Chapter Text
Prologue
You had become friends with Mob. You got along well… you exchanged numbers and Discord usernames.
The next day, Verity began his plan.
“Hey Reader, why don’t you invite our new friend Mob to your world?” he asked in that innocent tone he always used with every human who installed him.
“You told me you didn’t like other people coming into our world…” you replied, confused by your helper friend Verity’s request.
“Weeell, there’s nothing wrong with trying to be nice to a guest in our world… Like you always say, one step at a time, right?” He hoped you would agree. He needed Mob here. He wanted to confront him for dancing with that guy.
“I’m glad you changed your mind, Verity!” you smiled at the computer screen.
“Oh, but don’t tell Mob anything! Let it be a surprise,” he said, jumping excitedly in his ball form, trying to hide how impatient he was.
“Why can’t I tell him?”
“Just trust me, Reader… After all, I’m your helper friend and I would never do anything bad to hurt you or your friend, right?” he smiled while sitting on top of the building cube.
“Alright, Verity,” you said, grabbing your phone. You searched for Mob’s contact, put it to your ear, and listened to the ringing until you heard his voice.
---
“Hey, Reader. Is something wrong?”
“Oh no, I just wanted to call and invite you to my world. I need your help building my house better…”
“I don’t know, Reader…”
“Come on, you know I’m not very good at this. I need your help, Mob!”
“…..”
“Please?..”
“Fine, I’ll do it… Just send me the link to your world.”
“Oh thank you, thank you! Tonight?”
“Tonight. Bye, Reader.”
“Bye, Mob!”
---
After ending the call, you put your phone aside and looked back at Verity.
“Soooo… what did Mob say?” he asked, even though the question was pointless—he had heard the entire conversation. Hearing Mob’s voice again made him tremble with excitement.
“He accepted! He’s going to connect tonight with his new computer and enter my world,” you smiled. You were going to play with Mob in your world.
“Perfect, Reader. I promise the three of us are going to have so much fun!” he started jumping, showing how excited he was.
This time he would do it right. This time he wouldn’t make the same mistake. He would get Mob back. Now that he could move between devices, all he needed was for Mob to connect to Reader’s world so he could transfer to his new computer and return to his side.
Poor, poor Reader. You had just condemned your friend to return to the “arms” of an obsessive AI.
If you hadn’t gone to that karaoke, Verity would never have seen Mob again…
He wouldn’t have wanted to have him back.
You wouldn’t have become the tool he needed to get him back.
Maybe he would let you go, since you helped him and were a good friend.
Or maybe he would just kill you and forget about you.
After all, he only wanted Mob back.
You weren’t that important.
