You're home

Summary:

It had been 3 days since Leon had left to go on his mission, it was only supposed to be a day or so, look for leads, keep a close eye on major suspects involved in the t-virus case, yet he hadn't been home in days. You were calling anyone you could think of to get answers, the D.S.O, Chris, and finally you got an answer, he was coming home, and this time a lot healthier than before.

Notes:

"I will" by mitski was on repeat as I wrote this ♡

Work Text:

The night had been a long and rainy one, the kind that makes you feel like it's lasted for days. It's been 3 days since Leon's been gone. Chris told you after you called repeatedly that things went well on your husband's mission and that he was already on his way home, but you weren't so sure.

You were overjoyed that he'd been healed from that horrible virus, But you still couldn't help but feel anxious. You just wanted him to be home already...

You'd told him not to leave. Not in that condition but he couldn't stay. duty called, even despite his condition. You put on a brave face for him, tried to be the one thing in his life that was stable, that wouldn't look away, that wouldn't leave. But it was hard not to worry for him, you loved him, how could you not?

But you knew he'd do anything to come back home, and somehow that made it easier to watch him go.

You were cleaning the house, dusting and whipping down every surface and doing the little laundry that was left. It was a habit, a little something you did when your husband was away, it helped keep you grounded, helped you get your mind off him. But the subtle scent of his cologne on his clothes made your mind wander back to him no matter how hard you tried.

You wanted him to be there, wanted to see him and hug him as tightly as you could, yet it had been hours since the mission was done and still he wasn't here. Your imagination did nothing to help your worry, thoughts of all that could go wrong filling it completely.

you wondered if that crazed doctor was really dead, if he'd somehow managed to survive and was haunting your husband at this moment, yet you calmed yourself, you had to trust him, he was stronger than that, you knew that. You just had to trust him. As you folded the last piece of laundry finally you heard a gentle sound come from the door,

Knock, knock, knock...

You immediately stood up and ran to the door, it was him. He was here, he was actually here. You quickly opened the door, unlocking it quickly and finally you were greeted with your all too tired husband.

"Hey." He said simply, his smile now reaching his eyes, something it hadn't done in awhile.

"You're back..." The sound of your voice made his eyes soften, "looks like someone missed me." He said as he walked in, closing the door behind him, and before he could even take off his coat you hugged him tightly, not caring about the rain droplets that still coated him now transferring to you.

you breathed in his scent, that familiar scent. "more than anything..." You said as you pressed your cheek against his chest, you couldn't stop smiling even if you tried to, relief filling you completely, your mind finally at ease. Slowly he hugged you back, burying his face in your hair, "I missed you too..."

Those words made your heart leap. Of course he missed you, he always did, but hearing him say it always felt like the first time, that's when you realized something important...
You pulled away suddenly, looking at him with concern,

"Wait, are you hurt? You're healed right? How's your injuries?" You asked as you quickly checked his neck and chest, anywhere you could look for injuries or bandages, searching for any and all wounds he'd definitely hide from you.

he sighed, rolling his eyes before gently taking your hands in his much larger ones, grounding you, "sweetie I'm fine. Never felt better, honest." That made you pause, you finally looked at him, really looked, and it seemed he was right, his eyes looked less tired than usual, still worn but almost less heavy, he looked lighter, almost younger. And that's when you noticed his hand, healed, with his ring back in the place it had always been.

You took a deep breath, and smiled softly, he put it back on immediately didn't he? You met his gaze once again, your expression sincere,
"Okay. Okay, it's just... hard not to be worried, I know you can handle yourself, you always have. But I just…” you trailed off, looking away from him, you felt anxiety fill your stomach once again, “...I just want you to be safe. I'm sorry if I can be... overbearing at times but I can't help it, I just want you to come back to me. To be safe, I just love you too much."

Hearing that made him relax, a tired smile pulling at his lips. He knew that was true, that all you wanted was the best for him but he also knew you worried too much, especially considering his record on these things. He wrapped his arms around your shoulders, pulling you close again into a tight embrace,

"Well I'm here aren't I? You can stop worrying now. Especially because I've been waiting to see that pretty smile all these days." He teased, you were about to protest when his lips suddenly met yours,
Your eyes widened at first but quickly closed as you melted into the kiss,
He always knew just what to do to get your heart racing, and the way he held you didn't help.

Once he pulled away your eyes met for a second until you looked away, unable to even look at him with that expression on his face.

"You're gonna kill me someday..." you said timidly, he chuckled, “wouldn't be a bad way to go out would it?” he said with a smirk before picking you up bridal style. You held him tighter, wrapping your arms around his shoulders, not wanting to fall, he looked down at you lovingly, he then kissed your forehead softly.

"Leon..." You said quietly, "yes, sweetheart?" He said in that low tone that always made your heart race, “I mean it, I really do love you so much.” You looked deeply into his eyes, leaving no room for doubt. He just smiled in return, “I know, honey.”

Finally you both reached your bedroom, the bed was made, all the lights were off except for the bed side lamp leaving most of the room in shadow. He slowly approached the bed and gently set you down onto it, you looked up at him as he did and he looked back with such a look of love that it made your heart skip a beat.

"Leon..." you said as you stared back, unsure of what he was going to do. He hushed you before leaning over, his arms crowding you in on both sides.

his face was mere inches from yours now, his breath ghosting on your lips. You closed your eyes in anticipation, slowly you felt that familiar feeling of stubble against your jaw, your breath stilled as your heart raced, then his lips were on yours, gentle at first, then with more purpose and vigor, something you hadn't felt from him in awhile. He kissed you over and over again paying special attention to your lower lip, his familiar taste making your head spin.

