Chapter Text
CHANEL
“What the fuck..?”
I could hear the terrified mumbling of those around me. We all sat uncomfortably around a dinner table while I tried to comprehend whatever situation I got myself in.
-
A few hours ago, I found myself curled on a horribly hard bed. The room I was in was unfamiliar, seemingly old based on the peeling paint all over the walls, and a random yellowed painting that looked like it was made by Da Vinci himself or um.. some other artist? The room looked like some stingy hotel room. Before I could try to find any clues concerning my whereabouts, we were all instructed by some speaker to proceed along the main hallway.
The motel was surprisingly not THAT sketchy considering the fact we just got kidnapped.. I suppose? It was quite big, with random boxes littered everywhere and hallways full of identical rooms. While walking, I noticed a bunch of people going through the hall, each looking either confused, nervous, or.. Angry? I could see one guy with a buzz cut who looked like he was absolutely fuming.
I counted about 19 people. The hall was eerily silent. It seemed no one knew each other except for two guys making small talk. I planned on talking to them when the time came.
-
I took a peek at the people beside me. On the left was a Caucasian brown-haired guy who looked.. broke and lacked style. I'm pretty sure this was the same guy I saw earlier. He leaned on his chair, arms crossed, and his legs disgusting spread. Absolutely gross. And the girl next to me-
Uhm, she glared right back at me.
We made eye contact, her eyes narrowing with a stern, scary expression. Was she analyzing me or something? Not to overreact but I have literally never been this scared of a person this badly in my life, if anything, I'm the scary one. After a few agonizing seconds of staring and my internal panicking, she broke into a modest smile and reached her hand out. I'm never trusting people with resting bitch faces anymore.
“I'm Fallon. Nice to meet you,” she spoke with formality. Her voice was as smooth as unsaltedbutteronmyfavoritetraditionalsourdoughfrom—geez.. Did they knock me out with a bat before this??
“Oh- I'm Chanel, nice to meet you too! Heh. I own a tailoring shop, what about you? Oh, and your hair is really pretty too!” I reciprocated her gesture and shook her hand, still holding it while waiting for a response. She seemed to light up at what I said.
“Thanks. By any chance, is it Chanel's tailoring? I've gotten some clothes there before.” “OH, yeah! My clothes must just really be amazing heh.” “It's definitely popular. Anyways, I own a bakery. It's named Fallon's bakery.” Her response left my jaw wide open.
I was astounded, to say the least. To say that I love Fallon’s bakery is an understatement, I survive off it. “SERIOUSLY?? NO WAY, YOUR TRADITIONAL SOURDOUGH LOAVES ARE ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. HEHE I LOVE YOU.” I grabbed both Fallon's hands in pure joy and shock, probably leaving her dumbfounded.
Suddenly, my moment of pure joy and bliss was interrupted when the speakers came back to life with an uncomfortably loud static, prodding us to drop the conversation.
“Welcome, contestants. We assume a lot of you are wondering what you're doing here. All 20 of you are in a social deduction game called Mafia. In a few hours, night will begin. During this period, a member of the mafia, who is among you, may kill one person. If you want to know what role you've been given, you may check the note in your pocket. Fortunately, the good team is equipped with two doctors, who I'm sure are very skilled. As of now, there are 3 mafias among you, and 4 members of the evil team. Best of luck to everyone.”
The room was left with silence, the terrified and confused expressions on everyone's faces was evident. I mean, we were kidnapped to kill each other? Are we being filmed or is this real?? There's no way I'm dying THIS early.. I'm barely even 22.
“Dude.. You're joking. This shit is hilarious.” The guy with a buzz cut cackled mockingly, cutting through the confused silence as heads turned towards him. He laid his hands behind his neck, disrespectfully laying both his feet on the table.
“Just be quiet and listen.. Gosh.” A man with dark brown hair laid his head on his hand, clearly annoyed and stressed. I could tell everyone silently agreed with him, and silently because that same man with a buzz cut gave him a mix of a pure look of disgust and a death stare. However, he shrugged it off. What a hero. As I thought those wannabe rebels were finally shut up, another one spoke.
“Well either way, that's a pretty fucking flimsy explanation for a killing game. Good job robot,” a girl with black hair and ..red wings? irately added, emphasizing her point with a quoting action. Unfortunately, that didn't land very well on the unsentient robot.
“Unfortunately, this is not a joke. If you would like to be an example, feel free to add to your point,” the robot snapped back, its lack of consciousness being the cherry on top. Some guy with white hair stifled a laugh after that response, but was quickly glared at by the two ‘rebels’. “Now, if you please, utilize the remaining time to introduce yourselves and explore the map. You may find food outside. As for basic necessities like showers and beds, please find the rooms you've woken up in.” Right, I'm pretty sure I woke up in room 107.
“Geez, this robot’s got an attitude.” The same man with the buzz cut huffed, his eyes narrowed in annoyance. After finally placing his legs in a normal position, he stood up first, some others following shortly after.
I stood up, patting my shorts down. When I looked up, I realized Fallon was still here, turning around, about to leave. I didn't expect to be taller than her, I expected her to have a pretty built figure..? Well- anyways, my model physique is clearly unmatched! What can I say, I'm honestly perfect. Thanks mom and dad!
Before she passed me, I quickly called her, “Hey—Fallon, wanna walk together? You're like.. The only person I know here. I mean, I make friends quickly but you seem cool.” “Sure, I don't mind.” She stopped with a smile, looking back at me before taking the initiative to start walking out the room as I followed from behind. That was a lot easier than I had imagined.
We made our way down the hallway while I stared at the little details in the motel. There were ancient-looking paintings littered all over the walls, with the occasional lockers. It smelled of paint and flowers, which was somewhat comforting.
“Chanel, I've been meaning to ask. Have you seen your role yet?” Fallon quickly snapped me out of my thinking.
“Oh, not yet. I'm probably gonna check it when I'm in my room, ya know. I'm scared someone's gonna peek,” I replied, suddenly feeling the outside of my pockets for the note, hoping it wasn't something bad.
By the time we made it outside, we could hear people talking nearby. I was finally met with fresh air, walking on the grass that smelled absolutely perfect. We all need a little bit of nature.
“Theres a gas station over there, they must have gone there.” “Oh—right! Let's hurry, I'm practically STARVING.”
I sprinted over to the gas station, tripping over the sudden concrete surface on the way.
Fallon quickly grabbed me by the shoulder, looking disappointed. “Calm down, will you..?” “Ahha… My bad…” She reminded me of my mother.. To be honest.
The gas station was pretty large, with chairs and tables taking up most of the space. It was almost a cafeteria since the food was free—well, we don't have money anyways.
The same guy with light brown hair was sitting with a white-haired man. I didn't waste any time and immediately rushed over, with Fallon calmly walking behind me.
“Hey! Can we sit here?” “Hm? Sure! By the way, the names Luke, and this guy is Callum.” Luke signaled for me and Fallon to sit beside him. He was casually sitting down, a hand gripping the base of his chair as he leaned on it. Meanwhile, Callum seemed pretty preoccupied with his burger—speaking of that, I haven't even gotten my food yet..
“Also, hope you're hungry ‘cuz I kinda got too much food,” Luke added, slightly sliding his tray over to me and Fallon. What perfect timing!
“Wait, really?? THANKS, YOU'RE A LIFESAVER!”
