Work Text:
Sandy was motionless on the floor of his entryway.
"You fall asleep in the weirdest places."
Her ears twitch at the sound of his voice, and she gets up and trots over to him, rubbing her head on his pant leg.
"Thank god I threw away those dangerous pills right when Barbara died, what if you had gotten into those!" He pets her soft, warm fur, "Ha, imagine that."
His phone rings as he throws away a bag of dirtied litter, "Hey Nikki!"
"Hey Bear, what time are you coming out tonight?"
"Ah, I have to spend time with my cat whom I love and adore, do you think it's okay if I skip one night of trivia?"
"Of course, I did want to tell you some news though!"
"I see," He frowns in thought. She doesn't sound upset, so maybe it's not bad! "Do you want to tell me in person?"
"Nah, it's not that kind of news, I'm just putting in my two weeks tomorrow. Oh no! My crystal necklace fell in the sink! Good thing the sink has a stopper in it, and it is actually fine."
"Oh! That's good." Bear sighs, this isn't the best news him, because he has a big crush on Nikki, but she sounds happy, so as her friend, he will support her. He immediately forgets about the necklace because it is not important.
"I am sorry we won't be working together anymore, but since we're still good friends, I will see you a lot! Have a great night with your cat!"
"Actually, I will see you there to celebrate your new life journey! I am a good friend who supports his independent friends who do what they want!"
"Yes! You are known for letting people make their own life decisions!" She agrees, "I will see you at the bar!"
Bear pets his kitty on the head and tosses her a treat before heading out of his front door, knowing she will be fine and healthy when he gets back because he threw all those pills away, and also his cat does not know how to open cabinet doors.
"Hah," He smiles to himself as he drives down the road to the bar, "I have all the time in the world to see if Nikki likes me, just as Ian said! Maybe I will tell her someday-"
A man runs into the road, covered in blood with a manic look in his eye. Bear almost hits him with his car but manages to avoid him just in time. He stumbles up to the drivers side window and smears bloody fingerprints around on the glass until Bear rolls it down.
"Sir! Sir please you need to believe me, I wished for this thing and it came true but I only get one wish so you need to wish for it to cancel out so I can end the plotlin- I mean this horrible thing."
Bear startles, taking in the crazed look in his eye, and the blood dripping down his face. Honesty, this guy looks like he's on drugs or in a manic episode, but due to the blood, Bear is inclined to do whatever he's asking so he will leave him alone.
"What do you want me to say?"
"Say you want the wish I made to reverse."
"Hm," Bear says, "Are you sure that's specific and foolproof enough? If we are not in imminent danger, let's think about it for a minute."
And so they think about it for awhile and finally come up with a wish that is foolproof. Bear says it and breaks the stick and the man gets a call from the affected party saying they are back to normal. They hug and Bear tells the man to buy another stick from the shop and make a wish for a million dollars in front of a police officer so they can crack down on the magic stick things because it's really weird that no one has noticed that the magic is real yet.
Bear recounts this crazy story to his friends at trivia night and they all laugh together. Sarah shares that she got into her dream college and will now be wearing a helmet at all times just as a safety precaution. Nikki says she is moving to Europe to write her love story and also that she is a lesbian. Ian is doing nothing but is very nice and supportive, and they all drink shots except Bear, who has a piña colada.
"Wow, tonight was such a good way to end my time as your co-worker." Nikki says, smiling in a normal and consensual way, "Thank you!"
"Of course. Sarah would you like a ride home?" Bear suggests, holding out his hand to the girl he knows has a crush on her and he also likes back in a normal and healthy way.
"Oh, okay! Yes I am consenting to that!" She blushes. Ian and Nikki both give her supportive thumbs up, because they know she wants this.
Nikki sighs wistfully as they leave, "Wow, I hope I find love like that in Europe when I write my book because that is my dream that I will be able to achieve."
"I will not take advantage of you being single and desiring romance because I am not a douchebag and I care about you as a friend deeply." Ian nods, offering her his hand, "Would you like a ride home?"
"No."
"Cool."
