Work Text:
It was a long time coming Megumi thinks, after all he had been noticing the signs. Satoru has always been clingy but he had been worse the past few weeks. He just HAD to be next to Megumi at all times whether it be at school or at home. He’d even begged Megumi to come stay with him, swearing up and down that sleep wouldn’t come if he wasn’t in Megumi’s arms. And, while Megumi complained the whole time, he loved doting on Satoru - in fact Satoru should only be spoiled by Megumi, thank you very much.
Even with all his complains, he would come up with the perfect excuses to evade Yuji and Nobara’s constant investigation on where he would disappear off to during any given free time. Sometimes it was writing reports, sometimes it was needing rest and so forth. As soon as he would be done for the day, he’d run off to Satoru’s place. While it irritated him to no end that he’d constantly get called “the perfect wife” by Satoru for fixing his meals and the apartment, he hated it even more that it made his body heat up.
He’d wait up for Satoru no matter how late and make sure he ate and slept properly. If he could, he would do this forever. While Satoru was clingy, he was hyper independent to a fault and never relied on anyone. Megumi did harbor guilt for feeling superior over being the only person Satoru let his defenses down on - truly wished that the man would rely more on others but, he knew it would kill him if he saw Satoru act like this with anyone else.
It all started with the man being all over Megumi’s skin during missions and training, which was not anything new to others around them, but Megumi noticed how his grip was too tight or how closely he would be plastered to him like Megumi would disappear into thin air. He wouldn’t even deny his favoritism towards Megumi anymore, in fact he’d taken it upon himself to constantly refer to Megumi as his favorite. And, it was Megumi who would get constantly made fun of for being Satoru’s princess.
“Your reactions are better than his.” Is what Nobara had told him when he’d pointed out that he was getting picked on unfairly.
Satoru would materialize inside Megumi’s dorm room, claiming a knock on the door shouldn’t come between two lovers, hogging up his bed and making sure any free time he had must be spent with Megumi. If Megumi’s schedule came in between that time then Satoru would be extra pouty, resulting in Ijichi coming under Satoru’s fire more than usual.
The final icing on the cake was being caught cuddling each other in the dorm’s shared lounge. It had been their tradition to stay up late watching movies together with Tsumiki for a long time but after moving to Jujutsu Tech, movie nights had been rare. If they did watch something, it would be with the rest of the students. So being caught cuddling red handed by Maki one day at 4 in the morning had been Megumi’s last straw and he’d given into Satoru’s pleas of going back to his apartment after missions and classes.
It had been going like this for a few weeks now but the past few days Satoru’s demeanor had changed. He was quieter, the usual mask of smugness he wore was not as effective and while most people around them didn’t take notice, Megumi did. He could see how his usual grin wasn’t reaching his eyes, how his eyes barely had any life in them and that crushed his soul. So, he had been making sure to take extra care of Satoru, to always be there to welcome him back, to remind him that there were people waiting for Satoru Gojo as a person and not as the strongest.
So when he heard a loud crash at the genkan at 5 am, he knew that Satoru had hit his limit. Megumi had refused to sleep properly lately just so he could be there to greet Satoru when he came back - a small act of love to remind him that Megumi would always be there for him. He had been waiting the whole night despite the roughhousing he had received from the second years at training today, constantly looking at his phone for any word from Satoru but it had been silent the whole night.
He’d run over to the genkan and silently sat next to Satoru hugging him because it was clear that the man in front of him was just a human, not the weapon Jujutsu society had made him out to be. He sat next to him for a while before pulling him up and heading to the bathroom.
“Satoru, let’s get you cleaned up and ready for bed. I’m here, you’re home now.”
Satoru’s silence didn’t deter Megumi. They’d been together for years now, he knew how Satoru would get holed up at times so he helped the man into the bath he’d prepared. Just silently helped the man bathe and sat on the edge of the tub stroking his head. They stayed like that for a good while before Satoru tugged Megumi’s hand as a signal to get out. Megumi helped him dry his hair and get dressed while neither spoke a word.
“Satoru, do you think you can eat, I have-“
“Gumi, sorry, I think I want to be alone today.”
Megumi stilled for a moment. It hurt seeing him in so much pain and it hurt worse that he wanted to be alone. He cupped Satoru’s face gently before asking
“Are you sure?”
and when Satoru gave no response back, he just sighed.
“Let’s get you to bed and I’ll be on my way, okay?”
Satoru just nodded in return.
Megumi tucked his lover into bed, gave him a small peck on his forehead. He really did not want to leave, he was hurt and wanted to cry at Satoru turning even his affection away but, he knew that sometimes solitude was needed and didn’t want to rob Satoru of the few free moments he had and needed to himself.
“I’ll be on my way. Sleep well, Satoru. Please, text me if you need anything. I love you.”
He waited for a few moments but hearing no response come back from Satoru, he exited the room. Quickly, clearing up the kitchen and wrapping up Satoru’s dinner, Megumi picked up his belongings and headed outside. He was about to pick up the hoodie he had brought along with him, but decided to leave it there, another small mark of his existence, to remind Satoru that Megumi was there for him.
