Work Text:

Rick watches Morty shed his pants, letting them fall to the floor before he climbs into bed with the elder. They decided to sleep in Rick's room tonight, Morty missing being held and this being one of the only parts of the house they won't get caught in.

Morty grumbles something about Rick's feet being cold, but still places his head on his chest. Rick can't help but smile, a soft, rumbling noise coming from his throat.

"Summer was being a bit of a dick today." Morty yawns.

"Is that so?" Rick watches the kid blink slowly under the small light of the lamp. A yellow hue spreads across his face and coloring the highlights of his hair.

"Yeah, I don't know why. It wasn't like I did anything to her."

"Yeah, well you know how women are sometimes." Rick chuckles to himself.

"I think she might've been on her period, I don't know."

Rick shrugs, "Don't blame her, those things hurt like hell."

Morty laughs, "Was one of your exes like that?"

"Not quite."

Now the boy looks confused, looking up at his grandfather with a strange expression.

Rick looks away, he sort of forgot that, with all the surgeries, you couldn't tell. Hell, sometimes he even forgot.

"I..." Rick clears his throat, "It's a long story."

"About?"

"...About my past, I guess." Rick tries his best to shrug it off, make it not seem like that big of a deal. "I used to be a lot different when I was younger."

Morty keeps giving Rick that face until it seems like everything falls into place. The last puzzle piece clicks, and Morty stares directly into his eyes.

"You used to be a—"

"Yes." Rick cuts off, "You don't have to say it." He thought he might be over it, but the claws of dysphoria still hold on to his brain.

Morty chews on his bottom lip, "How, uh..."

"Out with it."

"H-How big were they?" Morty gives a quick look down to Rick's bare chest, a hesitant grin on his face. Hesitant, but unapologetic.

Rick full-heartedly laughs, the question catching him off guard. He sighs for a moment until he realizes Morty's still waiting for an answer.

"If you must know, I had D cups."

Morty's eyes lit up. Rick had to contain another fit.

"Yeah, you imagining that now? Grandpa with D's?"

Morty smiles, nodding, "And now you have just one D." He nudges his grandfather.

"Witty little bastard." Rick ruffles Morty's hair.

Something else seems to have caught Morty's attention, so Rick takes his hand away. He'd never admit it, but he's still nervous. He never really "came out" to anyone, thought it was stupid and lame. He found out way after he was eighteen, being able to do everything himself. There was only one person he ever did tell.

Diane's face flashes in his mind, how understanding she was. He was so, so nervous of a reaction. Of her leaving. Of her freaking out or doing something worse. But she listened, she cared. She told him that it didn't matter, Diane loved him for who he was. Or, in her words, the man he was.

Rick looks away, still feeling the aches of old love in his heart. It pauses when Morty scoots up, taking the man's face in his hands and kissing him softly. Rick reciprocates slightly, but keeps it short.

"It, uh," Morty looks up at him, "It doesn't matter to me, Rick. You're still my grandfather."

Rick looked down softly at the boy, hand cupping his soft face and brushing the hair away from his eyes.

"Plus, you're r-really handsome." Morty looks away playfully.

"Don't— Don't try to butter me up." The elder rolled his eyes, thumb still stroking Morty's cheekbone.
