Synopsis: Tanya is reborn as an NPC in Yggdrasil. Now as Umbriel and Albedo's twin sister and also a Succubus. Inspired by the fanfic Tanya, The Lesser Evil (Title may change) (Link: Tanya, The Lesser Evil (Title may change) - Chapter 1 - Kahnathara - Multifandom [Archive of Our Own])
Chapter 1
Momonga felt lost.
It had been months since a guild member had last logged into YGGDRASIL. Not counting Herohero, who had just logged off, he was the only one who still logged in regularly.
As he walked through the corridors of Nazarick, he decided to conduct one last inspection before the servers went offline.
“Follow me.”
The order came naturally as he passed by Sebas and the Pleiades on his way to the Throne Room.
As Momonga had expected, two figures were waiting before the golden throne.
To the right stood Albedo, Supervisor of the Guardians. To the left stood Umbriel, Nazarick’s supreme military strategist.
Just like Albedo’s position, Umbriel’s role was, for the most part, a role-play element created by the guild members. Still, there was one important difference.
While Albedo was designed to administer Nazarick, Umbriel was created to defend it. Both were creations of Tabula Smaragdina, twin sisters—or at least as close to twins as two NPCs could be.
They shared the same delicate features—such as their beauty, body proportions, and facial features—as well as demonic traits like horns and wings extending from their hips. But even at first glance, no observer could confuse them.
For the similarities end there. Albedo possessed the refined beauty of an angelic noblewoman. Umbriel looked like a materialized demonic temptation.
Umbriel boasted an absurdly lascivious and provocative figure, clad in a tight black dress with a dizzying slit that rose up to her hips.
A more-than-generous neckline consisting of two stylized dark claws that framed her breasts. To this day, Momonga wonders how Tabula managed to get this design past the game’s censors. It probably helped that none of the members reported this design.
Her large black demon wings, pointed elven ears, and imposing, branched black horns adorned with amulets and dreamcatchers that hung over her long, braided platinum-blonde hair. In other words, it was exactly the kind of appearance that would lead anyone to assume she was a libertine succubus.
Which made it all the more amusing to the guild members. Because Umbriel was probably the most conservative person in all of Nazarick. Tabula had created the two of them to be opposites in both appearance and personality.
However, behind that scandalously sexual and sinful appearance, her personality programming depicted a cold, calculating, pragmatic, and rigidly puritanical military strategist on the inside.
She was designed to be a woman who detests any frivolity or debauchery, focusing strictly on efficiency and logic.
The guild members loved the irony. Albedo looked like a saint and acted like a wanton woman. Umbriel looked like a wanton woman and acted like an armed nun.
In terms of combat, however, no one was laughing. Umbriel was a level 100 NPC specializing in leadership, command, and summoning. Among all the guardians, Umbriel was perhaps the least impressive in a one-on-one duel. But a war was not a duel.
Her abilities allowed her to summon entire legions of demons and monsters as auxiliary troops, strengthening them through countless buffs and command passives while leading them. In a protracted war, few NPCs in Nazarick would be as dangerous as she was.
For this reason, Tabula and the other guild members had entrusted her with a unique role.
Umbriel was the supreme commander of Nazarick’s defensive protocols. Should invaders reach the lower floors, she would take control of all available forces.
She was the last line of defense before the Throne. The last chance to repel an invasion before it reached this far.
Of course, he knew that this position was more of a role-playing element than anything else, but Umbriel had the potential to turn the tide of any battle if she were given time to cast her summons and buffs on allies and summons.
Tanya Von Degurechaf—or Umbriel, as she was now called. She watched silently as the undead overlord known as Momonga entered the room.
The situation remained absurd. She was trapped inside that body. Trapped within that existence.
Memories that weren’t hers had been poured into her mind. Impossible knowledge. Unknown magical systems. Military strategies involving fantastical creatures.
And, above all, an artificial loyalty. She could feel it. Like invisible chains wrapped around her soul. The former Tanya felt the urge to reject it.
