Overworked

Summary:

Exploring Ijichi and Nanami's relationship. Ijichi is chronically ill. His symptoms and everything he experiences is based off my own experience. Does Nanami fall first?

This may be slow to update except when I'm hyperfixating on them (which is now). After that, who knows. I will update tags as I upload chapters.

Chapter 1: Late Night

Chapter Text

Ijichi tapped his foot, his eyes unblinking as he looked at the report on his computer. He was in pain, and not moving for hours on end didn't help. He moved his head side to side, trying to relieve his neck.

After a moment, he stood- well more like stumbled- up out of his chair and stretched. He put his face in his hands, feeling a migraine coming on. This can't be happening right now... he had work to do.

==

Nanami was about to drive home and just flop into bed when he noticed Ijichi's office light on. He hesitated for only a moment before pushing the door open, about to offer him a lift home.

What he saw made him stop in his tracks. Ijichi was stretching his arms above his head, not noticing his usually tidy shirt had become untucked. His slender torso still showed some muscles, soft yet still defined. His dark trail of hair down to his suit pants fit perfectly with the rest of him. It was a split second view, but still Nanami felt some sort of way.

He briefly shook his head. He did not have time to figure out what feelings they were.

==

Ijichi heard a cough, like someoje was clearing their throat, and his eyes flew open. Shit. Kento Nanami was standing at his door, looking ready to go to bed.

"Oh, Nanami, I'm sorry I didn't see you there."

He noticed his shirt untucked, and tried to smooth it out.

"It's completely fine. I was about to head home. Would you like a lift home?"

"Oh uh... I have to stay and finish..."

He realise how unkempt he looked. He couldn't form many full sentences anymore. The light was blinding. The migraine was getting worse by the minute. He covered his eyes with his hand, taking his glasses off.

"Ijichi, when did you last sleep in your own bed?"

It hurt to think. He doubted he could sleep now.

"I went home sometime Tuesday for a bit."

He heard Nanami sigh and his footsteps come toward him.

==

This man hadn't been home since Tuesday?! It was Friday! Nanami sighed and walked towards Ijichi's desk. In all honesty, he was walking at his legs' own accord.

He looked at what Ijichi was working on. A report that could easily be done tomorrow. Or the next day. Nanami glanced at Ijichi, realising the other man was in pain somehow. Did he get injured on his last mission?

Nanami saved the work and shut down the computer. He grabbed Ijichi's brown suit case and black suit jacket.

"Come on. Let's get you home."

"But I have to-"

"No. Ijichi, you are sleeping in your own bed tonight."

==

Ijichi sighed and put his glasses back on his face. Nanami wouldn't let up it seemed.

"My work?"

"Saved and computer is off."

"My-?"

"In my hands. All I need is you to walk with me to the car."

Ijichi's heart fluttered. It was a long time since anyone treated him this way. He didn't expect it from Nanami, of all people. Nanami's stern words prompted his feet to move toward the door and turn the light off.

"The lock-"

"I'm not incompetent, Ijichi. I know how to lock a door."

"I'm sorry-"

Great. Now he had gone and done it. Embarrassed himself. Of course he knew how to lock doors.

==

Somehow, Ijichi made it to the car and buckled himself in without Nanami's help. Surprised, Nanami placed the things in the back seat.

He got in his seat and buckled in, turning up the music. Some piano piece he didn't care to remember the name of at the minute.

==

Ijichi tried his hardest to focus all his energy in controlling his pain but the sounds of the piano were too loud. His head was thumping, which didnt help the pain everywhere else.

He groaned.

"Are you-"

"Yes. I'll be fine."

He groaned again, and the piano felt like a jet engine with how loud it was. He could take it no more. He slammed his hand on the volume dial and turned it all the way down.

He heard Nanami mutter softly. He had really done it now. He had probably lost a friend. All because of his migraine.

==

Nanami had walked with Ijichi up to his apartment. They were silent most of the drive home. Ijichi stumbled inside, seemingly forgetting Nanami existed.

Nanami looked around the apartment as he put Ijichi's things on the table. The apartment hardly looked lived in. Nanami thought he was clean, but Ijichi was on the next level.

The only mess was the one Ijichi was currently making. He had kicked his shoes off, and quickly unbuttoned his suit pants and shirt, stripping off like the clothes were restricting him. Nanami felt bad for staring, but under his suit, Ijichi was good looking. His biceps fit him perfectly. His back was nice. Even his leg hair looked good.

Nanami blinked. What was he thinking?! He had no time for anything like that.

He watched as Ijichi took two pills with a glass of water on his bed and pulled something out of his top drawer. A cap of some sort. It covered Ijichi's eyes and when he flopped on the bed, he sighed.

"I should get go-"

"I'm sorry, Nanami."

"For what?"

"The volume earlier."

Nanami was surprised.

"I mean if you don't like-"

"Too loud. Migraine."

Oh. Nanami felt bad that he couldn't recognise anything from the first.

"No, I'm sorry, Ijichi. I should have understood. I'll leave you to rest now. Do you need anything?"

"Hmm... the lights off. And uh... the door. Spare key is in the plant on the table."
