Summary
Two years.
Buck had been carrying that alone for two years.
Tears started sliding down Buck's cheeks.
"I needed you in my life more than I needed to be loved by you, and I was ready to do that for the rest of our lives".
Eddie's eyes filled before he could stop them.
"Don't," he whispered.
"Don't ever tell me you would've settled for half a life with me."
Eddie felt something inside him crack. Realising how much Buck had held back, how much he'd endured to respect Eddie's boundaries, was almost impossible to comprehend. How could anyone have ever called Buck selfish? He was the most selfless person Eddie had ever known. As always, Buck had quietly carried the pain on his own, making sure Eddie never had to. For years, Buck had loved him quietly, asking for nothing in return. He had swallowed his heartbreak, hidden his fears, and accepted the possibility of never being loved back, simply because having Eddie in his life mattered more than having him entirely.
His voice broke.
"You deserve all of me."
He closed the distance between them and kissed him, cupping his cheeks in his hands.
Buck kissed him back, holding onto him, and tears streamed down his face, overwhelmed with emotions.
