Steve lets himself into the apartment and collapses onto the couch beside Eddie with a huff, face drawn. He reaches a hand out, and Eddie obligingly passes him his half-smoked joint. “Bad date, huh?”
“I think I fucked up,” Steve confesses, taking a long drag.
“Look who you’re talking to, Harrington. C’mon, lay it on me.”
“I don’t know,” Steve said, waving the joint around as he talked. “Somehow we got on the topic of, like, sexual fantasies –”
“Gee, I wonder how.”
Steve ignores him. “And she tells me that she’s always dreamt of.” He pauses, a blush creeping up his neck. “A threesome.”
Huh. “Go Laurie," Eddie says, "Didn’t know she had that in her. What’d you say?”
“ …. I said yes.” Steve groans and buries his face in the couch cushions once more.
Eddie snorts. “What’s the matter? Worried you can’t handle two girls at once?”
Steve is silent.
“What?”
“She, uh – she doesn’t wanna do it with. With another girl.”
Oh. That was ... He’d known Steve for years, and Steve was as straight as straight could be. Sure, Eddie had always quietly hoped, of course, a stubborn high school crush that refused to die. But he knew that was a lost cause.
But.
But Steve had said yes. Steve had said yes, and the implications of that were enough to send all of Eddie’s nerves alight with excitement.
“I don’t know why I said it! It just … slipped out. I mean, I guess it doesn’t really matter, no one she’s gonna find someone willing to do that in Hawkins.”
“I’ll do it.”
Eddie mentally kicks himself. It’s stupid, and reckless, and a hell of a lot selfish, given his true feelings for Steve.
But Steve seems to really care for this girl, and if he's willing to go this far to fulfill a stupid fantasy for her, one he obviously didn't share, then she must be something special.
Besides, that’s what friends are for, right?
