Work Text:
Teru never understood how people could ever like beaches, especially beaches during summer, which is the appropriate time to go. The grainy sand gets in her shoes and it makes her feel tingly, the sea water tastes weird when (and if) she gets to go swim, the sun burns off her skin, and she hates wearing swimsuits.
With all those reasons to dislike the beach, she doesn’t understand why she’s standing here in the beach under the scorching hot sun when she could’ve been home resting up for the night to hunt supernaturals.
She doesn’t understand why she acted so stupidly and agreed to come here with all the others, maybe it’s because her younger siblings wanted to come, or maybe because she wanted to see a certain someone, but either way it was the most stupid decision to ever make for someone who dislikes beaches during this warm weather.
She is sweating so much right now through her thick clothes…she feels like she’s melting. She wonders why she chose to wear a long sleeve top and sweatpants but then she remembers all the scars under that she wouldn’t ever want anyone to see. It would ruin her perfect picture she paints for people to see.
She just doesn’t understand how people do this…well maybe her wearing clothing more suitable for colder weather
A sudden tap on her shoulder makes her jolt and she turns to be met with brown eyes staring straight at her, and it takes her a moment to process that she’s being spoken to.
“Hey pres-“
The person waves their arms in front of her face and finally her brain works for a bit in the god awful heat to feel annoyed by this.
“Pres, why are you just standing there?”
Finally she realizes it’s the certain someone she came to the beach for, though she’d never admit it. The certain someone being Akane Aoi, which is why she’d never admit it…though even if it was someone else she’d never admit that either but that’s besides the point.
“Aoi, stop waving your arms in my face. Do you want my attention that bad?”
She wanted it to sound teasing but the heat is really getting to her so it came out more rude sounding than she’d like, thank goodness Akane just ignored that and gave an eye roll as an answer. Akane just tilts her eyes and analyzes her for a moment, which she doesn’t really like. What is she trying to do? She hates being dissected.
“Uh what? Is something on my face-“
“Why are you wearing such warm clothing for the beach? All long sleeves…”
Ah. So that’s why the girl was staring at her like she’d grown a second head or something, she didn’t want to address this, but who’s to blame but herself for even coming to the beach, especially dressed like this?
“Why? You wanna see me half naked or something?”
She looks the girl up and down, clearly judging her by the stare but also maybe checking her out. Not that she’d ever show or admit that— hopefully Akane didn’t notice that. The other girl just rolls her eyes, not amused at all.
“Ew no, and just what are you trying to imply?”
Of course she would catch on the judgment (but thankfully not the checking out). She’s too observant for Teru’s liking.
“Nothing~”
She hums, trying to annoy the girl but the heat is really making her not think properly so she’s sure she’s sounding more and more emotionless as they talk.
Before she knows it her surroundings start looking all weird and she feels super dizzy now, way more dizzy than before, then everything just goes dark and her body goes limp.
“Pres…?”
Akane’s expression of annoyance shifts to slight concern and confusion and before she even knows it the taller girl falls in her arms. Great, seems like she’s passed out and of course Akane has to be the one to be the witness.
Her eyebrows furrow and she’s actually quite worried now. Even if she dislikes the girl she wouldn’t just let her lay here in the sand and heat, especially with the clothes she’s in, so she drags her under the umbrella (she’s surprisingly light though). No one else is here right now, so it seems she has to be the one to watch Teru.
She sighs, this is so troublesome. She came here to be with Aoi and to swim with him! She should’ve never come up to Teru and criticized her, though a small part of her is glad to have come because what would have happened if she didn’t? It would be so much worse for Teru, and she doesn’t like how that actually makes her worry a lot.
She doesn’t really know what to do with a passed out person in front of her. She only knows that she should move the person under cool shade and lay them flat and remove excess clothing, but that seems kind of…invasive for. Teru seems to not like the subject of her wearing long sleeves at the beach, and she maybe knows the reason why, but she doesn’t want to assume.
She stares at the girl lying in front of her, the most popular girl in school. She hates to admit it but she understands why she’s so popular. The girl is stupidly pretty, even if she’s passed out like this because her stupid ass wore a long sleeved shirt and sweatpants to the damn beach when it’s already so hot.
She doesn’t understand why Teru even came to the beach if she hates the heat so much and never wears short sleeved stuff. She remembers once when they were just doing work in the student council room as usual and the topic of summer break came up, Teru mentioned that she didn’t like the heat and never understood the hype for beaches.
She looks down at Teru, really looks at her. She never noticed that Teru has a small mole on her right cheek, huh. Why is she starting to look…prettier? Wait no— maybe it’s the heat getting to her.
Teru shifts a little, just moving her arm a little but she seems to still be unconscious. Akane hates how she feels a lot of worry for her right now. What if she never wakes up? That would be bad…logically of course. Her younger siblings wouldn’t take it well and she’s a well respected person so a lot of people would be devastated, she’s not heartless enough to say that she’d be happy too. Maybe she’d even be sad and cry, well not cry, but mourn.
