Chapter Text
Zak flops down at the kitchen table, barely giving a greeting to Randy and Jake. Neither of them really notices him anyways since Jake basically fallen asleep again while Randy has been drawing on Jake’s arm with a magic marker; if it’s washable is something that Zak doesn’t know. However, that’ll be Randy’s problem when the time comes.
Ben is in the middle of making breakfast – while keeping an eye on Ken, who’s in the living room watching Spongebob. A TV series that Danny had brought to the tower on day and never explained where it came from. Actually, speaking of Danny, Zak haven’t seen the guy yet and wonders what he could be up to.
“Here you are, Dr. Saturday!” A scientist had come marching into the kitchen with a nerves looking intern following close behind. “I looked everywhere for you!”
“Clearly not everywhere,” Randy mumbles; only snapping his mouth close when Jake elbows him in the stomach.
However, that’s not the issues. It’s the fact that the scientist is blocking their view of Ken in the living room. That had set Ben on edge with Jake being a close second; both having the same instinct to protect their youngest. The intern looks close to crying while the scientist is far to use to them to care. Frankly, they shouldn’t be that scary; Jake has bright orange starts littering his arms, Randy is wearing a bathrobe over his suit, Ben has one of his grandfather’s ‘kiss the chief’ apron, and Zak looks half-dead due to a late night of researching.
“Just give me the thing,” the scientist said while the intern slips around them and hands Zak a metal box. “Look it over and then come to my lab on 2B.” Everyone watches the scientist and intern leave before anyone could say anything.
Zak set down the box – ignoring the argument between Jake and Randy, which everyone is used to at this point – and flip the lid open after putting the code in. A plate of pancakes is place in the middle of the table before Ben hovers behind him. There’s only a small glass tube with some kind of bright orange goo inside. It’s nothing that Zak have seen before and from the looks of things, none of the others know what it is either.
“What is it?” Ben questions; taking the vial.
“Don’t know, never seen it before.”
Zak leans back into his chair to see that Danny has finally made an appearance. He’s playing on his phone while sitting with Ken and sometimes watching the screen; there’s this unreadable expression on Danny’s face whenever he actually looks at the scene. It’s something similar he had seen on Zeke a few times; a look of longing to something that he can’t have. Which doesn’t make much sense when Danny is looking at a cartoon sponge.
“Hey, can you look at something!?”
Danny ruffles Ken’s hair before getting up and coming over; only taking a vial from Ben hands it to him.
“Globulous Maximus…” Danny mumbles; his words barely auditable. However, he shrugs and hands it back like it’s nothing, even though clearly that’s not true. “No idea. Lock it up anyways, don’t want something like that taking over the world.”
Danny quickly disappears out of sight, leaving the four of them in confusion.
“So, we’re all in agreement that Danny knows more than he’s letting on, right?”
Everyone agrees with Randy.
