Immortality.
It turned out that when you have a lot of free time and a person of obsession, such feelings become so corrosive that it is impossible to sleep at night without that person walking around your mind.
Kaito does not consider himself an hypocrite. After being a phantom thief all those years, his moral compass is far away from the average person. He could observe him slightly smiling when the coffee arrives and its scent flows in that cozy restaurant that his detective goes every weekend.
Back to his questionable morality when it comes to collecting his "crush's" personal objects and taking pictures of Shinichi eating his favorite lemon pie, Kaito never tries to get any closer than that. It is not cowardice as many people might think, but a constant reminder that his detective is not an innocent person either. Is his behavior that bad when Shinichi stares at him back with that stupid but lovely expression that says "I know what you are doing"?
It feels like a challenge that he is going to willingly accept.
He does not know how much longer they are going to dance around each other until one of them decides to give up. Their compatibility turns into a lethal bullet whose unique target is either to destroy his critical thinking or his heart. No win-win.

Shinichi is not surprise to find a mess in Kaito’s room. He does not have to mention that the person inhabiting such room is not at home right now. He caresses the pillow that gives off a delicious scent of roses and chocolate. He wants to sink his face in it and stay for a whole eternity, which ironically he can if he wants to. The perks of having chemicals in his body that prevent him from aging, he guesses.
He walks around the room, observing and admiring. Only his rational side stops him from touching any object in the room, but that does not appease his burning desire of more.
