Chapter Text
It was an average day in the Crossroads. Birds chirping, flowers blooming. People filled the streets as they commuted to wherever they needed to be. Sword was on his way to his best friend Rocket’s house! Usually the two would hang out at Sword’s place, but they wanted to take the opportunity of Zuka being out for the week to hang out.
Sword hoped he had the right address, as he only came here once before. Once he found the abode he walked up the front steps and gently knocked on the door. He waited a couple of seconds and knocked again, and again.. and again. Sword was becoming impatient and right before he was about to bang on the door—Rocket swung it open.
“Spawn— can you not pound on my door?” Rocket grumbled out as he looked at Sword. Rocket was still in his pajamas, clearly looking like he had just been woken up despite the late hour. He blinked a few times before looking at Sword. “Ah, sorry. Come on in.” Rocket gestured into his house as he allowed Sword to follow in behind him.
“Did I wake you?” Sword chuckled out, poking Rockets back as he walked behind him. “Yeah.. I stayed up too late helping Zuka pack. It’s hard to pack clothes with one hand.” Sword nodded and continued to follow Rocket. “You can leave your shoes and gear there,” Rocket gestured to the shoe rack next to the door, “Please don’t wear shoes in the house.” Sword nodded and took off his shoes like asked.
Rocket went back to his room, needing to not only change, but also wake up a bit more. Sword followed behind, feet gently padding against the carpet. Sword always liked how Rocket’s house smelled. It reminded him of his grandma’s house. “Ssoo.. Any plans for right now?”
Rocket shook his head, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “I didn’t expect you to come here so early.. You kinda scared me when you first knocked.” Rocket softly spoke, voice rough from just waking up. “Sorry about that.. I almost started to think you were sick or not home.” Rocket chuckled at Sword’s words and walked into his room.
He went to his closet and picked out a simple outfit—a t-shirt and shorts. He didn’t feel like wearing his gear today. Rocket set the clothes on his bed and began to undress—Sword immediately looked away and walked out of Rocket’s room, not wanting to stare at Rocket changing. He stood by Rockets room, and waited patiently.
Rocket only took a minute or two before he walked out and went to the living room, Sword trailed behind him. Rocket didn’t mind Sword following him, at least he knew Sword wasn’t getting into trouble.
Rocket sat down on the couch while Sword walked behind it and leaned against the back of the couch. Rocket turned on the morning news channel. “—and the Crossroads area will get hit with this storm in about the next hour, with a high chance of storms and even hail!” The meteorologist spoke, each word making Rocket get increasingly worried.
He hated thunderstorms. They were always loud and bad news. Sword looked down at Rocket, seeing his hunched shoulders and tense expression. Rocket was never good at hiding his emotions. “Hey, you alright?” Sword softly murmured, not wanting to startle Rocket. Rocket blinked a few times and let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding.
“Yeah.. just not a big fan of storms.” Sword grinned and stood up straight, then posed like one of those statues depicting warriors, “I’ll protect you! You don’t have to worry about a thing when I’m here!” Rocket said triumphantly, then ruffled Rocket’s hair. Rocket chuckled at Swords enthusiasm.
“.. Thanks.” Rocket looked back at the television, the news had cut to an ad break. Rocket took this time to get up and at least get toast for breakfast. Sword stayed in the living room, climbing over the back of the couch to sit down—well he actually laid down instead of sitting down, but it was close enough.
Rocket walked back in with a piece of toast. He didn’t mind that Sword was taking up 90% of the couch, they both fit anyway. Rocket turned the channel to the usual CartoonNetwork and PBSKids. Rocket never was a news channel person. He didn’t understand how Zuka could watch that all day.
Sword thought for a moment, thinking of things to do for that day. There wasn’t much they could do—it was about to storm. “You got any board games?” Sword spoke, looking over to Rocket. Rocket thought for a moment, then stood up and walked to the entertainment center, opening a couple of cabinets.
Sword couldn’t see what was inside from where he was sitting, but Rocket nervously swallowed as he closed the cabinets and walked back over to the couch. “Nah. Zuka usually keeps them in the shop—“ Rocket was about to continue when Sword interpreted “Can we get them?” Rocket was quiet, then continued, “.. I don’t have the keys, so no.”
Sword hummed, going back to thinking. Rocket turned back to the tv and watched whatever cartoon was on at that moment. Sword wracked his mind for ideas, he made the joke to himself that him and Rocket could go to a party, but none would be happening at 10:42 am.
“.. You wanna go walk around town?” Sword spoke, looking over at Rocket. Rocket thought for a second and softly sighed, he didn’t want to go out today, but it wouldn’t kill him. “Sure, why not?” Sword practically jumped off the couch—scrambling to the door. “Jeez, you’re like a dog.” Rocket chuckled as he got up and walked towards the door.
Sword hurriedly put his shoes on as Rocket slowly followed. Before Rocket could blink Sword was out the front door, clearly excited. Rocket got up. grabbed the house key, and walked out, locking the door behind him.
