   Summary

   Edelgard was prepared for Byleth to side with the Church of Seiros and stand against her. The closure of rejection would’ve hurt, but it would’ve placed her firmly as an enemy in her mind. She might’ve even found it in herself to hate her former professor, to believe her blind and corrupt and an obstacle to what Fódlan could become.
   She wasn’t ready to have Byleth taken away from her. To receive acceptance and a promise of protection she thought herself foolish to hope for. It was all that she wanted and thought she’d never have, her teacher, standing between her and danger once again, without even having to think about it. And then Byleth was gone, with no explanation.
   The archbishop had many crimes to pay for, Edelgard reminded herself, but she couldn’t help but to think about the last time she saw her teacher's eyes whenever she sharpened her axe.
