As the family gathered round the bedside of Giles they knew he had very little time left. Buffy holding her husband's hand with tears flowing from her eyes the wedding rings still shining after all these years. The kids sitting beside their father's bed in tears and saying goodbye to their dad. Weakly Giles turns his head to Buffy as she rubs his forehead tenderly and with a pained but tender smile he says to Buffy " I love you so much Buffy, please remember all the good times we had together as a couple and as a family." Shedding tears Buffy smiles through the tears "I love you so much Giles. Thank you for giving me the best years of my life as your wife. I will miss you dearly." She leans over gently and plants a soft lingering kiss to his lips. Despite being very ill Giles basks in the glow of his wifes lips. As they part Giles speaks to his kids. "My wonderful kids you have been a blessing to both me and your mum and now you will have to help her and be with her. "I love you all and forever cherish the time we had together." The kids all go and hug their father even though he still has his hand in Buffy's. The doctor is called as his breathing is shallow. As he closes his eyes the doctor looks at Buffy and the kids. "I am so sorry, Rupert has passed away."
Tears flown as the siblings all comfort each other and they go over to comfort their mother as well. Edmund as the oldest child of the house says "I will go and phone Willow and the rest of the group. Willow, Tara, Xander and Anya are all together at Willows place when the phone rings. "Hello." Says Willow "Hello its Edmund here Williow, I am ringing to let you know that our dad has passed away. If you can let the others know I would be greatful. I will get in contact with Dawn." Willow who was in tears and choked up says "Edmund I am so so sorry we will try and go over to see yous as soon as we can. Bye for now." As Willow ends the call she turns around with tears in her eyes. Xander speaks "Willow whats happened?" Willow finding it hard to hold back tears. "It's Giles, he has passed away." They all start crying and as a group comfort each other.
The next day at the funeral home a wake is held in memory of Giles. He is dressed in his normal 3 piece tweed suit with a black tie and white shirt. Flowers and pictures all around the casket as Willow and the rest all go to comfort Buffy and the family as they look at the open casket seeing how peaceful Giles looked. They all hug Buffy and the kids as they all shed tears. After so many hours of Viewing it has gone quiet but Buffy and the scoobie gang are all still there as the children have gone to sleep. "I don't know what I am going to do without Giles, he was the love of my life and very dear to me and the kids." Buffy sobs as she breaks down in Willows arms. "We will all be here for you and the kids buffy all the time." Tanya says. Dawn arrives and cries as she goes to hug her sister and looks at Giles. "He is so peaceful Buffy." Dawns voice cracks through the tears.
As the day of the funeral arrives the Whole town of Sunnydale turns out along with the Watchers council and slayers to remember Giles. As the guests all take a seat the funeral begins with Xander, Edmund, Charles and Spike carrying in the casket as Buffy and the girls are behind it. As the service starts the officiant begins. Today we are here for the funeral of Rupert Edmund Giles. Beloved husband of Buffy and devoted father of Edmund, Olivia, Tanya and Charles, brother in law to Dawn and a friend to many. We send our deepest sympathies to his wife and kids his dearest friends from here and all over the world. Xander will now come up to speak.
Xander speaks "Giles kids are going to bring up momentos all asscoiated with Giles. First Edmund brings up Giles' glasses, he used these all the time when he was studying or teaching. This was a main part of his look. Olivia and Tanya bring up books that Giles always read as he was a librarian for many many years. Charles brings up a family photo of the 6 of them together showing how much of a devoted family they were."
As Xander sits down the officiant speaks "Thank you for that Xander was a beautiful touch. Edmund is now going to come up and speak on behalf of the family. Edmund gets up to the podium and speaks " Hello everyone, on behalf of my mom and Siblings we first like to express our gratitude to those who have send us messages, cards and express deep sorrow on the passing of Giles. Our dad was a wonderful man, a fantastic husband to our mom, a wonderful father to myself and my siblings. He always looked out for all of us as a family but also looked out for his friends as well. He enjoyed his books, his watcher duties and also watching his slayer who became his wife. Dad had the most beautiful laugh and smile and when it came to mom he loved her deeply and was very devoted to her. When I grew up I couldn't ask for better parents and when my 3 other siblings were born I felt to myself that I would not get attention from my parents but my parents gave us all equal attention and were firm but fair. Dad would have been a bit more stricter but he always liked to show his work to us much to his delight. We will miss dad very much and Mom will miss him immensley. Dad had fought a strong battle to the end and even when he was ill he still made us all laugh and still showed the loving devotion to mom." As Edmund almost breaks down he finishes with theses words "dad your legacy will always be remembered, your memories with us all will always be cherised with photos and stories. Wherever you are I know you will be watching us and protecting us."
At the graveside Giles casket is lowered to the ground as Buffy and the kids throw roses on top of the casket. The kids all say goodbye dad and will love you forever. As Buffy stands over the grave she remembers the line "I'll keep a part of you with me and everywhere I am there you'll be."
"I will love you forever Giles, I know someday we will be in each others arms again."