The sudden thought hits her hard, why is she even thinking about this? She just passed out from heat…nothing too serious, she thinks, at least. She should just stop, this girl is really making her brain scrambled. It’s not good to be near her.
She wonders if she should at least roll the sleeves of Teru’s…it does help, but she knows that would be too invasive. Does being invasive really matter though, if someone’s life is on the line? It’s just rolling her sleeves a little…she won’t pry or question or even stare.
She debates herself a little longer before she decides she’ll just roll it a bit to help, she won’t stare. She rolls up her sweatpants first then she moves to roll the long sleeves of her shirt, but when she rolls that she catches a glimpse of…a lot of scars, but she said she won’t stare or pry and she sticks by her words.
She honestly doesn’t know why she’s even doing all this, she knows the girl won’t die, she’s too strong for that…right? Besides it seems like she just…fainted. Usually that’s not anything too fatal.
It takes a moment for her to look back down again to see wide blue eyes staring straight into her and it startles her a bit. Oh, so she’s awake now, she feels relieved but also a sense of dread washes over her.
“How long was I out?”
To that question Akane just shrugs, she hasn’t really been looking at the time but it felt like a little over five minutes, it felt so short yet so long.
“Around six to seven minutes probably.”
Teru stares up blankly before nodding very stiffly and slowly. She stares up a little more at Akane before she sits up, her movements drunken and she almost falls flat back again but she props herself up on her elbows.
She blinks slowly, adjusting her eyes to the bright light. Akane sees the exact moment her brain starts working again, she sees it when Teru’s eyes widen and her face turns a light shade of pink so light that anyone else wouldn’t be able to notice it. Is she embarrassed?
Akane smiles a little, is she actually embarrassed? This is the only nice thing that came out of this whole situation. Akane doesn’t comment on her embarrassment though. She watches as Teru rolls down the sleeves of her shirt and pants slowly.
“My point from earlier still stands. Why are you wearing such long clothing for the beach?”
She has a small idea but she wants to hear it from Teru herself, even if it’s probably gonna be a vague answer, or no answer at all and just deflection. She has a bit of hope.
Teru glances at her with a sideways glance but doesn’t reply, not yet. She dusts off her clothing and straightens up silently, she’s moving a little aggressively. Is she mad? Akane looks down at her lap awkwardly until she finally hears Treu finally speak—
“Why? Do you wanna see me half naked that bad?”
Teru gives the same answer from when she first asked. What did she even expect? Of course Teru would deflect instead of actually giving a real answer, even if it's something so vague and small. Ugh, she should have tried. She rolls her eyes and looks away, over to the others playing and having fun while she wasted her time here, waiting for Teru to be conscious again.
“You should stay here. I’m gonna go with Aoi-kun now.”
She doesn’t see it but Teru’s face drops into a small pout, her expression becoming one of a kicked puppy. She gets up more and grabs Akane’s wrist before she can go.
“Whaaat? You’re leaving me after I just passed out?! What if I passed out again? Or worse- actually die this time! It’s gonna be your fault for not taking care of me properly!”
Her grip on Akane’s wrist tightens, almost to a desperate degree. Akane looks back confused, eyebrows furrowed and lips curved into a frown.
“I’m sure you’ll be fine, you big baby.”
She huffs, rolling her eyes and she tries to release herself from Teru’s grip but it’s too tight on her, it’s starting to hurt a little. Teru pouts more and her grip doesn’t loosen at all, she tightens it more and pulls Akane down on her.
“Ouch- what was that for?!”
Akane huffs, having landed on Teru’s thigh and Teru is blushing HARD now. She regrets her decision on begging Akane to stay now. Akane takes a moment to realize the position they’re in but when she does she immediately turns red-faced too and yelps back as if Teru had burned her.
That was…embarrassing. They both make a silent agreement to never talk about that ever.
“Seriously, what is your problem?”
Akane huffs, accepting her fate to being bound to Teru (for now). She’s not getting up yet to go with the others…she's just staying here with this stupid girl.
Teru pouts again, her fluster from earlier still evident on her face with the blushes but it's toned down a bit and now she’s being bratty again.
“You can’t just leave an injured person like that! What if I faint again?”
She huffs with a stupid pout, dramatizing the situation more than it needs to be. Akane now wishes that she would just pass out again because she'd rather be annoyed by Teru not waking up rather than her dramatics while she’s awake.
“I’m a hundred percent sure you won’t faint again if you stay here.”
Teru pouts more at that if that’s even possible. She huffs a small “hmph” like the brat she is.
“But then I’d be lonely…and that would mean I came here for nothing…”
She sighs a particularly loud and long sigh that makes Akane question whether she’s talking to the same president from school whom everyone seems to like.
