Chapter Text
Gerard Way was already having a shit day.
First, he woke up late because he and his buddies had been out late the night before and slept through his alarm. In his haste to get to work, he spilled his life-saving cup of coffee all over himself, and had to change, only making him more late.
When he finally got to work, he found that the coffee machine was broken.
Great.
Finally, his boss had commissioned him five more pieces due Wednesday, two days from now, guaranteeing he’d be running on caffeine and cigarettes for the next 72 hours.
Because of this series of events, it was no shock that he used his break to walk to a nearby coffee shop and purchase the biggest cup they offered. He was almost there, he could see the sign, but suddenly, a small ball of fluff barreled into his shins.
“Ah! Shit!” I grumbled in surprise. There was a pink leash attached at the dog’s neck, so it had clearly been dropped by someone. He quickly grabbed it by the scruff, holding it so it wouldn’t escape.
Suddenly, he heard footsteps slapping against the concrete toward him. He looked up for the second time in less than a minute, but this time his breath caught in his throat and he almost dropped the dog.
Running at him was the most beautiful man he had ever seen.
He had dark brown eyes and swoopy black hair on one side, bleached and cropped short on the other. His nose was small and highlighted by a shiny ring, same as the bottom left of his thin, pale-pink lips.
The man frantically waved a hand, flagging Gerard down. When he finally reached him, he doubled over with his hands on his knees, panting. “I really should run more.” He remarked, clearly out of breath.
Gerard looked up at him with amused shock, laughing a bit.
“Sorry.” He panted again. “I’m Frank. That’s my dog. I got distracted and dropped her leash.”
“Oh! Uh! It’s totally fine, hahaha! G-Gerard, by the way.”
“Thanks for grabbing her, Gerard!” Frank mused, winding her leash around his hand and then extending his free dexterity towards Gerard, which he gladly obliged to. Once Frank pulled him to his feet, he cocked his head to the side inquisitively, asking, “Hey, where were you going, anyway?”
Gerard laughed and then sighed, tiredly rubbing his face. “Just down there.” He pointed to the coffee shop. “I-it was an eventful morning, to say the least. I needed more coffee.”
Frank nodded in understanding. “I feel you. Hey, this… this might sound kinda weird, but are you-are you, by chance into, um, into dudes? Like, like are you..?”
“Gay? Yeah.” He laughed again. “Why? Did it show?”
“Ah-uh… I don’t know.” Frank awkwardly laughed. “Um, would you wanna, ah, would you maybe wanna go on a date some time? Like… with me?”
Shit! This absolutely stunning boy wanted to go out with him? In a romantic way?
“Oh! Y-yeah! Definitely!”
“Awesome. So, like, you mentioned going to a coffee shop. Would you mind if I came with you or..?” Frank trailed off.
“Now? Like… a date? You’re one Hell of a player Frank-“ Gerard trailed, asking for a last name.
“Iero.” He corrected. “And you?”
“Way.”
“I like that. It suits you. Nice to meet you, Gerard Way.” Frank smiled warmly, lip ring glinting off the sun. He could get used to that smile, he thought.
Frank extended his hand again, but this time for a less conventional reason. Gerard took hold of it, lacing their fingers together and pulling the pair off towards the coffee shop.
Maybe spilling his coffee wasn’t so bad after all.
