Your Honor, We're Dating

Summary:

After a story of vandalism in the school, Mizuki, local troublemaker, is their only suspect when it's actually something she hasn't done. Mafuyu, knowing she's innocent, decides to speak to the administration to drop the charges, which they will only accept if she can prove she changed.

And Mafuyu seriously should learn how to think before speaking.

Chapter Text

Monday mornings usually meant sleepy classrooms and unfinished homework.

Instead, they found the student council office covered in crimson paint.

Someone had shattered the glass display beside the entrance, overturned filing cabinets, and left dripping handprints across the walls. Teachers rushed through the corridors while students crowded the hallway, whispering theories before the first period had even begun.

"Did you hear?"

"They already know who did it."

"Apparently it was Akiyama."

Of course it was.

She had skipped class and pulled harmless pranks before. She had earned herself enough detentions to make the staff sigh whenever they saw her name on a report.

So when a teacher appeared at the classroom door and called her to the principal's office, nobody looked surprised.

Mizuki hummed, standing up from her chair, “That's a new one. I don't even like the student council enough to vandalize it.”

The teacher just rolled their eyes, patiently waiting for her to join them. Mizuki huffed, doing a fist bump with An as she walked between the desks, leaving the classroom.

Mafuyu watched from their classroom Mizuki getting led by a teacher to the principal's office. They raised an eyebrow, silently wondering why– then it hit them.

Right…The vandalism.

They frowned, raising their hand before politely asking if they could go to the bathroom. The teacher nodded, letting them leave the classroom, which they quickly did.

While they knew their childhood friend was full of trouble, they also knew Mizuki had been online with Nightcord until well past midnight. They'd been working on a song together the entire evening. There wasn't a moment she could've slipped away unnoticed.

They sighed quietly, knocking on the principal's office door, hearing a tired “Come in” before opening the door.

“Mizuki is innocent.” They declared firmly.

The office fell silent.

Mizuki blinked before a grin slowly spread across her face, "See?" she said. "Someone believes me.”

The principal cleared his throat, resting his hands on his desk before looking up at Mafuyu, “Mx Asahina, even if, somehow, you'd be correct, Miss Akiyama has a history of misconduct. Whether she committed this incident or not, we have no reason to believe she's become a more responsible student.”

“She changed.” Mafuyu stated.

“Could you provide an exemple ?” The older man asked.

Mafuyu searched for something—anything—that proved Mizuki had changed.

Better grades? No.

Fewer detentions? Also no.

Community service?

...

"...We're dating.”

Mizuki turned around so quickly she nearly fell out of her chair, “We're what ?” She mouthed, eyes wide enough to rival the broken windows outside.

Mafuyu almost regretted the words as soon as they fell out of their mouth. They kept their posture steady, their hands behind their back.

No going back now.

Well.

Fuck.
