A Master in Gotham

Summary:

A year after Goetia's defeat, in a world where the Lostbelts never happened, Fujimaru Ritsuka narrowly avoids getting a sealing designation only to instead be forced to instead stay in the Clock Tower on probation, where the Mages Association can keep a close eye on him and force him to do their dirty work. Things suddenly ramp up when a surge of Magical Energy is detected near Gotham City, where the League of Assassins have gotten their hands on the remains of the Greater Grail. Seeing the threat, the Mages Association approach Ritsuka with a new mission: Reestablish Chaldea and use their might to seize the reformed Greater Grail.

A few weeks later, the Justice League begins to investigate the suspicious rise of a new "Hero" Organization known as Chaldea, while in Gotham City, Ritsuka becomes a student of Gotham Academy as his cover, joined by his "adopted sister" Jack the Ripper, who he hopes to let experience a normal childhood, along with a few other allies from Chaldea. At first, things seem to be going smoothly, and Jack even makes her first friend, a boy named Damian Wayne!

...Who also happens to be the heir to the aforementioned League of Assassins.

Well shit

Chapter 1: Unreturning Formation

Summary:

Ristuka stands trial at the Clock Tower

Chapter Text

If you were to ask Ritsuka Fujimaru what he thought he'd be doing after the Grand Order was over, he'd probably respond by saying something like "Going back home" or "Taking a vacation".

Instead what he got was an immediate notice to stand trial at the Mages Association with the potential sentence of a sealing designation, thanks to Marisbury's shady actions being brought to light after Chaldea's Grand Order combined with no one left to take the fall other than him. He couldn't even ask his servants for help with diplomacy, as most had been unsummoned after the Grand Order had finished, and the only 2 that remained (Mash and Da Vinci) couldn't defend him despite their best efforts, as their non-human nature made their words hold little value in a court full of bigots.

So now, here he was, surrounded by a dozen or so “esteemed” mages condemning him for saving the world under the excuse of violating association laws and having too much power. And by the looks of it, they had him cornered, as he had no one on his side and no way out.

At least until someone who looked suspiciously like Zhuge Liang spoke up.

"Rather than immediately killing and dissecting the boy for use as a catalyst, why not simply keep him here under the pretense of being a student at the Clock Tower, so we may more closely study him?"

"And how can we trust that he will be properly monitored? You may be the new Lord El Melloi II, Waver Velvet, but your word alone will not be enough to convince us" one of the mages countered

"Simple," the newly dubbed Waver replied, "we assign Tohsaka and Edelfelt as his wardens-"

"WHAT" shouted a blonde girl with drills who looked like Astraea and a carbon copy of Ishtar in tandem.

"...I trust they are fully capable," continued Waver Velvet, silencing the two with a swift glare, "to oversee and report on him during his time in captivity, and any issues may be reported directly to me"

The mages all huddled together in hushed tones and communed for a while before they separated and one spoke up

“This proposal of yours is… not entirely without its merits. We shall agree, but on one condition. Should the boy stay here under probation, he must also do missions for us. No reward. No support. No refusal. And you, Lord El Melloi II, must provide the funds.”

“...Very well. I agree to these terms. What do you say, Fujimaru?”

“Fujimaru?”

So basically, he was gonna be an overworked, unpaid intern with the entirety of the mages association watching his every move like hawks. No servants. No friends. And worst of all..

“I agree to these terms”

No choice.

Notes:

Hey, Author here!
Just a few clarifications I wanna make in these notes incase readers might get confused

-This takes place in a world where no Lostbelts, Ordeal Calls, or Epic of Remnant have happened, as stated in the summary, which of course means that Ritsuka has never met any of the LB servants. He does however recognize Astraea because Valentines and event timelines are weird and she can be summoned when still in the 7 singularities. Thus also later on, when he inevitably meets Shirou, he will not make the connection to Muramasa, because he never met him

-This world is a fusion of Apocrypha's timeline and UBW, where both grail wars happened. This does technically make no sense, but fuck it we ball (the idea of having incarnated Astolfo, Caules, and the UBW gang mentor Ritsuka all at once was too good to pass up)

-The Batman stuff won't be directly in any particular universe/storyline, but it draws the most inspiration from Wayne Family Adventures, so all the main cast there are going to be present (except for Batwoman, Bluebird, Azrael, Batwing, and Huntress)

-This first chapter takes place in 2016, which is still called 2016 (Human Incineration lasts from early 2015 until early 2016, with this time largely considered a "Lost" year but calendars not adjusting or reorganizing, merely listing it as "Lost")

-No I do not have a consistent upload schedule. This is my first fic and I'm just doing this for fun

-If I have to add any extra notes I'll edit them in post

Thanks for reading and see ya next time!

EDIT:

-Had to edit the summary and tags to cut out the Superman-Family in post because the cast was getting too bloated. They may still appear but no longer as part of the main focus. This is also because Jonathan Kent was originally in the cast because Nursery Rhyme was also planned to be with Jack in earlier drafts (thus having a Chaldea duo befriend the supersons duo), but as its now just Jack it doesn't flow as well and he feels more like dead weight, especially because Jack's dynamic with Damian was one of the main reasons they were here to begin with (both being child assassins), so Jon didn't really have a place left in the story. Sorry to disappoint if you were expecting him!