Eventually he pulled away, leaving you breathless. You both looked at each other for a moment, still trying to catch your breaths, then he smiled, "believe that I'm better now...?" He asked in a low tone, you blushed, looking away "yeah..." he nodded, seeming very satisfied with himself. He sat next to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder, pulling you close.

"I love you." He said quietly, resting his head on top of yours, you leaned into him, almost nuzzling into his neck, "I love you too. More than you know." He laughed at that, "hey, I'm the one supposed to be doing the sweet talking here, can't just one up me like that." he said as he squeezed you tighter, almost making you laugh in return.

“I'll allow it this once..." he said before kissing the top of your head, you smiled, how had you ended up with such a sweet husband? It blew your mind that even though he'd just come back from a nightmare of a mission he still made the time to be with you.

"So... how did your mission go? Do you want to talk about it?" You heard from Sherry that he'd returned to racoon city, you knew it was a sore memory. He'd told you the story so long ago and when he did you could almost feel the weight of guilt in his words. It made you sad to know you couldn't take that pain away no matter how hard you tried, but listening seemed to help him the most, so that's just what you'd do.

He sighed, pulling away slightly, you immediately felt guilty, feeling like you'd just ruined the moment but you knew it was better to talk then to avoid it.

"It was... hell. I really don't have another way to describe it." He explained the gritty details, how he had to save this girl named Grace, having to kill another mad scientist trying to kill him, elpis, the virus that turned out to be an antiviral, and returning to raccoon city.

He went quiet when he mentioned that part, the look on his face was torn, he said it was hard but probably good to go back, get some closure or something like that, but you knew better, it just opened old wounds. You held his arm tighter, trying to ground him, he rubbed the top of your hand with his free one, but his eyes didn't meet yours.

You looked at him with concern, you knew how he got when it came to this, you knew he still had survivor's guilt even when he told you he was fine you knew that wasn't the case. "Leon... I know this is hard but, I want you to know that I'm always here if you want to talk about it, it doesn't bother me to listen you know." You tried to reassure him, he looked at you, finally meeting your eyes this time, you could see the pain in them, the kind that's been there for ages, the kind that'll always be there. He gave you a gentle smile, it seemed forced, clearly just his attempt to make you feel better. Which made you feel even more concerned.

"Thanks and I know sweetheart. I just don't want you to worry about me." You looked at him with a sad expression, he noticed, sighing before he patted your head. "but if it'll ease that worried little head of yours, I'll try to open up more, just not tonight. All that stuff is the last thing I want to think about right now." He wrapped both arms around you, pulling you so close he almost lifted you onto his lap, once again making your cheeks flush. He buried his face into your neck, taking a deep breath, "right now all I need is you, your company, your voice, your scent. That's enough for me." You sighed, finally relenting. You hugged him back, squeezing him tight.

"Alright, whatever you need I'm here to give. Always." He pulled away slightly, just to look at you, he smiled, looking at you with those beautiful dusty blue eyes. Then he leaned in once again and gave you a small peck on the lips before pulling away, once he did you pouted, clearly disappointed. He laughed, "Jeez, your insatiable sweetheart." You rolled your eyes, "oh hush, how can I not be, I mean look at you! You're even hotter than the last time I saw you, and here I thought that was impossible." You teased.

His eyes widened for a moment, actually looking flustered for once. It was a rare sight for sure, usually it was him who was making you blush but now it seemed the tables had turned, he tried to hide it though but you saw that look. "Don't be ridiculous, I'm tired and look like I just fought in a war. But if that's what you're into.." he teased, you smacked his shoulder, making him laugh, "nah, what's ridiculous is i still haven't kissed every inch of your face since you've come back, and I'm looking to fix that" you said with a smirk before pulling him down by his collar, kissing his whole face, starting from his cheeks then his nose, jaw and then on his lips. "I love you." You whispered, looking at him with awe He chuckled, shaking his head as he spoke, “look who's the charmer now” he kissed your forehead before getting up and heading to the bathroom

"taking a shower. see ya in a bit." You smiled to yourself, getting up you decided to get ready for bed as well.

After not too long he finally emerged from the bathroom, however you were too busy reading to notice, however your focus was quickly taken away from it when you saw him at the corner of your eye, he was wearing that black muscle shirt he always wore when he was home along with his gray sweatpants, even though you always thought he looked good in his work attire you had to admit you equally loved his casual wear, or maybe you just thought anything your husband wore was hot. yeah definitely that.

He was drying his hair when he caught your gaze, "and here I thought you said your focus never left your books once you started reading." You looked down, feeling a little embarrassed, "well clearly there are exceptions..." you scooted over onto your side of the bed, giving him room, he sat on the corner, still drying his hair, he smelled so good all you wanted to do was lay in his arms already.

You put your book on the night stand, already knowing you weren't going to finish it tonight. then laid on your side facing him and waited for him to lay down as well, after not too long he did, laying down next to you before wrapping his arm around your torso, pulling you close.

You laid your head on his chest and exhaled softly, you always felt the most comfortable when you slept like this. "Clingy tonight." He said quietly, he always liked to tease you about that but he was no different. Couldn't keep his hands off you if he tried. "Could say the same about you. But I'm not complaining" you said as you cuddled up next to him more, wrapping an arm around his waist, after waiting for him night after night you finally had him all to yourself. You felt something brush against the top of your head, then felt a gentle kiss, "sleep well my love." You smiled, "now that you're here, of course."

You both fell into a deep sleep in each other's arms, all the horrors of the days before drifting away like a long forgotten nightmare.