To fight. To resist.
But another part of her naturally accepted the authority of those Supreme Beings who had shaped her current body. Even though she had never seen it—or herself—in its entirety.
It was irritating. Very irritating. At least there was one silver lining. Since her arrival, there had been no sign of Being X.
That’s why she still hadn’t decided whether to consider her situation a curse or a blessing. Her thoughts were interrupted when Momonga stopped in front of Albedo.
She watched her creator—or something close to it—check on her sister through a floating screen. He then approached her and did the same. She couldn’t read what was written on the screen because it was upside down. An unpleasant sensation ran down her spine.
She didn’t know exactly what he was doing. But it reminded her all too much of Entity X watching her—of the feeling that someone was planning to alter her mind.
Her face remained impassive, as she was unable to move it or make any expressions. Inside, however, she was extremely uncomfortable.
When the master finished quickly, he sat down on his throne and remained silent as he looked at the banners bearing the crests of the other Supreme Leaders.
She observed Sebas and the Pleiades, who had entered alongside Master Momonga. Strange. She couldn’t recall a single occasion when they had been summoned to the Throne Room in that manner.
Then came the order. “Kneel.”
Her body moved to obey instantly. But something happened. The moment she bowed, the invisible pressure vanished.
Her fingers moved. Of their own accord. She blinked. Then she slowly closed her hand.
Once. Twice. Free. For the first time since she’d awakened in that body, she could move without being given an order.
Instinctively, her hand touched one of the black horns protruding from her head, then the black bat wings extending from her hips.
It still felt strange. She didn’t know how much time had passed, and she still couldn’t fully accept that this was part of her.
Just as she’d tried to control her reaction when she first saw the clothes she was wearing. Just as she’d tried to ignore the fact that they covered almost nothing. Leaving her chest nearly exposed, covered only by those claws, just as the huge side slit revealed her hips and left one side of her butt exposed.
A wave of rapidly shifting emotions swept through her mind. Relief. Confusion. Hope. Shame. Fear.
His attention immediately turned to Momonga when he abruptly rose from the throne.
“What’s going on here?!”
“What’s the matter, Lord Momonga?” Albedo’s voice echoed through the room. So that’s what her voice sounds like… Umbriel remained silent.
Shortly afterward came another statement.
He looked at her for a few seconds, clearly wondering whether or not to explain his earlier outburst. “The GM summoning function isn’t working.”
Umbriel had no idea what a GM was. But Momonga’s reaction indicated that it was important. Correction—very important, judging by his brief panic.
Then Tanya—or Umbriel—thought, ‘Am I really still trapped here?’ The question popped into her mind immediately. If she were free to act, perhaps she could escape, walk away.
Perhaps she could disappear. But would it be worth it?
She knew only two certainties.
First: The supreme beings are absurdly powerful. She doesn’t want to be hunted down by any of them as a deserter. She also had no way of knowing if her so-called sisters would be willing to come with her or help her.
Second: Nazarick was probably the safest place at that moment. Especially against entities like Being X. Therefore, a hasty retreat would be foolish. Something Tanya had always despised.
“Sebas.”
“How may I assist you, Lord Momonga?”
“... Leave the tomb and check the area around Nazarick.”
“Understood, Lord Momonga.” Sebas gave a slight bow, turned, and then left immediately.
“The rest of the Pleiades should return to their posts and guard against possible intruders.”
“Yes, Lord Momonga.” They replied in unison and left the room.
He said nothing in response and stared at the doors of the throne room. I believe he was reflecting on whatever had just happened—until he was interrupted.
“Lord Momonga, what do you want my sister and me to do?” Albedo broke the silence in the room.
‘Damn it, Albedo, don’t include me in your plans without my consent.’ Umbriel thought about her sister’s offer.
“Albedo and Umbriel, come closer.”
Umbriel rose from where she had been kneeling until now and walked toward the throne, not knowing what to expect.