“Well there’s nothing you can do, really. Unless you wanna pass out again.”
“That’s such a narrowed minded way of thinking, Aoi.”
“It’s not my fault you wore long sleeved clothing to the beach.”
She shrugs. Teru huffs, that topic again…she hates how much it’s getting brought up. She knows it’s her own fault but still! She doesn’t want to answer.
“Come on, let's play a game.”
She says, changing the subject. Akane raises an eyebrow because she doesn’t like the sounds of that. When she thinks of games and Teru she thinks about her inevitable fate of being a punching bag.
“No.”
“Come on, pleaaasseee?”
She gives the worst puppy eyes ever. Somehow they work on Akane.
“What game do you want to play?”
“Let’s play truth or dare!”
Great. Just great. She’s trapped herself in this stupid game with this stupid girl! She knows she won’t be able to get out of this unless death itself takes her away.
“What are you, twelve?”
“Come ooonnn it’ll be fun!”
The idea of truth or dare seems to really make Teru excited for some reason, it’s such a basic game though. Besides once you’re in highschool the game sort of becomes bullshit.
“Alright, but I'll go first. Truth or dare?”
Teru huffs, putting her a finger on her chin and thinking very deep in thought about this. She seems to be taking this very seriously.
“Truth.”
Akane’s lips quirk up in a slight smile. She brought this upon herself.
“Alright. Why won’t you just tell me why you’re wearing long sleeved clothing at the beach?”
Teru freezes, her face paling and her face going through ten emotions all at once. Then she can see the exact moment Teru has just come to accept her fate.
“You know why.”
Teru murmurs, not elaborating any further. Of course she’d have an idea, but she really wanted the words out of the girl's mouth herself…but at least she got some answer? Besides when she saw a glimpse of those scars earlier when rolling up the clothes for the passed out girl made her have more of an idea.
“I guess.”
Teru clasps her hands together and startles her a little, the quick switch up startles Akane.
“Alright, truth or dare?”
“Uh dare?”
Shit. She doesn’t know why she said dare, she just said the first thing on her mind. She knows her fate won’t be good…
“Alright then, I dare you to…”
She holds her breath, waiting for Teru to finish her sentence. Oh please don’t be some horrid, embarrassing dare she has to do.
“I dare you to… kiss me on the cheek.”
She sighs a sigh of relief hearing that she won’t have to do something that embarrassing, wait— kiss her on the cheek? What the hell? Did she hear that right?
“I’m sorry what?”
“Yes you heard me! After all I’ve been through today I think I deserve some love! Though you’re not the ideal person I’d want that from…but y’know any love works!”
Her eye twitches and she swears she’d would’ve punched her by now if it weren’t for the situation right now. That reasoning makes no sense, but then again it’s Teru so nothing ever makes sense when it comes out of her mouth.
“Fine. But you better not tell anyone, especially not Aoi-kun.”
Teru giggles and she knows that the girl will probably twist the situation and use it against her. She should’ve left. She could leave at any moment, yet she still stays. Yet she still leans in to give the girl a kiss on her cheek. She blushes as she does, why is she doing this? She easily could’ve got up and left, but noooo, she stayed. Maybe it’s her determination to get any challenge done? That’s what she wants herself to believe so she’s going to blindly think that.
“There, happy?”
Teru is stupidly smiling and she wants to punch (and kiss) that smile off her stupid pretty face sooo bad! Why is she so happy over this kiss? Does Teru like this? No…she’s probably messing with her head.
“I’m done. Have fun being by yourself.”
“Aww already…why?”
Teru frowns and gives her those stupid big eyes, but she won’t fall for it this time!
“Because you’re a pain.”
She huffs and gets up, dusting off the little sand on her body. She turns to see the others having fun while she wasted her time on…this.
But she doesn’t go just yet. She turns back around to Teru and a small smile forms on her lips again, she has an idea. Just to see if her suspicions are true y'know? Totally no other reason.
“Wait- I have one more question.”
Teru immediately perks up at that, it’s quite adorable actually. If she were a puppy her tail would be wagging.
“Yes, what is it?”
She smirks and leans down, Teru tilts her head as she’s a little confused but before she can ask she feels the press of soft lips against hers, she gasps. The same soft lips that kissed her cheek are now kissing her lips, but it's a very short-lived light kiss.
She pulls back just as quickly as she leaned in and gives Teru a little smile before she turns and heads straight to Aoi, leaving Teru sitting there, confused and embarrassingly flustered.
“What..? Wait-”
She reaches out weakly, and a little delayed because Akane is already gone in the distance, laughing with Aoi and the others while she leaves Teru sitting there completely dumfounded! Her thoughts are a scramble. She sits there conflicted, while Akane can just leave her and forget about her so easily. She feels like she just got played.
She feels so stupid.