On the cab back home, Megumi left a ton of texts to Satoru, reminding him that he is loved and worried for by many. He must’ve looked funny to the driver with the way he was constantly pressing his eyes with his palms to make sure he didn’t cry. He wished he could catch up to Satoru soon so that the man wouldn’t have to bear all the responsibilities alone. Felt angry at the higher ups for using Satoru like a weapon and felt angrier at himself for not being of any help to him.
By the time he reached school, it was already 7. He ran across a concerned looking Yuji, who was already up for the day, asking Megumi if he was okay, but Megumi just cited fatigue and excused himself quickly so that he wouldn’t break in front of Yuji.
Looking at his silent phone, it was already 9, he kept tossing and turning but couldn’t feel a wink of sleep coming with all the worry he harbored. He had the day off today but wondered if it would be best if he quit trying to force sleep to come and just head to his friends. Just as he was about to push his blankets away from frustration, he felt the cursed energy before he saw the man. His hair was disheveled, bore baggy eyes and was wearing the hoodie Megumi had left behind. Megumi immediately shot up and ran towards him.
“Satoru?”
“Satoru, what’s wrong?”
“Please, just say something, Satoru, plea-“
Megumi’s breath was knocked out from how hard Satoru pulled him into a hug.
“I’m kidnapping you, Gumi, I can’t sleep without you.”
And the next thing he knew, they were back in Satoru’s bedroom, bodies tied together.
Satoru just grabbed his hand and dragged him into his bed wrapping himself around Megumi’s chest and nuzzling his face on his neck. Megumi was stunned for a moment but quickly raised his hand and let his fingers graze against Satoru’s scalp, slowly massaging his head, happily drowning in the small sighs that Satoru was exhaling.
“Gumi, I’m so sorry, you waited up for me and I made you go away”, Satoru said with the smallest voice ever making Megumi’s heart ache.
“You don’t have to be sorry, it’s okay to want to be alone at times, Satoru. Did something happen today?”
“No. Just this load of work and always having to clean up everyone’s mess got to me. I’m just tired. I wanna quit. I quit. Let’s run away, Megumi.”
Megumi chuckled softly. Satoru was slowly coming back. He placed the gentlest kiss on his forehead, smiling.
“I’m sorry you’re made to do so much. But, just a few more years and we will all have caught up and will be next to you. I promise, Toru, it won’t be long.”
Satoru finally raised his head, with a full blown pout, slowly coming back to the Satoru that Megumi knew.
“No, I just said I quit Gumi. We quit. We’re running away. I can’t do this anymore.”
Megumi just laughed at that, hugging Satoru tightly.
“You say that but I know you’re too kind to leave everything behind like that. Plus, do you not want to stick around to see the seeds you planted grow and have your allies change the jujutsu society for the better?”
“I want to but, this is so unfair Megumi, having one man run around everywhere while these cowards just sit on their stupid chairs acting mighty. Should I kill them all?”
“Just a few more years and we all will kill them together. How about that, Toru?”
Suddenly Satoru shot up, caging him between his hands, looking at him with a gaze so intense, making Megumi feel shy and look away. He ran his fingers across Megumi’s lips eliciting a small whimper from him before sinking down and capturing Megumi’s lips. Megumi wrapped his arms around Satoru’s neck, pulling the older man closer, pouring his soul into the kiss. Megumi let himself be devoured by Satoru, moaning softly when Satoru nibbled on his lips before letting it go with a small pop. They stared at each other panting heavily before Satoru plopped back into Megumi’s chest.
“I don’t deserve you, Megumi. I made you leave even though you waited for me the whole night, why aren’t you mad at me?
“Hmm, why would I be mad?” Megumi asked as he played with Satoru’s hair “You’re just human, it’s only natural to want some time alone. I said I’d be there for you, didn’t I? Plus, you’re not getting rid of me that easy, Toru.”
Finally, Satoru laughed, flashing his true smile, the one that was solely reserved for Megumi. The smile that warmed Megumi’s heart so much that it made him thankful he was the heir to Ten Shadows that made their paths cross. Megumi wasn’t a believer of destiny and fate but when he sees Satoru like this, he truly believes that he was fated for no one else but Satoru.
“If we can’t run away then marry me now, Megumi. I need you around at all times or I’ll finally snap and purple the whole country out.”
“How about you propose to me again once we’ve killed the higher ups? I’ll consider it then.” Megumi challenged, laughing freely now that Satoru was back.
“You’re such a sadist, Gumi! Wanting to be proposed in front of dead bodies! I can’t believe I raised you like this!” Even his dramatics were back, Megumi couldn’t be more happier.
“I never said anything about in front of their corpses, Satoru. Plus, I’m like this because you raised me.”
Satoru let out the most scandalous sigh before breaking into a grin and kissing Megumi’s breath away.
“Do you have anything scheduled today, Toru?”
“I’m free for today, baby, let’s just hole ourselves in and forget everything?”
“Sounds like a plan.” Megumi replied back with a quick kiss making Satoru smile some more.
“Good, cause I don’t plan on letting you go today. I love you so much, Megumi. Marry me.”
“I love you more, Satoru. And, yes, but only when you’ve achieved your goal”
Satoru let out a silent hurray before breaking into another kiss and after today, if anyone heard Satoru call Megumi his wife, no one commented, these two were never as subtle as they thought they were anyways.
