Chapter Text
With all the knowledge in the world, you should have seen this coming.
Avery had quick reaction time, Derek knew that. He knew everything about Avery, and one thing he knew for sure was that he was great at PvP. Much better than Derek was. Once he had laughed imagining a world where they had gotten to play against each other. He wouldn't stand a chance against Avery.
And so, despite the dread of realizing his plan had failed, he couldn't say he was surprised when Avery dodged his attempt to hit him off the platform. It was worth a try.
I SAID IM NOT LEAVING
avery please
please idont want you to get hurt
its not up to you d3rlord
a wave of hurt washed over derek at that. he found it endearing how avery still called him that despite learning his real name. he wished he could hear it again and again and again
i wont leave you here i wont let you die and were going to figure this out together
i know you dont want to die
he heard himself crying. he knew avery was right. he did not want to die. he wanted to live, so, so badly. he would give anything to see avery face to face, to hear avery call him d3rlord in real life no matter how silly it was, anything, he would give anything
its ok avery
i dont have much to live for anyways
he believed he was telling the truth
you have me
Derek's hands hovered uselessly over the keyboard as he tried to think of something, anything to say that could possibly get Avery to safety. They stood in stunned silence for a few moments, both out of things to say.
He thought of something. He started typing. Nothing showed up.
He tried to move. His computer was frozen. It was bound to happen at some point with how long he'd had Minecraft open, but now was not the time-
then it shut down, and oh god it hurts, fucking hell, it hurts, stopstopstopstopstopstopstopstopstop
He tried to turn it back on but he couldn't keep himself up long enough to tell if it worked or not. He couldn't sit up and he accepted collapsing onto the floor. He knew what the floor was made of he knew who lived in this apartment before him he knew where they were now he knew who would live here after him he knew he knew he knew he knew he knew
avery
as he slipped out of consciousness, his mind racing, he picked out one final thought:
you are so cruel for making me want to live.
