Chapter 1: The First Bloom

Chapter Text

Nom tried to take everything in. There was so much bustle around the blue kingdom, but not in a bad way, it almost felt.. hopeful. He had spent his past few days introducing all the new members of the kingdom to one another, helping them settle, and just doing his knightly duties for the kingdom. On his way back to the well well well someone caught his eye. He searched his mind for the man's name and it came to him Scott Springwell.

I didn't get a good look at him before, but God, he-he's stunning. ,Nom thought to himself, The way his blonde hair catches in the light, his stunning green eyes, there's something almost otherworldly about him.

His train of thought was quickly interrupted when the man began to speak to him.

"Hello! You're Nom, right?"

Nom turned to him, almost shy, "Yeah, do you need any help with anything? I mean like getting a house together or.."

Nom fell silent and his cheeks turned red. I need to stop talking, I'm just rambling at this point.

What if I've annoyed him?

Why am I so socially awkward? I'm going to weird him out and-

"Nom?" Scotts voice broke the awkward silence. "I don't think I need any help at the moment, but thank you so much for the offer!"

Scott flashed Nom a kind smile as he turned to leave, and Nom awkwardly smiled back.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The Next Day~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Nom began his day early, after all there were a lot of repairs needed to get blue kingdom up and running again. He stepped out of the well well well and took a good look at the kingdom, which, despite destroyed, still felt like home to him.
Nom heard a voice off in the distance, "Hey Nom, could you quit standing there and help me fix the door to the knight barracks?"
It was Owain. That man had a talent for staying serious and always doing things for the kingdom.
"Coming" Nom replied
Nom stared to walk down the hill, admiring how the wheat fields were already being replenished. He continued to walk down the path till he reached Owain.
"Took you long enough" The knight said
"I'm here now!" Nom argued Can this guy chill? Nom thought
The two proceeded to lift the fallen door and reattach it to the building. The door was heavy, and Nom began to see why Owain had grown impatient quickly.
"Well, now that's done. I think I'm going to take a walk round the kingdom, see if there's anything urgent that needs to be done."
Owain nodded, still being his stoic self, and Nom walked away.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Nom started towards the castle. Despite the crumbling walls and vines stretched around it, it still had a sort of majesty to it. The ancient stone had managed to hold for the most part, and the sun glistened through the remaining windows. He continued his trek, now a few feet from the bridge. He glanced at the bridge and saw none other than the plant mage! Nom's heart began to race.
How does he still look so etherial? We've literally been cleaning up rubble all day..
He continued to walk towards Scott when, all of the sudden, the plant mage slipped. Nom sprinted towards him, being careful to avoid the other holes in the bridge. He reached Scott just in time, jerking him back by his arm. The two landed in a heap on the bridge.
"Scott! Are you okay, I knew I should've patched this up earlier." Nom looked away.
"Don't worry, I'm fine. Thank you for catching me, this spot on the bridge is pretty close to the cliffside..."
Nom blushed, he looked back at Scott, then realized how close they were.
Nom scrambled away. "Sorry! I didn't realize how close we were."
Scott blushed, "No need to worry about it.. you literally just saved my life."
I would do anything for you. Nom thought, staring into Scotts green eyes, noticing now how they reflected the light, how gentle they were.
Nom gave Scott a nod and kneeled down to begin repairing the bridge. To his surprise, the plant mage kneeled beside him and began to conjure vines to help hold the old stone in place as Nom began to repair it.
They stayed like this till the bridge was finished, having light conversation about Bannerfall.
"Honestly, despite it being pretty run down, I think I'm going to enjoy my time here." Scott remarked
"What makes you say that?" Nom inquired
"Well, it seems I've got good company" Scott gave Nom a warm smile, a smile that truly reassured the knight, a smile that made him feel.. loved.
Nom smiled back, and started to rise to his feet. He loved this time with Scott, but he knew Owain would not be very happy to see him sitting around for much longer.
"I'll see you around" Nom said, making his way into the castle.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
"BOO!" A voiced said
Nom nearly jumped out of his armor. He turned to see who it was, and it was none other than the not-so-stealthy-rouge Mae Maezes.
"I'll admit you got me that time" The knight remarked
"Well I am a super stealthy rouge who always blends into the shadows, so there's really no shame in that" Mae checked her nails as if this were some easy task.
"Right" Nom rolled his eyes and started to continue into the castle.
"Wait! Nom!" Mae shouted
The knight reluctantly turned around. "What?"
"I saw what just happened~ You and Scott flirting" She sang, "And I think you guys would be really cute together."
"And?" Nom questioned
"And- I can give you some dating advice" Mae said, "Like first, you should give him a flower, they are soo romantic, and what better gift than that for the nature mage?"
She may be right, maybe I should think about that, it couldn't go wrong surely.
"Fine" Nom stated, "If you think that will help with my lack of romance, I'll give it a try"