“M-may I touch you?”
‘Did he stutter? Wait, what kind of request was that?’ Umbriel thought about her master’s request.
“Of course you may touch us wherever you wish, O Supreme Lord!”
She simply held back a sigh and reached out her arm beside her sister’s. He first traced his bony finger along her forearm, then closed his hand around both their forearms and moved down toward their wrists.
When she was touched, Umbriel felt as if a wave of electricity were coursing through her body, accompanied by a heat building up in her groin. He forced himself not to show any reaction as he tried to understand how a simple touch could cause this. She, too, suspected that Lord Momonga was using some kind of magic.
She could see that he was doing the same thing to Albedo, but for some reason, Albedo decided not to hide the fact that she was having the same reaction. She was panting, her face flushed, and clearly struggling to keep her body still as she fluttered her wings slightly and moved her hips.
She stifled a small cry when Lord Momonga grabbed her wrist. I just watched it all in silence, puzzled by her reaction.
“Are you all right, Albedo?”
“I couldn’t be better, my Lord.” She said this with a huge smile, still blushing.
Umbriel and Momonga looked uneasily at Albedo as she calmed down, both surprised by her reaction.
“Umbriel…” The woman addressed her leader when she was called.
“Yes, my lord?”
“May I… touch your breast?”
Umbriel hadn’t expected this request, so she hesitated to answer.
“Yes, Lord Momonga,” she replied, though inwardly she rejected the idea. However, she wouldn’t risk incurring her boss’s wrath without being prepared to handle it—and because she didn’t know the undead ruler’s motives. She really wanted to believe that this act had a logical motivation, not one driven solely by lust.
When the lord reached out and touched Umbriel’s right breast, she felt that electricity coursing through her body again—this time starting from her chest and traveling down to her groin, with an intensity far greater than before. Umbriel could feel the heat building up and a certain dampness in her panties.
“Sister, I’m so jealous of you.” Umbriel ignored her sister, not deigning to respond.
Umbriel did her utmost not to show what she was feeling, even though her breathing had grown somewhat heavier. But she managed to stop herself from moaning and moving her hips and wings the way her sister was.
“L-Lord Momonga.” She called out to her boss, hoping that would stop him before she reached her limit.
“Ah, I’m sorry, Umbriel.” Fortunately, he stopped before she did something she might regret.
“Lord Momonga, I know this might be embarrassing, but could I ask you to touch me the same way you touched my sister?”
Then Momonga turned his attention to her.
“...”
“...”
“...”
“Umbriel and Albedo, I want the two of you to organize a meeting with all the floor guardians—except for the guardians of the fourth and eighth floors of Nazarick—in the fifth-floor arena in… one hour.”
They replied immediately. “Understood, Lord Momonga.”
Umbriel decided that, at least for now, observing was the best option. Gather information. Assess risks. And only then decide on her next steps. Just as any logical and rational person would do.
As she left the room following her sister, she couldn’t help but think. The dress was still just as absurd as it had been the first time she’d seen it a short while ago.
It still seemed ridiculous to her that that piece of clothing provided more protection than a full suit of armor.
“Ah…” Momonga let out a long sigh.
‘I can’t believe I practically groped Umbriel…’ He brought his hands to his gaunt face.
And right in front of her sister. The image of Albedo watching the entire scene immediately flashed back into his mind. Just like her words and her request.
Of all the people in Nazarick…
The fanatical puritan created by Tabula was probably the worst possible choice. At least she didn’t say anything… If she had, he was sure he would have died of embarrassment.
Or he would have actually died if she’d launched into a lecture on decorum, harassment, and discipline. After all, that seems to be exactly the kind of thing Umbriel would do.

Tanya's appearance in this fanfic was inspired by the image above. For those who can't see the image for any reason, I'm basing it on a picture of the character Owari from the game Azur Lane in her Halloween skin, where she wears the dress described.
