

As for that bloodwork at the crime scene, well, it turns out the DNA didn't match anyone's; the science guy said it was inhuman. Like obviously! Still, nobody got Stella, the vampire wasn't found, and Anya didn't die.

:)
